    Superb Break
Wow, wow, wow. We stayed in our stunning Gold Panners cabin to celebrate my 50th BD. The cabin was brilliantly designed with clever storage spaces and hanging hooks. Both the inside and out was very authentic with touches that took me to another era. The balcony with the rocking chairs was a real favourite with stunning views across the valley to Hambledon Hill which we climbed one day. Another fantastic walk was through the woods behind Loose Reins. The cabins have good cooking facilities and cooking barbecues on the fire pit was just magically and memorable. Marc, Jannette and other staff were really friendly, helpful and gave advice on the local area. The loyalty shop is stocked with wonderful local produce - my favourites were the local IPA and ice cream. The log fire and firepit were easy to get started. The shower was really good and always had warm water. We travelled further afield to places like Durdle Door but equally we had gorgeous days just enjoying the cabins and the beautiful location. Interacting with Butch and Sundance (resident goats), lassoing bull and horse shoe tossing were wonderful touches making the visit memorable. On the final night, with no lighting we witnessed the most amazing night sky, with so many stars and constellations. We had a truly wonderful time and will return. The cabins designed by Marc are really something special and all the top ratings for this magical place are deserved. Many thanks
Aww, thank you so much for your review and for taking the time to write it for us! It sounds like you guys had a great trip and packed a lot in!! So glad you enjoyed it and had such a lovely time, especially for a special birthday! We love the rocking chairs too, especially at night, it is a particular favourite of ours. :) Thank you and we really look forwards to welcoming you back again in future, From the Loose Reins team

Excellent stay in a beautiful place
We had a great week staying in one of the Loose Reins safari lodges. Despite having to deal at a distance due to COVID-19 requirements, the owners gave us a very warm welcome - all relevant info emailed in advance, the Lodge was spotless when we arrived, and our welcome pack meant we could have a cuppa straightaway! Views from the lodge are superb and everything was very comfy. There were some lovely walks right from the farm, and it's close to the North Dorset Trailway for biking or walking.
Our warm thanks for taking the trouble to leave a review, Katie. We so enjoyed meeting you all and we're absolutely delighted you had a great week! With our best wishes Marc and Jeanette.

    Lovely place but overpriced
I have wanted to stay here since I first heard about it 10 years ago, but never found availability to coincidence with my time off and school holidays. I was so excited when I found availability on my birthday weekend and booked even though I thought it expensive at £550 for 2 nights in a cabin. The check in is after 5pm and check out 9am so the holiday is only 2 nights and 1 day. Positives: The cabins are tiny but beautiful, very cleverly thought out and perfect for 2 people. (4 would be a bit of a squash). They are kitted out with everything you could possibly need and a lovely welcome hamper of eggs, bread, butter, jam, tea, coffee, biscuits and milk. The bed was extremely comfortable and really good quality linen and towels. Decent size bathroom although we struggled with the shower. The wood burner is fab and kept us toasty at night and enough complimentary logs for the 2 nights. Everything was spotlessly clean. The porch is large and a lovely place to sit and watch the sunrise and set. It is a very tranquil setting and very quiet. We enjoyed watching the horses and saying hello to the ponies and goats Negatives Couldn't get the shower to maintain a warm temperature which was a bit annoying. Check in time is very late and check out time very early. I understand the accomodation needs deep cleaning but 8 hours to do so seems excessive. It would be nice to have more time to enjoy a laid back morning on departure day rather than rushing to pack up and be out before 9am. The shop doesn't sell wine or cider although some of the literature says it does. We were looking forward to a cream tea but although there were scones and jam they had run out of clotted cream. I struggled to contact Loose Reins prior to our visit, no answer to 2 phone calls and no response to my first email. An extra £25 charge for our dog. I didn't realize there is no longer any horse riding so this was a disappointment, although my fault not theirs. I expected the place to be fully booked but there were only 2 other families staying over a school holiday weekend, which I imagine is due to the price. We had a lovely time and really enjoyed our stay, but it is too expensive for what it is and this is why I have given 4 stars. (I've booked a stay at a very similar place in August, with the added bonus of a hot tub for £400, which I think is a more realistic price).

