The place is far from airport. There is a limited strength air conditioning unit, two in our cottage. Cottages are ok in aesthetic and comfort. Security guys were very friendly. Beach is just right there.

We rented a residence for a week - nice resort, well maintained grounds and pools. The private beach is unfortunately of no use since it is full of seaweeds and sargassum. Very beautiful area but very secluded and quiet. The condo we rented was nice and roomy. Unfortunately we underestimated the amount of driving implied in staying that far out on the island ! There are no services offered on site, the nearest grocery store is a 40 minutes drive on mostly bad maintained roads. The on site restaurant Rokuni is quite expensive and only offer lunch / dinner - it was closed for most of our stay. English harbour is the nearest town ( a 30 -35 minutes drive) and offered limited dining experience during the summer months. Driving to St-John is a 40-45 minutes drive, Jolly Harbour was a 55 minutes drive. Since we wanted to enjoy the beach, we had to drive at least 1h30 to 2h a day to visit other areas. The nearest beaches, Half moon bay (15 minutes drive) and Long Beach (30 minutes) were very disappointing - on the Atlantic side with a lot of wind and waves, you have to rent some chairs with limited lunch options near the beach. We ended up driving most of the days to Ffreys beach and Jolly beach, leaving early in the morning. The sun set around 6:45, so if you want to get diner in the nearest town you have to drive back at night on bumpy roads without any road lights - can be a challenge for some !

Just returned from 10 day trip and cannot speak highly enough of Escape at Nonsuch bay. We had a garden room view apartment which was beautiful and to be honest don't see the need to pay the extra for a bay view. The food was outstanding. Always a good variety of choices for Breakfast lunch and dinner. Never felt the need for bar snacks, which are only available between 3.30 and 5pm as the food was plentiful but never felt too much. A small pool adjacent to the bar/restaurant where longer we're available. This meant it never felt crowded and provided the opportunity to chat and get to know fellow guests. All staff with the exception of one particularly surly waitress were extremely helpful and attentive. Witnesses and servers were polite and attentive. Reception staff were excellent and a big shout out to KC and Leston, the mixologist (Leston is the main beach barman) for the amazing cocktails, never letting a glass go dry and keeping the Zombies and Painkillers flowing. The beach which is a 10 min walk maximum is man-made but constantly cleaned and looked after. It is up and then down a particularly steep hill but a shuttle is available, up to 5pm when beach bar closes if the walk is too much but we only felt the need to use it once after a long day at the beach bar! Entertainment was laid on at night which a live band or singer which was mostly laid back jazz etc. This is a quiet getaway to relax and reconnect and it is as far southwest you can go so if you are looking for lively and siteseeing without a car this is not the place for you. Everyone we met was lovely and we some lovely new friends. The only issue is the mosquitoes. Take a good repellant as it is built at treetop level All in all we would highly recommend are are already looking at rebooking

So myself and my best friend arrived. We are both what used to be called aspergers. Asd. The staff were nice but apparently we are not allowed to be ourselves for fear of upsetting other guests by listening to the radio or in our conversations, swearing is a no. Don’t bring your Bluetooth speaker or your own view on the world. You’ll be ostracised by 8pm. Avoid like the plague if you aren’t rich white people with no soul. Also; don’t be invisibly disabled. It’s not welcome with these rich idiots. This hotel is one I’m happy to lose my nightly fee for the next week because of how they have treated us. Don’t stay here unless you’re a posh yacht person with slip on shoes and red trousers.

