I stayed for one night whilst cycling the rail trail and it was by far my favourite acommodation. It´s an old school house that has been converted into a BnB. The kitchen and common room are housed in the (single) old class room. Loved that they have themed rooms. I stayed in the "sports shed". The owners were super friendly... More

Like many others we spent a night here while doing the rail trail. Wonderfully warm and clean rooms. Beds were so comfy. Esme and her husband were great hosts, we will stay again. (If you like this review please click on the "helpful vote" button)

A fantastic and truly unique experience staying in a converted school with a plenty of character, complimentary cookies, breaky and some good old fashioned Kiwi hospitality. Esme is a true gem and Bruce was an absolute ripper, busting out some tunes on his ucalaly as we relaxed in the old classroom. The rooms were basic but immaculate with great beds... More

I expected very basic accommodation on our rail trail but were pleasantly surprised when we arrived in Lauder on our first night. Esme was warm and welcoming and the quaint country property just put a smile on our faces immediately. The ensuite rooms were comfortable and very well maintained. Dinner was available at the Lauder Pub across the road, which... More

We didn't book our accommodation through the rail trail and by the time we arrived in Lauder we would have been happy with anything! When we arrived the hostess, Esme, was so friendly and lovely. You felt part of the family immediately. We stayed in the music cottage and it was fantastic! The cottage was spacious enough for two of... More

Thanks Bruce and Esme for tour friendly hospitality, good food and clean, comfortable accommodation. Best time in detention ever!!!! Will be back. Accommodation for our cycling group was spread over staff room, library, music room, ... and detention, in this repurposed country school. We were a group of twenty and all felt this was a highlight of the Otago Central... More

A fabulous b&b with wonderful hosts. Bruce and Esme couldn't do enough to look after our party of 11. Bruce even drove down the trail to pick up the 3 rainsoaked kids in our group who were in need of a lift to our accomodation! The rooms are very modern and the beds are luxurious. All in all a perfect... More

We were a family of four - parents, with 2 adult children. We did the trail over three days starting at Middlemarch and Lauder was a perfect location to stop on night two. We chose to stay at the school for it's quaintness and booked The Detention Shed. This was a two bedroom one bathroom bungalow type room and was... More
