For anyone who has visited the West of Costa Rica or wants to be in the middle of nature, it is a must for them to visit the east coast of Costa Rica. The roads are not the greatest but it does offer a much serene, peaceful and a different natural beauty that you cannot find on the West coast. Hotel Finca Ri Perla takes you away from the unnecessary luxury and brings your mind, thoughts & focus to be with yourself or whoever you are traveling with. The rain forest along with its nature is breath taking & makes you celebrate life all over again. This is a place to leave your PC, cell phones and outside connections to your real world at home. The people are very calm and relaxed. It is a place to return over and over.

We weren't a hundred percent certain on what to expect from Finca Rio Perla. The road there was way off the beaten path, through expansive farm lands. Our experience there however, left no doubt, this was the major highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. Amazing hospitality, immersive authenticity, incredible activities, and great people/conversations define Finca Rio Perla. Our entire Costa Rica trip we tried to avoid the touristy parts because we wanted to experience real adventure as well as the more authentic aspects of life in Costa Rica. Finca Rio Perla exceeded these expectations. We spent time with Deniz, Esteban, and Fressia, all amazing hosts for us. Fressia made us rich meals and held great conversations with us. Deniz was welcoming and told us stories about the area. Esteban showed us what a day on the farm looked like, as well as guided us through numerous activities: milking cows, preparing manure, making cheese, feeding chickens and collecting eggs, learning about the crops, horseback riding to breathtaking waterfalls on the Finca, swimming in crystal the clear river, catching a tilapia from the farm, identifying fruits, etc. It was an incredibly rewarding experience to be in el campo - the farmland and accompany Esteban on his daily tasks. He was very fun and knowledgable. One precursor, at least one of the people coming in your group should speak fluent Spanish. This is true Spanish immersion and without being able to speak it you won't be able to communicate and learn from the people out here. Overall, this experience was an unforgettable highlight of our time in Costa Rica, and I would recommend it to those who are adventurous and want to get their hands dirty on the farm.

Day 2- Awaken by the birds, I  took a walk around the farm and then over the hill. Once again I was in awe of all that is unknown to me. Like the way young mares frolic with each other or witnessing the brightest red on the under belly of a black bird. I think to myself that is the reddest red I've ever seen. On this day I was grateful for vision and opportunity.
After breakfast we took the horses and rode up to the macadamia grove. Paulo was very excited to see the growth of many newly planted macadamian trees. He showed me the machine that partially prepares them for processing. There were other plants like corn and peas that were planted haphazardly but if you knew what you were looking for you'd find it. We took an hour hike up a path into the rainforest to see a big waterfall and then to another smaller one that had a natural bathing pool.  Absolutely breathtaking.
This place, Finca Rio Perla, undoubtedly changes it's visitors. This is my second time in CR. The first time I was a tourist and brought back pictures, this time I had an unforgettable experience of what life can be without a lot of stuff...FULLFILLING!

My stay at the Posada Rustica at Finca Rio Perla was amazing. Driving in is breathtaking...the (macro) views of the landscape before you, are surreal in beauty, only surpassed by the (micro) views of old growth, flora, fauna, world class hikes to world class waterfalls and natural pools. Accomadations are homelike, charming, and comfortable in every way. Life is led simply, naturally, and communally, the way it should be....quality is the standard. Horseback riding from town to town, crossing rivers, and rounding up the cows was so much fun, exciting, and confidence building. Learning about food production...milking cows (not easy), cheesemaking, ice cream was fun and delicious...quite a different experience....and OMGoodness the food was superb, vegetarian, but vegan and pescetarian friendly. The staff is the heart and soul of the farm, making me feel welcome and part of something GREAT. A rare life experience. I highly recommend Finca Rio Perla to everybody.

My son and I stayed here for 5 days and 4 nights this past week. We had an amazing vacation filled with peace and adventure. The place is very accommodating and the owners Paul and Lauren are wonderful hosts that will make you feel right at home. During our visit, we enjoyed hiking in the mountains with beautiful scenery, long swims in the fresh rivers and picturesque waterfalls, and horseback riding along the beautiful terrain. We also went fishing and even ate our fresh catch for dinner the same day. All the food was organic and delicious; my son even got to hand pick the eggs we ate for breakfast straight from the hen house. And the best part of the trip was the day we were leaving my son turned to me and asked, “when are we coming back.” I truly recommend this place to anyone looking for a tranquil yet energetic get away. I will definitely be returning soon.