Where do I begin? Overall, the girl’s trip to Antigua was wonderful, but staying at Non Such Bay was a bit disappointing. I had my reservations about the resort based on the reviews, but the group voted to stay there based on accommodations (i.e., condo style vs hotel). Many of the reviews indicated the location was remote and a car was recommended. So we rented cars to get there and to get around. After arriving in Antigua and picking up our cars we stopped at the grocery store to pick up groceries since we would be staying on the Residence side, and we were told the residential side had limited services. By the time we headed to the resort it was dark. The resort was 45 minutes from the airport. Oh my goodness! The drive to the resort was harrowing for me. There were limited stop lights, no lines to divide the road. You have to drive on the left side of the street and the steering wheels are on the right side. At some point during the drive a donkey crossed in front us. It was the scariest drive ever! We finally arrive at the resort. There is no lobby to check in and get keys, etc. The security personnel provided verbal directions to our units. Our unit doors were unlocked with the keys inside. There is no directory to use to contact resort personnel. We called the main resort number and was able to reach the security team. The bedrooms have air conditioning, but the living room does not. I stayed in the 2-bedroom 2-bathroom beach cottage and it was cute and located on the beach. But it was missing items like a can opener, limited plates, the oven didn’t work. The unit was very spacious, but it was old and could use an upgrade. The beach is small more like a small lagoon. Being so far away from everything and knowing we would have to drive those narrow roads probably at night to get back to the resort discouraged us from venturing out more. We eventually decided to hire a driver to take us around just to avoid driving the roads at night. Fortunately, the Rokuni restaurant located on the Non Such Bay Residential property side opened in November, so we were able dine there. It’s a very nice restaurant. The restaurant includes an infinity pool with a lounge section for casual dining. The resort has a tiny gift store. As the week progressed, we learned it was the gift store/office. We didn’t hear from the resort the entire time unless we reached out to them but closer to check out, we received calls reminding us to stop by the gift store/office and pay the Antigua levy tax before checking out. This levy was implemented in October. We booked our rooms in April and it would have nice if the resort had sent us an email informing us about levy charge. The security safe in the room malfunctioned twice. Both times the security personnel figured out a way to open the safe, but it was unsettling not knowing if they would be able to open the safe. The last night the bathroom flooded. We walked into our unit and water was everywhere. It flooded around 1am and we knew there was no one other than security to help us. We threw down towels and tried to clean up the mess. Luckily, my friend left a day early and we able to use her bathroom. There is limited internet service on resort and the TVs don’t work. So, if you’re planning a trip there have your books and music ready. The resort esthetics (i.e., the property) are beautiful but the service is virtually nonexistent. If you’re planning to stay on the residential side just know that you’re on your own. Be sure to have your groceries, your books, your music, and rental car to get around if you dare. Oh Covid testing. There’s no official on site Covid testing. After making a few phone calls we were given the number to a Doctor Black. He sent his assistant to our unit to do the rapid test. He charged $100 per test. I definitely plan to visit Antigua again, but I will stay in town at a resort with a few more amenities.

I understand the review title and stars are rather low, however I would like to start with the positives. We were staying at the residences of Nonsuch Bay resort, a spacious villa with kitchen, lovely bed and balcony. There is a nice beach with a small bar and a couple of swimming pools. The problem is the location and the customer service. We arrived at about 7.30pm and the reception for the self catering residences was already closed. We had to rely upon the security to show us our room, at which point we found that our room had been taken by another couple and we had to wait half an hour on the street for the security to argue amongst themselves as to what they would do with us. When we finally got in, we asked for takeaway from the restaurant, which we had been told via email would be possible, and they wouldn’t let us order any. As the restaraunt was on ‘the escape’ all inclusive area we weren’t allowed to use their restaraunt at all. In fact if you are staying at the residences, you are treated like a Second class citizen in comaparison. The only restaraunt on the resort of the residences opened at the end of our stay and was booked up for a week. They aren’t associated with the hotel in any way so no preference is given to you if you’re staying here. We were lucky to have a car to get to the otherside of the island where there is more restaraunts etc. But this did mean I had to be sober the majority of the time in order to drive. Taxis here are very expensive. If I were to come again to Antigua, I would likely book in English harbour area to properly enjoy the island.

The owners of this property knew it was run down before we arrived. They didn’t check on their villa for years. The owner was there before we were and knew it needed repairs and new appliances, furniture and a new roof. Instead of letting us know and offering us a chance to find different accommodations, he let us come to a disgraceful unit. The roof leaked and someone twisted their ankle. The appliances were old and filthy. The kitchen cabinets were falling apart. The bbq was so disgusting we tried to clean it and couldn’t so we had to bbq with tin foil on the grill just to cook our food. There is not enough furniture in the unit for the amount of people for dining together. People have to sit in different areas. The “dining table” is patio furniture. The pool is not well maintained and the beautiful garden in the description does not exist. The patio stones that are there are full of mold or broken. The few stones they have are all uneven. There is junk/ broken clay pots and cut down weeds left all over the prickly grass. The patio doors to the one bedroom do not close properly and blow open. The railing, electrical outlets and deck boards are all unsafe. The unit is not close to the resort amenities. It is a 15-20 min. walk up 2 very steep hills to get to any of the pools or the beach. The pools are small and only have a dozen lounge chairs. The supermarket that we were told was close to our unit is a little hotel convenience store with bread, milk and snacks. The grocery store is at least a $50 u.s taxi ride. The only complimentary amenity at the beach is a lounge chair. So you have to lug everything you need up the 2 steep hills with you. There are no windows in the unit with glass. They are just window openings covered with screens. When the resort has the fog truck come around it comes in and covers the entire unit. Then you need to wipe things down to get the film off of everything. Don't leave any food out on the counter otherwise that will be covered from the fog too. You also need bug spray for the kitchen. There are little bugs all over the counters. Make sure all your food is properly sealed or in the fridge/freezer. The garbage bins are directly across from the unit so watch out for the rodents when you take out your garbage. The owner agreed to a partial refund if pictures is the villa were not posted. Still waiting for a refund so I am now posting the review and pictures. When they say the place has been renovated don’t believe them. They will show you pictures of a different villa than the one you will end up in.

