My brother and my friend just returned from Nicaragua in March and stayed here. Casa La Barra was amazing the property was beautfiul with plenty of lounging spots with chairs or couches to watch the waves or enjoy a nice tona. The employees were top notch super friendly and always keeping the place and rooms spotless for the guests, the A/C also worked extremely well we would actually get too cold some nights haha. Food was beyond delicious and always fresh and healthy. The bar is always open with plenty of affordable non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks! The surf was unbelieveable and the guides will take you wherever you want to go whenever and know all the best conditions for each break. Also the board selection was great with so many different boards you can swap in or swap out any day. When you're not surfing you can also go fishing, volcano boarding, play pool or ping-pong or take dip in the refreshing pool! We had a blast and we all would definitely recommend this place to anyone. We stayed for 9 days and all the other guests we met were great and fun people to hang with too! Would definitely go back!

I had never been to Nicaragua before nor have I ever stayed at a place called a surf resort! Casa La Barra exceeded my expectations! Dave, the owner checked in often to see if we had everything we needed for travel.I traveled with my husband ( does not surf) my adult son and his fellow watermen surf buds! We were greeted by their awesome staff at the airport who couldn’t have been nicer. The resort is located above the beach with the most incredible views I have ever seen. The rooms were spotless, comfy and had A/C. Hammocks, lounges, deckchairs, ping pong, outside showers and a beautiful pool all for the taking. The staff… the best! They always checked to see if the could help us with a cold beer, snack or advice on the best surf break! The food, made with pure love from scratch was fresh and amazing. The surf guides made sure the guys were always taken to the best breaks at the best time. Don’t surf, no problem… fishing, beach walks(right on front), visits to Leon, so much to do if you wanted or just relax and enjoy! We can’t wait to go back!

My two best friends and I had an absolutely amazing time at Casa la Barra for our summer girls trip! Everyone in the staff is so nice and welcoming we felt right at home. My friends and I are all at different surfing levels but Christian and Luis were fantastic surf instructors in helping us all catch waves and even a few party waves. The best was after a long day of surfing, getting to jump in the pool or read a book in the hammock. All the food is prepared with the best quality and was delicious. We never had to worry about bad water in food and they had clean water jugs to fill water bottles. Bedrooms are comfortable with AC, blankets, and the softest sheets. This was such a great girls trip, left feeling so grateful, we will be back for sure!!

The best group of people I could have imagined.
Food fit for a king, cleanliness was great, come home from my average 6 hour day at the beach or boat to a made bed makes you know they care. Bodyboarded my brains out. So many rides at Chicken, La Barra, Shiftys, Casitas, and Transito.
Luis, Gersson, David, Alexander, Rafael,
Margelia, Eva, Salvador.
I highly recommend this establishment.
Met many new people and saw people who I have known for years at Sandino which was a nice surprise. So many more good things I could say...
God willing I can come back someday.

First time ever visiting Central America, and La Barra surf camp really set the bar high.
Great staff, amazing food beautiful sunsets and a really clean environment. AC in all the rooms, even the bar.
The surf guide Alexander is an amazing surf instructor and person taught me how to surf in less than 3 days standing on waves and enjoying the new experience.
The resort provided us 3 delicious meals a day, and the cook did not disappoint.
The rooms were cleaned daily, and the restrooms were cleaned around the clock. The AC worked amazing and the staff was very attentive.
The photographer Jerson is always around taking pictures of you making drinking an ice cold Toña look amazing, he made me look like a professional surfer haha definitely worth looking into purchasing pictures to take home and show everyone back home you’re a ripper.
We did some fishing and trolling around the point almost everyday it was great to be able to do what you love and have the local knowledge to steer you towards the right path. The resort also had a pool and games to keep you entertained. The pool was clean, and a decent size and depth. They had a great selection at the bar with non alcoholic as well.
Definitely coming back in the near future!
At La Barra Surf Camp I felt like family and treated like family.
Thank you to all the staff
Luis, Alexander ,Tío, Jeffery, jerson and the cooks behind the scenes. Continue being the best staff and treating everyone like family
SEE YOU SOON!!! 🤙🏽🤙🏽🌴🌴🌴🏄‍♂️🏄‍♂️🏄‍♂️

We came the 1st week of May. Sunny days and off shore winds every day and the surf was really good. The house is really secure with high block wall fencing all around it. It is 2 story with really cool views and hammocks up on the 2nd floor patio for yoga and chill’in. There are numerous options to surf every day, 4 break surfs a 5 min walk from the house. 20 min drive to El Transito, Or you can take to boat and surf Puerto Sandino and fish on the way home. All included as part of the package. My friends caught lots of fish so the resort cook Margelia made fresh ceviche almost every day. Speaking of food, I’ve been to many surf camps over the last 22 years in mainland Mexico and Central America and the food here is hands down the best anyplace. Luis the manager will cater to all your surf needs and the accommodations are fantastic. 2 queen beds, a restroom and AC in every room. The resort has numerous surfboards to loan in case you damage yours. I loved surfing out front at Chicken Bowls, a 5 min walk back to the house, taking a quick shower, grabbing an ice cold beer and taking a dip in the pool to cool down. We already booked for next year so forget about the first week in May 😆😆😆🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

It was a perfect week at Casa La Barra! The staff is perfect - making fresh meals every day, having drinks always ready, and accommodating and flexible to any request. There is something for everybody from adventurous activities like ash boarding and surfing to relaxation activities like yoga. I could’ve stayed at the house all day everyday and I can’t wait to go back to do it!

Recently stayed here with my cousin and cannot say enough good things about the experience. We’ve both been to nica before but this place is hands down our favorite. The all Nicaraguan staff took very good care of us in every way possible and left us wanting for nothing. The food is stellar and plentiful, the view out the back is out of a magazine and the variety of un crowded waves in close proximity to the house make this spot an easy choice. To top it off, travel restrictions are no longer in place so do yourself a favor and book casa la barra before the flood gates of surf travel open again.

I have been coming to Casa La Barra for 6 years and unfortunately our 2019 trip got postponed because of Covid.

What I can say now is that we recently returned and though the new covid-travel landscape poses some minor inconveniences like getting a pretest and filling out extra paperwork - the experience hasn't changed (if anything its better!) and I have never felt safer traveling, additionally the staff bent over backwards to help us navigate the ins and outs of Nica's requirements. They made getting all of our certifications/test done a breeze and timed it in a way that we didn't even miss a surf session! Super easy and much appreciated!!

Like always, Luis and JB are fantastic dudes who make the experience that much better and have become extended family over the years already, and new addition of Alex is a fantastic, amazing guide who maintains the stoke in and out of the water. I couldn't think of any other dudes Id rather share a lineup with there or anywhere else.

The food, as always, is absolutely world class, the grounds are beautiful and the surf - well, there's a reason we go back every year and look forward to it! The people and country of Nica are so warm and welcoming, just a fantastic place to be and worth every penny.

Thank you all so much and we look forward to going back again next year!

I went on this trip with one of my friends; it was our first time in Nicaragua (and first time in central america in general) and I couldn't recommend La Barra enough.

There's many potential activities the guides suggested for us, but we ended up mainly surfing in the morning and then relaxing the rest of the day in a hammock, lounge chair, or in the pool. We visited in October, and enjoyed consistent 4-6ft waves at a variety of breaks and experienced occasional rain (sometimes thunderstorms at night).

We had tons of personalized attention from the surf guides Alex and Luis, surfed every day, and enjoyed amazing meals. The resort is great; it's kept super clean and tidy and is located right on the beach.