You know how you enjoy a perfect break but there's always something missing, well not here at Loose Reins, in fact there was much more than we could have imagined..from our direct booking to departure. The Rancher cabin we booked looked stunning from me spot we parked the car and the excitement as we got closer was rewarded by the most spectacular welcome. Cool, rustic and brimming with modern conveniences. You first see the front of the cabin with the eco hot tub and spy the boxes of logs supplied just for you to warm the tub and the log burner in the cabin. The porch has beautiful rocking chairs, blankets and and a super comfy feel with a table and benches that fit the theme, with outside lighting in the shape or ranch lanterns that glow across the porch and paddock. A huge storage box for your luggage and things and a view outside of our gated paddock that truly is wonderful. Key turned in the door to discover the immaculate inside of the cabin. Bed at one end and how soft and plump are the duvet and pillows. A seating area and a very cool kitchen with absolutely everything.. and I mean everything that you need and really great quality crockery, utensils and little touches..we needed to bring nothing to this table and the welcome hamper was sumptuous and extremely generous. To the rear, it's very own bathroom with hot shower, toilet and sink with yet another view. Fresh white linen and towels were there for us and to say it exceeded our expectations is an understatement. There simply aren't words to describe the luxury of this authentic, immaculate cabin and warm, cosy feel to our cool evening and not forgetting our two little dogs who enjoyed their complimentary, huge and cosy, dog beds and towels, biscuits and special time with us here...and speaking of warm, our hosts Yasmin and Sam (and the team) couldn't have offered a warmer welcome. A personal service that is as good as it comes. So easy to contact, speak with and you really do feel looked after; nothing is too much trouble. The locally produced breakfast and BBQ hamper are highly recommended. We even used the complimentary local charcoal to cook our breakfasts and lunches on with our very own cooking pit to the side of the cabin. We enjoyed the peace, the quiet and private outstanding views. Our whole experience surpassed our expectations.. I said at the start that you often come away feeling, 'I wish there was this available', .. and 'that could have been better, cleaner, warmer or if only they'd thought of this', well.. they've thought of everything, every detail and it was perfect, perfect for us and I'll bet it will be perfect for you too whichever cabin or Lodge you stay in. We stayed in the Rancher cabin and we loved it.. Yasmin, Sam and all of your wonderful team, thank you! We needed this and you gave us so much! We look forward to next time and enjoying all of the wonderful things that you plan for your future at Loose Reins. This is Glamping with everything you need, want and a few treats you didn't expect. We have just returned from a weekend at Loose Reins and throughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in 'Ranchers' which was secluded and the perfect place to unwind; we loved the little details. Our little boy had an amazing time doing the Buckeroo club and loved meeting all the animals. We will definitely be looking to book again soon!

We made a last minute booking to stay here to break up our journey home from Devon and are so incredibly glad we did. On arrival, we instantly knew we’d arrived somewhere very special. It is in such a peaceful location with beautiful views of the countryside. Our daughter loved seeing the animals on the farm and being able to watch the horses in the fields from our balcony. At night, the whole sky was twinkling with stars. We stayed in one of the lodges which was spacious and so well equipped. The welcome hamper was packed full of tasty goodies and the kitchen was compact yet had everything we needed. The beds were so comfortable and we slept so well. The bathroom was spotless, the soaps, shower gels, shampoos etc were wonderful and the shower was hot and powerful. There were so many thoughtful touches throughout - from the well-thought-out guides sent beforehand to the little hideaway den and drawing desk which our daughter loved. Whilst many places call themselves ‘dog friendly’, this is one of the few places we’ve stayed which genuinely is. Our cocker spaniel loved the big comfy bed and treats, and the guide of dog friendly pubs, walks etc sent beforehand was fab. We were lucky to have great weather for our trip but I also know how cosy and lovely this place would be, whatever the weather. Our almost-two-year-old daughter loved being able to stay in a tent. And my husband and I loved being able to do so, whilst also having electricity, a comfortable bed, a toilet and a nice, hot shower! There really was every luxury you could’ve wanted here, all whilst being able to immerse yourself in nature and switch off from the world around. Win-win! A huge thank you to Yasmin for her squeezing us in at short notice, and for creating such an incredibly special place. We may not have been able to stay for long but we created such wonderful memories and it was the perfect way to finish our trip on such a high. We cannot wait to return and stay for longer.

