We stayed here for 3 nights mainly to go surfing. Selina Maderas is a bit remote, but can be reached with a car (standard economy) through hacia Marsella y Maderas. Because it was off-road, it did take us a bit longer than the navigation predicted (x1.5). You can also reach it from san juan, but a higher vehicle is likely required to cross the 20cm deep water. The hostel is very nice and well maintained. Unfortunately, we did noy have a constant temperature shower. It was either very hot or turned cold often. (p.s. left is hot). When we were there, there were not many people. We took surfing lessons for 35 and 30 dollar per lesson. For the first lesson we took all day to practise (and chill) in the pool and later at playa Maderas. The surf instructor Simon did a great job at explaining the basics. He was very enthusiastic and really precise on the technique. In the sea everyone practiced mostly by themselves, with Simon there to look after us and give some tips.

Great facilities and friendly staff (Paul, Ramon, Orlando, Camilo Owner and the friendly girls at the recpetion)! We loved the pool and the hamac area by the hill. Loved the fact that it's a bit further from San Juan, only 7 minutes from Maderas beach and perfect location to chill and recharge your batteries. Few downsides: -The music : playlist and sound level. It seems like the playlist is not aligned with guests' mood (Very loud music playing when there are few people by the pool and heavy sound from early morning (7am) to late evening (midnight). -The limited restaurant menu: knowing your a bit far from San Juan it would be appreciated if the restaurant could offer a wider variety of dishes. Overall fun stay and great staff!

This summer, I stayed at Selina for a month to learn how to surf. It was a wonderful experience: Positives: Selina Maderas: A+. The place itself is very clean. The pool is always clean, and there is a pool table as well. Also, the shared kitchen is very clean and it is very easy to prepare meals. The community is super friendly and it’s very easy to find people to socialize with. Wifi: A+. I am currently getting my masters online and needed great internet throughout the trip. That was never an issue. Kitchen: A++ the food is very good, fairly priced, and the service at the restaurant is wonderful the staff is very helpful and friendly. The room: A+. My room was perfect. Very clean and had functioning air conditioning. There was a cleaning service provided nearly every day. It was great. The surf camp: A+. Simon (head surf instructor) and his team are wonderful instructors. I had Timo and he was great. The instructors take you to different beaches in order to insure that the waves are on your level in order to stay safe. The instructors stress the importance of safety and give you proper equipment (correct size board) to make sure you catch as many waves as possible. negatives: Transportation: C+. This Selina is located about a quarter mile from the beach. The walk requires going up a rocky dirt road that can be slippery, specifically during rainy season. On my first day of the camp, the shuttle left without me and the instructor. We walked down to the beach with a rather large and heavy board in our hands. Being that I was the only student in camp that day, that seemed like something pretty basic to mess up. I walked to the beach several days out of my five day camp. That part was frustrating. I also spoke with several other people at the camp who seemed to have similar problems with shuttles showing up on time and leaving without them. Overall: A+. It was a great experience and I learned how to surf with the help of Selina’s instructors, who continued to give me advice after I was done with the camp. I highly recommend staying here.