Response from Ian Fraser, Owner at Residences At Nonsuch Bay Antigua

Beachbums74, Thanks for your comments. We are sorry you had a poor experience at Coconut House. Unfortunately the rental of this villa has nothing to do with NonSuch Bay Resort. The owner makes all arrangements to manage, rent and maintain his Villa himself. We regret that you feel you need to post on the NonSuch Bay Resort Trip Advisor site when your experience was totally out of the control of the Resort. Posting this review is unlikely to cause the Owner of the Villa that you rented to refund you as he has no interest in NonSuch Bay Resort. Sincerely,

Skeleton staff, remote location, charged for everything including room service (5$) you don’t have a choice as there is never room in the only restaurant of the adjoining hotel. The food is mediocre and is very pricey, but it’s the only option for dinner unless you rent a car or hire a taxi to go to the nearest restaurant which is 30 mins away. No breakfast option at all and lunch is a choice of 3 paninis at the pool bar (18$) There is always a smell of sulphur in the air ( what is that about?), only YouTube and your own Netflix available and that’s always buffering as Internet is sketchy, can’t use your iPad and phone at the same time, the accommodation is dated and in dire need of a refurbishment. Everyone is out to milk the situation including the Doctor for the COVID return test (75$) charges for the test and for the call out (38$) all his clients are call out!! There is no ATM around so arm yourself with cash to pay for taxi, massage, Tours and of course the doctor. Very disappointed, only positive is the staff, that are smiling and try to be helpful, when you can get hold of one, as no one answers the phone before 10 am and after 4.30pm, don’t even try to get someone on the weekends. Would really avoid if at all possible, unfortunate as it could be a nice place under the right management.

The residences are spacious, very comfortable and well equipped. We had a lovely view of the sea and many palm trees from our veranda. The bed was huge and very comfortable, with air conditioning in the bedroom, the jacuzzi bath was wonderful. Fortunately we had hired a car which we picked up at the airport as the restaurant and bar was closed at the resort when we arrived due to it being low season. Nonsuch Bay is situated out of the way so taxi's or hiring a car is a must, the best beaches are situated along the south and west of the island so we went out to explore everyday. The pools at Nonsuch Bay were lovely and warm, the beach is clean and well looked after but the sea wasn't great for swimming in. During the second half of our stay they did open a bar where the infinity pool is, it was only open until 4:30pm and most days we got back in after that time. One panini and one veggie wrap cost us $50 US dollars when you included the tax and two cocktails cost $40 US dollars so we didn't use the pool bar much. due to it being pricey. We were given the days when we would get our room cleaned and linen changed, unfortunately we got missed for our second clean but they did come and bring us some clean towels when we informed them of this. The tree frogs made a lot of noise at night so if you are a light sleeper it might be worthwhile bringing some earplugs All the staff we came across were very friendly and we liked this resort a lot as we were pretty much left to ourselves, however we found having a car was essential. Much sure you download Antigua on google maps as road signs are non existent but as the island is relatively small you soon learn your way around with landmarks, just mind the potholes!!

We stayed in the Beach Cottages which are old and dated. No doubt COVID has impacted the management's ability to upgrade its facilities. Tourism is the #1 business of Antigua and the island was closed for most of last year. Our compressor in our room went out and so we moved the mattress to the living room to sleep under the fan. It was repaired the following day. The staff are amazing, especially Andre who serves as concierge and seemingly several other roles. He noticed we had lost a hub cap on our rental car and instructed us where to go on the island to replace it to avoid high replacement fees at the car rental counter. At $450/night one would expect a bit more luxury. Also, if you don't get the all inclusive package, do not eat onsite! We paid $75 USD for club soda, 6 wings ($36 USD), pasta and french fries! Needless to say we did not eat there again:-)