First time for our family of 5 in CR .we enjoyed an amazing rustic experience at an amazing Finca Rio Perla farm . The food was amazing organic fresh tasty and all grown at Rio Perla farm . Paul and Lauren the owners of the farm took really good care of us . My kids milked the caws learned how you can light your stove with natural gas that they make in the farm ,ride the beautiful horses up the mountain to the Macadamia area , we meet Jonny the amazing painter on the way to the beautiful water falls . La perla river is on the farm property we enjoyed hiking for 20 min until we arrived to a breathtaking water fall with a natural swimming pool and if you are brave enough as my kids you can jump to the pool from the cliff about 20 foot jump . we swam for an hour and kept hiking and discovering many plant speeches on the farm .
There are many more natural pools on the property you can spend 2 full days of only hiking on the farm . My kids love soccer so they plaied on the soccer filed that in on the property , if you are not a player you can sit at the out door "bar " and watch the game . we love animals so enjoyed playing and petting the caws rabbits Chicks horses goats chickens roosters and many dogs that do not need a leash ( love that ) the dogs are really friendly and they will join the hiking as well . Just before dark we cough about 15 Talapia fish cleaned them and my son cooked them in an hour on the BBQ --FRESH --YAMMY .
The rooms are really clean & cosy and after a long hiking day a hot shower and chilling on an hammock is a perfect end .
You do not need an alarm clock the roosters will do it for you and to be honest it is lovely to get up early and start the day .
they have internet but the trick is NOT to tell it to the kids ... been together without the instegram snapshot twitter FB was the best part of it . They are only 30 min from the best white water rafting in CR and an hour from the Caribbean beaches . The view at the farm is amazing you can see the Caribbean coast . do your self afavor and buy a $10 boots on the way it is a MUST .
THANK YOU we will defiantly come back and visit

When we travel, we always do our best to experience the true country and people of the region. This was our second trip to CR and we wanted to again, experience the true Tico and "pura vida" of this wonderful country. We spent our last two days at Finca Rio Perla, and it was not enough. Vivian and Efrain are wonderful hosts and warm, caring people. We were the only guests there at that time, so we had them all to ourselves! This is a working, sustainable farm and everything you eat is grown there. Eggs fresh that morning, milk fresh from the goats and cows and all the fresh fruit and veggies you can eat! I milked a goat (not very well) watched a colt being shoed for the first time, baby goats frolicing and enjoyed the tranquil surroundings. Efrain walked us to the waterfalls, explaining the vegatation along the way. We ate macadamia nuts, raw coffee and sugar, and fruits that were new to me. Practice your Spanish, neither Vivian or Efrain speak English. They have translation books and we did quite well with our pico Spanish and their pico English. We became attached to them, and very sad when we left realizing that we would never see them again. This is a special place that we will never forget.

We booked through Ami Greene who took very good care of us, setting up a wonderful river rafting trip as well. If you want beer or wine, stop on your way in to the farm.

This place is wonderful. Part of its beauty is how secluded it is- literally off the beaten path. The views are incredible and it was a great way to experience Costa Rica. I did the package of 7 days 6 nights with meals and activities included. It's up to you as a visitor how much or little you make of it. I opted to try and do everything they offered- I milked a goat for the first time and learned how to make cheese with it and got to eat it! Literally a farm to table first hand experience- doesn't get much more real than that! The waterfalls are amazing though some take more hiking than others to get to, again though it's part of the beauty and the experience. I really enjoyed the farm staff, they were a pleasure and so helpful. The only thing I would say since it wasn't as apparent to me, was that unless you stay in the Casa Central (which is not the main Posada), all of the meals and activities are generally done as a group with whoever else is staying in the various rooms/houses depending on who wants to participate. While I met some interesting people and had fun with them, just know that you are subject to whoever is staying there and that might affect your experience either in a good or not so good way. This was a truly great way to experience Costa Rica and the beauty of the land. I learned so much from everyone and fell in love with the country!

Finca Rio Perla was a very authentic Costa Rican experience. What I experienced here was an intimate rural setting near a dormant volcano with a very friendly Tico family. Although I didn't speak any Spanish, my month long stay was great. At first, I felt like I was imposing, but after a few days, I really felt welcome and at home. If you like getting away from it all, you will love it here. There are a few options: you can work during the day for a more affordable stay, or you can pay more and relax all day. I ended up taking the more affordable option, so I worked for about 4 hours per day. Some of the things you might end up doing if you work here: painting, helping with construction projects, herding sheep, scrubbing down horses, watering the garden, planting, digging, and more. When you're all sweaty and tired of working, you can walk along a really nice path over the hill down to Rio Perla, the cleanest, purest river around. There are jungle vines hanging everywhere around the river, some of them you can even swing off of like tarzan! The waterfalls are gorgeous and refreshing for swimming. Some days you will ride horses to the old macadamia nut plantation, where you can pick your own macadamias! After a day's work and refreshing dip, you can come home to a family style Tico meal (I hope you like rice and beans!) I do recommend brushing up on your Spanish before you visit, although as I recalled earlier, I didn't speak any Spanish when I went (though I did have an English to Spanish translator app on my phone, which came in very handy). One of my favorite parts about Finca Rio Perla was the abundant wildlife. There are many hummingbirds, howler monkeys, insects of all kinds, toucans, frogs, and much more. One of the drawbacks is that there is a long bumpy road that is not easy to access without a four wheel drive vehicle. But it definitely gets you away from the diesel fumes of the main roads in Costa Rica. Also, if you don't like insects, you may be freaked out by the big bugs flying around at night, and the little bugs that seem to smell sugary things before you even set them down on the table. There are tiny little ants that swarm all over the tables if there is any amount of food left out. But overall, it was a great experience.