Loose Reins is a small glamp site set in a peaceful wooded valley. Beautifully appointed lodges (only 3 of them - it's a very quiet relaxing place) and shepherd huts (again, only 3) spaced generously across the site between fields with horses, foals, cute friendly sheep and characterful pygmy goats. An easy walk into the village, pubs not far, the lovely West Dorset Trailway only a 10 min walk. The lodges had everything we needed and have been thoughtfully put together by its lovely owners. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Wow! We loved our stay at Loose Reins. If you want to get away from it all and just relax with a book, or walk through some wonderful countryside, then this is the place to go. We stayed in the "Foresters" lodge. We took our two dogs with us. I thought it was a bit steep to be charged £25 per dog for the stay (Monday to Friday), but I have to say, there are many places that claim to be dog friendly - mostly I find them dog tolerant. Loose Reins is absolutely dog friendly. As we entered our tent there were two dog beds/cushions by the door, with two long leashes with ground anchors, towels, bags of treats and poo bags. It was a wonderful first impression and set the tone for the rest of our stay You are given a welcome basket with a selection of local treats and staples. Bread from the local bakery, a bag of crisps from Cornwall, eggs from their own chickens, biscuits, and more. I can't honestly remember everything. Milk in the fridge, tea, coffee (proper ground coffee, not some instant garbage!), sugar, butter is all provided. The beds all had electric blankets which I'm sure would be really appreciated in colder months. Storage was a little tight. We were a party of three so accommodation for 6 left us with a spare room which we used as a dressing room. You are in a tent, so don't expect wardrobes and drawers to put your clothes in! But isn't that the great thing about "glamping". The romanticism of camping, with some creature comforts. The hot tub was great. It took a few hours to warm it up on the first day. They provide logs, kindling, firefighters and matches. Once warmed up we found the tub held it's heat really well and just need a little boost every day. They empty and re-fill the tub between guests, using water from their own borehole supply. Yasmin was super responsive responding to any questions really quickly and happy to suggest day trips out. Loose reins really is a fabulous find. My one negative comment would be that it is a shame that the tents are sited where they are, facing north (to give the best views) with steep hills to the east, south and west. Because of this getting some sun on the veranda is not an option until early evening. It would have been perfect to be able to sit out in the morning, being warmed by the sun as I drank my coffee. To be fair, there is a patch of grass that got the sun from about 10am when we visited (August) so it's not a deal breaker for us. Book it, you wont regret it!

After a hectic start to the year Loose Reins was the perfect tonic to get some well needed R&R in! The location is hidden away, peaceful and the cabins are well positioned to give privacy. The cabin was beautifully presented, comfortable and had everything I needed, and having the outside veranda to sit on with those countryside views was a lovely bonus. The weather on the first night was dire but it meant making the most of the woodburner and cosy cabin, whilst the next day was glorious sunshine, perfect for trying out the hottub! They was a lovely welcome hamper of goodies and when I ran out of firelighters Yasmin came to my rescue and sat a chatted with me until the fire was roaring! Nothing was too much trouble, Yasmin and Amber have been a pleasure to deal with and I look forward to visiting again! :-)

I have just returned home from another superb visit to Loose Reins. Waking up to blue skies, fields, birdsong and a couple of gorgeous goats, Butch and Sundance. The best thing about Loose Reins is the peace and tranquillity. Poor signal on phones means it is not ideal for a phone assessed teenager but for a couple who need relaxation from every day life it’s perfect. We stayed in Ranchers cabin, small but perfectly formed. Sam, Yasmin and Millie give such a warm welcome, they are in tune with the environment and provide eco hot tubs with each accommodation. These are fuelled by wood and unlike electric tubs they stay warm whilst in use. Yasmin has the most gorgeous Stallion Domino that she does dressage with and there is a breeding program. On this stay we were lucky enough to see 2 foals. One was 6 weeks and one was 4 weeks. They are healthy and Bonny and trotting along beside their mums. Lovely to see! Rosie the dog was very happy to see us and even ate the carrot I was giving to the goats. Domino was surprisingly friendly and sweet in nature. On arrival there is a hamper of local goods, milk in the fridge and free range eggs from their own hens. Loose Reins is a little bit of paradise, we loved it last year and we loved it again this year. Sam and Yasmin love their animals and are a perfect little family. If you are looking to stay somewhere in Dorsey Loose Reins is a must. We will definitely return soon. Yasmin: Change the knives. 🤣

