I didn’t stay in this hostel bus still I think they deserve 5 starts. I needed help to get a boat and Alexey helped me when nobody did. Thank you you were great and I hope to visit soon when I come back to Baikal

The place is very peaceful. But be prepared for the rustic beds, it is a wooden board. But there are hot showers and it is pretty clean. The kitchen is pretty basic, don't expect any free coffee or tea. And there is no space to hang out with the other travelers. Overall it is good place to stay but the price is high for the quality of the stay. The tenant is nice and speak a quit good English, and she can prepare the breakfast.

We stayed here for one night. Alexsy gave us a very warm welcome and a choice of three rooms as we were the first of the guests to arrive that evening. We chose a room in an old house it was basic with hard beds but cosy as there are some lovely touches to the room with lamps and photographs. The bathrooms are shared, ours was very clean and there was hot water for well needed showers. The kitchen is compact but everything you needed was there. Alexsy is chatty and interesting to talk to, he has travelled a lot. Everyone we met staying here was very friendly. It's a real break away from everything, very quiet and peaceful.

Great hostel in a great location. Be prepared for very basic facilities - hard wooden beds, limited cooking facilities, outdoor bathroom, but worth it for the location. Dorms are actually twin rooms, but limited security. The hike back to Listvyanka from here is lovely. The route is easy to follow, tricky in places with fallen trees blocking the path and steep drops, but the views are lovely. Mile 8 to 9 is steeply up hill and then the lady 3 miles are downhill.

This is the perfect place to come and relax, enjoy some beautiful scenery and peace and quiet. We walked here from Listvyanka and snapped up the offer of dinner when we arrived. If you are offered food here, take it! It's tasty and fresh. Some of the best food of our trip so far.

The place is very simple with cabins, a basic kitchen, toilets outside, simple beds, and you have to get water from the lake in winter. The view is amazing, the village is picturesque and the people are... very few. (About 20 people in winter). The guy who run the place is very nice. It makes you feel in deep Siberia and alone in the world in winter because the village is only reachable by walking on the frozen lake (16km, it's a 3 or 5 hours walk, depending on your equipment. It took us 5 hours with bad shoes). To avoid the long walk, it's possible to hitchhike (easy during the week-end, but you have to wake up early or to be lucky during the week). Take some food with you because the only little shop is quiet expensive and have expired food. There is no possibilities to rent ice skate or ski, that's a bit frustrating. I have to go back there in summer !…

Very nice little village, calm, authentic, many possibilities to hike and explore the lake. Aleksej is a very friendly and will help you everything you need. You should try out the banja, the Russian sauna. At night you may start a fire next to the harbor and grill your Omul.

Lesnaya 7 is a small hostel located in the gorgeous town of Bolshyie Koty on the shores of Lake Baikal. The town is not accessible by road and so provides a unique Russian rural experience, particularly in winter. The Lesnaya 7 hostel provides a great base for exploring this region with simple yet comfortable rooms, communal cooking facilities and (in summer) an on site banya. Be prepared for basic bathroom facilities like a pit toilet, but it's all part of the fun in such a rustic location. The owner is a wealth of knowledge about his beloved Baikal region and is unfailingly helpful .

We stayed here for four nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the accomodation is in lovely chalets and the shared bath room has an environmentally friendly composting loo (bonus points for that) Alex, the owner is very friendly and invited us to visit him at his home in Irkutsk too. Would highly reccomend Bolshie Koty which is where Lesnaya 7 is located as a more laid back, quieter alternative to litsvyanka.
