LA CLOSERIE DE L’EPAN The house is part of a small group of ancient-looking houses in a very quiet area on the outskirts of Tours, the main city in the area and historic capital of the Loire Valley, recently classified by the UNESCO. The city was beautifully restored and offers a lot of places of interest not to mention all styles of very good restaurants. It has a renowned symphonic orchestra and lots of concerts are performed all year round. Many cultural events are offered for tourists in summer too. - This area is central for visiting royal castles, abbeys and villages that make up the core of French history. - A program for cycling tourists is being developed along the Loire river. - A nearby lake, within walking distance of our house, has a boating school and children games and will offer good opportunities for jogging. - As this is a wine-growing area, various wine cellars can be visited and wine tasted.

We stayed here for 1 night en route back to England. Unfortunately we arrived late and had to go straight back out in the car to eat! With hindsight it would have been better to have eaten a big lunch & have then brought snack food to stay in at night and appreciate the wonderful accommodation! Gorgeous old buildings which have been very sympatheticlly restored, stuffed full of beautiful and artistic things to admire. John Pierre and Helène are lovely hosts and we really enjoyed their home-made breakfast. We plan on returning at some point to do a tour of the Loire and when we do we will definietly stay here again, for longer next time!

Jean-Pierre and Helene have impeccable taste in home design and decor! The restored winery out-buildings are warm, comfortable and welcoming. Although we had only rented a single room (ensuite) they surprised us by inviting us to use the large lounge room and kitchen that adjoins the apartment. As if that wasn't enough, they let use the washer/dryer and drove me to into Tours to catch my train;-)) We had a cozy patio with table outside our room which was great for relaxing. The breakfast was delightful as well as they served in their own kitchen in their historical house overlooking the yard. The continental breakfast included wonderful homebaked breads/jams and goodies from the farmers market. The location is easily accessible from major roads outside Tours and enroute to chateaux routes. I recommend staying as long as possible:-)

This is not an hotel but consists of 2 self contained units ( One with kitchen ). My wife & myself had 3 nights in the unit which consists of a bedroom / bathroom and outside terrace with table & chairs. Breakfast is either taken in the main house or on the patio. To get into Tours is only 10 mins by car and ideal location for chateaux visiting.

We arrived late in the evening to be greeted by Helene and Jean-Pierre and were shown to our over night accommodation which was the most unique chalet we have ever had the pleasure to enjoy, the "Chambre aux Masques" has a display of masks and other historic artefacts and is beautifully decorated. As far as the bed linen and towels are concerned, they are top quality and the cleanliness is breath taking, there was not a speck of dust on any of the shelves tables and floors and it was perfectly quiet, ideal for a good nights sleep. Breakfast in the main house was great, homemade preserves, bread and yogurt, all served in their wonderful home environment by Helene and Jean-Pierre. In conversation it was mentioned that over the years not many British visitors have stayed with them, I can only say that they are missing a treasure of a place and with the warm welcome from the owners it would be hard to better anywhere at any price!