Bold title for a review - I appreciate, but that is legitimately a verbatim quote from my wife. We visited end of April / start of May '23. in celebration of our wedding anniversary. We wanted somewhere tranquil & secluded, with nice scenery & plenty of good walks nearby. Loose Reins ticked a lot of boxes, & our only concern before visiting was how likely it would be that we would end up having to interact with other people. Fortunately, we were able to keep to ourselves for the majority of our stay & - whilst there are six properties on site - we were able to go about our business with a good level of privacy. If there are any particularly noisy groups staying in the vicinity at the same time as you, you may hear a little noise (there was one group who got a bit rowdy on their last night) - but there's enough distance between the accomodations that - by the time you've shut your cabin door & put some music on - you won't hear much disturbance. The cabin itself (Gold Panners) was splendid. It was my first time staying in a cabin of this nature so I must admit my first reaction was surprise at how small it is - but that's actually part of it's charm. This also became a positive factor during our stay when the temperature dropped a tad one evening... fortunately the compact nature of the property means that by the time you've boiled the kettle & / or had the oven running for 15/20 minutes to heat food up - you've generated enough heat to keep the place plenty warm throughout the night! A wood burner stove is also on-hand inside, but we didn't need to use it - I was pleasantly surprised to find myself lounging around in boxers & a vest for the majority of our stay. I would imagine the stove would be an absolute delight if you were staying during the colder months, mind you. Everything you could want or need for has been thought of, with a well stocked kitchen (crockery, glasses, mugs, pans, grills etc. all provided). The welcome hamper was a nice touch &, although we'd stopped at Tesco on the way to pick up a few snacky bits, it was nice to have some biscuits, bread, milks & eggs from the region. The dog was pleased with the gravy bones which greeted her too. We were impressed that a stake & lead had been provided for her to use outside the cabin, though I would probably recommend bringing a few poo bags of your own - as the little box provided in the cabin was probably not enough for our spaniel (who insists on pooping 5 or 6 times a day LOL). The only other point I'd make with regards to your pet is that although a dog pillow is supplied (tucked neatly under the table), it's worth bringing your own blanket if, like mine, your furry friend likes to burrow when settling down to sleep! Some blankets were available inside the cabin, but - given that they weren't labelled as being for the dog - we assumed these were for human consumption only (fortunately we always keep Tilly's favourite in the car!). The bed was amongst the comfiest I've ever slept in, & the lovely fluffy duvet & pillows perfectly snug for the occasion. Both my wife & I suffer with neck issues from time-to-time, so we're both very particular about pillows - but those on offer were adequate enough that we were both able to get a good night's rest without any issue. The shower was (again quoting my wife) "the best show [she's] ever used". On one occasion she actually shouted out to me "I might just stay in here for the rest of the day!" The provided eco-friendly shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/soap were delightful also (we were slightly gutted when we saw the sign on the wall asking us not to take them with us!). I salute the person who stays at the property after us if they're able to figure out how to swap the toilet roll over though - I don't consider myself thick, but the holder in the bathroom certainly stumped me! Although I don't concede to being thick - I accept that I'm a complete "townie". This became very apparent on our first night when, having never started a fire before, we discovered that we were completely incapable of keeping one lit - a necessity if you're going to get use out of the hot tub. Thankfully Yasmin (who was lovely) was on-hand to help us out. In spite of the vast amount of practice we had over the 3 days we were on site, we're still pretty inept at keeping a fire going. So my advice would be to bring a bottle of lighter fluid along with you if you plan to get a good amount of use out of the tub! We had a lovely sunny day during our stay so decided to take the dog for a walk along the bridleway up the side of the site, to the top of the hill (which is deceivingly high - much more so than you can appreciate from the photos). Whilst it nearly killed us doing so, we were glad we did - as the view from the top was amazing. If you walk through the fields to the woods on the other side you'll be greeted by a lovely bluebell forest. It looked like something out of a Disney film. All-in-all, we can't fault our stay here. It was exactly the escape from the day-to-day grind we both needed & we came back feeling thoroughly refreshed. Our only regret really is that we had to return to the real world!

We had the most idyllic three nights at Loose Reins in one of the canvas lodges. Comfy, warm beds, a fully stocked kitchen with everything you could need (down to egg cups!), a lovely welcome hamper and a log burner. We loved the hot tub and our three children had the absolute best time exploring the farm (really recommend the Buckaroo club) and the woods behind the lodges. We can’t wait to go back - thank you so much Yasmin for a fantastic stay

What an absolutely stunning place. We honestly couldn't have asked for more. Our cabin was stunning and it came with every conceivable luxury - it was beautifully put together from the bedding, to the toiletries, to the very thoughtful welcome basket. The location was wonderful too - tranquil and calm. The call of the owls in the evening was just sublime while we relaxed in the hottub. We couldnt' recommend Loose Reins enough - we'll definitely be back. A massive thank you to Yasmin for being an incredible host - so helpful and kind.
