The room and bathroom was comfortable and very clean. The host made us a wonderful dinner and recommended a cocnac producer we visited the next day. The garden looks beautiful and we would like to come back next summer.

We've stopped at Maison Schuler for one night on our way to Spain and enjoyed it tremendously. The house is on top of a hill, surrounded by sunflower fields and nature. The house has character and so does the owner, a quiet, taciturn 80+ man, who is not the social type you would expect to encounter in the hospitality business, which might rub some people the wrong way as proven by other reviews, but a very interesting person if you take the time. He speaks English and some German, and understands little French. We liked that the room was very clean and nice and we had the best sleep in a long time. Breakfast was simple and German style: croissants, bread, marmelade, cake, cheese, fruits, muesli, yogurt, coffee and juice. The owner prepares and serves himself which makes it clear this is a way of life, not a business. All in all, very recommended.

We are driving around France. In the morning we looked for a place to stay and called Maison Schuler direct as we have a dog and sometimes you get a better rate. My daughter is fluent in French called the owner and clearly stated its for me my mother and we have a dog. Also the price quoted was 65 euros per night. So we booked. Although the owner did struggle with the French and we had to repeat a few times. We finished booking in English. After a 3.5 hour drive we arrived and parked in the drive. As we got out there was a very angry looking owner on the step...... all other places we stay we are welcomed with a smile. NOT HERE!. Then he said we hadn't told him about the dog......um, YES we did and then he announced a 15 euro cleaning charge and when we confirmed the room rate at 65 he said NO its 75.....odd since we both heard Soixante cinq in French so it would have been 25 euros more than quoted on phone. I refused this since it is not what was agreed and I was more than a little angry at the attitude and hostility from this owner. This place is miles outside of Saintes and I suggest he improves his customer service skills.

Maison Schuler, a Chambre d'hôte in the little village of Berneuil is a real gem. The B&B is a beautiful renovated Manor in the country site of the Champagne region, not far from the A10 interstate, north of Bordeaux and therefore an ideal overnight stop. The bedrooms and bathrooms are excellent, while the bedrooms are tastefully decorated. For the guests, there is a cosy living room, filled with leather chairs. The separate dining room also radiates a warm ambiance. The owner, Mr. Manfred Schuler runs his Chamber d'hôte and while we stayed there he himself prepared an excellent diner and breakfast for us. With a spacious garden, which can be used by guests and the quiet rural surroundings, Maison Schuler is a place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the French countryside. That is what we did after a long and tiring drive from Spain.

A charming guest house in the middle of Acquitaine farming country, but just off the A10. Chosen by us because we travel with our dog. Great place to walk with the dog after a day in the car, quiet rural location, lovely traditional French farmhouse. We had a lovely dinner served by our host Josef and our room was well appointed and comfortable. All rounded off with a delightful simple breakfast consisting of quality and home made ingredients. Overall lovely hospitality from Josef and Susan.
