Our family of four (children 18 and 15) just returned from a week's stay at Hotel Luna Azul and we cannot say enough about this treasure in the jungle. This was our first trip to Costa Rica, but definitely not our last. While we had considered splitting up the week among two or

As other places in Guanacaste become busier and noisier, Luna Azul maintains its natural, private, oasis feel. The owners and staff are very professional, and equally friendly and kind. They supported us with information about the area, fine dining that accommodated our dietary

My family and I had the great pleasure of staying at Hotel Luna Azul on our 2nd trip to Costa Rica. I can say -- without any reservation -- that we would stay here again anytime we are in the area. The hotel and the rooms were outstanding, and we enjoyed every meal we ate at

We recently stayed for 5 nights at Hotel Luna Azul and loved every minute of it. We were there with our 2 boys (ages 10 and 6) and felt incredibly welcome and cared for. Since the hotel is small - I thought I might feel self conscious there with 2 kids - but we didn't feel out

We booked Hotel Luna Azul on the basis of being close to Ostional and turtle paradise. But there is SO much more to appreciate and enjoy by staying here. We arrived a little earlier than check in time but it was no problem and we were quickly settled into our room. Rolf gave

When is the arribada?
The arribadas are always in the middle, between Full Moon and New Moon, around the last quarter moon and Lasts about 5 days. So you can get a moon calendar and find the dates. Turtles arrive in the incoming high tide, mostly in the middle of the high tide. But when there are big arribadas, they arrive day and night.

It is hard to say if you will see the turtles...they are unpredictable. Are you staying at Luna Azul because if you are, I would email them....they were super helpful and very tapped into the turtles coming and going. There is also a web-site that you could find that has the moon cycles that talks about the turtles...just google Olive Ridley Turtle Aribida Cycles....or something to that affect. Tamarindo is about an hour drive but it is excellent for surfing...a nice drive.

As far as I remember there were just a few rooms with "some" ocean view. Contact the owners, they are quite helpful accommodating guest request. Regarding the beach access: There is none. the closest beach is like 10 minutes by car or over 30 minutes of hard (uneven, hilly) walking. Most people go to the turtle beach, but close by (even closer) there is a small beach with some fishers that for a few $ will take you around (better than the 'organize' tourist boat trip and way cheaper).
