Bold title for a review - I appreciate, but that is legitimately a verbatim quote from my wife. We visited end of April / start of May '23. in celebration of our wedding anniversary. We wanted somewhere tranquil & secluded, with nice scenery & plenty of good walks nearby. Loose Reins ticked a lot of boxes, & our only concern before visiting was how likely it would be that we would end up having to interact with other people. Fortunately, we were able to keep to ourselves for the majority of our stay & - whilst there are six properties on site - we were able to go about our business with a good level of privacy. If there are any particularly noisy groups staying in the vicinity at the same time as you, you may hear a little noise (there was one group who got a bit rowdy on their last night) - but there's enough distance between the accomodations that - by the time you've shut your cabin door & put some music on - you won't hear much disturbance. The cabin itself (Gold Panners) was splendid. It was my first time staying in a cabin of this nature so I must admit my first reaction was surprise at how small it is - but that's actually part of it's charm. This also became a positive factor during our stay when the temperature dropped a tad one evening... fortunately the compact nature of the property means that by the time you've boiled the kettle & / or had the oven running for 15/20 minutes to heat food up - you've generated enough heat to keep the place plenty warm throughout the night! A wood burner stove is also on-hand inside, but we didn't need to use it - I was pleasantly surprised to find myself lounging around in boxers & a vest for the majority of our stay. I would imagine the stove would be an absolute delight if you were staying during the colder months, mind you. Everything you could want or need for has been thought of, with a well stocked kitchen (crockery, glasses, mugs, pans, grills etc. all provided). The welcome hamper was a nice touch &, although we'd stopped at Tesco on the way to pick up a few snacky bits, it was nice to have some biscuits, bread, milks & eggs from the region. The dog was pleased with the gravy bones which greeted her too. We were impressed that a stake & lead had been provided for her to use outside the cabin, though I would probably recommend bringing a few poo bags of your own - as the little box provided in the cabin was probably not enough for our spaniel (who insists on pooping 5 or 6 times a day LOL). The only other point I'd make with regards to your pet is that although a dog pillow is supplied (tucked neatly under the table), it's worth bringing your own blanket if, like mine, your furry friend likes to burrow when settling down to sleep! Some blankets were available inside the cabin, but - given that they weren't labelled as being for the dog - we assumed these were for human consumption only (fortunately we always keep Tilly's favourite in the car!). The bed was amongst the comfiest I've ever slept in, & the lovely fluffy duvet & pillows perfectly snug for the occasion. Both my wife & I suffer with neck issues from time-to-time, so we're both very particular about pillows - but those on offer were adequate enough that we were both able to get a good night's rest without any issue. The shower was (again quoting my wife) "the best show [she's] ever used". On one occasion she actually shouted out to me "I might just stay in here for the rest of the day!" The provided eco-friendly shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/soap were delightful also (we were slightly gutted when we saw the sign on the wall asking us not to take them with us!). I salute the person who stays at the property after us if they're able to figure out how to swap the toilet roll over though - I don't consider myself thick, but the holder in the bathroom certainly stumped me! Although I don't concede to being thick - I accept that I'm a complete "townie". This became very apparent on our first night when, having never started a fire before, we discovered that we were completely incapable of keeping one lit - a necessity if you're going to get use out of the hot tub. Thankfully Yasmin (who was lovely) was on-hand to help us out. In spite of the vast amount of practice we had over the 3 days we were on site, we're still pretty inept at keeping a fire going. So my advice would be to bring a bottle of lighter fluid along with you if you plan to get a good amount of use out of the tub! We had a lovely sunny day during our stay so decided to take the dog for a walk along the bridleway up the side of the site, to the top of the hill (which is deceivingly high - much more so than you can appreciate from the photos). Whilst it nearly killed us doing so, we were glad we did - as the view from the top was amazing. If you walk through the fields to the woods on the other side you'll be greeted by a lovely bluebell forest. It looked like something out of a Disney film. All-in-all, we can't fault our stay here. It was exactly the escape from the day-to-day grind we both needed & we came back feeling thoroughly refreshed. Our only regret really is that we had to return to the real world!…
