Great to finally visit Weenen, considering we now just live an hour away. Camped with wife and baby for the weekend, and it was totally awesome! Good spot if you just want to get away. Place was well maintained for a state-owned reserve, and animal sightings were great - including 9 RHINO 400 m from the camp site. Considering the...

We arrived at Weenen Game Reserve greeted by two very friendly and helpful security officers. After the necessary procedures we started our game drive. The roads were well maintained except for the road from Sanctuary picnic site ( I will go into detail later). The toilets were clean and the hide was amazing. We saw a lot of animals on...

This game reserve is a hidden gem in KZN. We took a drive from Champagne Valley in the Drakensburg to this Game Reserve early one morning. The drive took us about an hour. We could find NO information on this game reserve so had no expectations. This game reserve however was worth the drive and entry fee. The reserve was...

This was our second visit, the first being in 2013, and I am sorry to report that things have not improved much in the intervening years. The animal sightings are poor. The road conditions have improved - with the exception of the Sanctuary Loop - which PLEASE NOTE that if you do not have an extremely high clearance off road...

It is no often in life where you decide to take an impulsive decision, go off the beat and track and then find an absolute gem of a place. On our way to camp in the Drakensberg this weekend, we decided not to go hiking in the Berg, but be bold and go camping at Weenen Game Reserve. Not having...

Have been going to this great place for over 30 years. Took a day trip to Weenen and was surprised by the improvements made. Roads are back to their best and visible improvements to hides and camp. The sightings board was also a great addition. Awesome to see!

we took 2 self-drives of 3 hours each. late afternoon and early the next morning. Saw Rhino, giraffe, warthog, zebra and various buck. Shaded picnic site and a great view site. The watering hole is dried up due to drought so we missed sitting at the hide. We stayed overnight at Owl & Elephant lodge which is just a few...

We had a wonderful day in this reserve in some sweltering heat. We very quickly saw plenty of Giraffe, zebra, rhino, eland, kudu and all the other small game. It was very uncrowded and had some amazing picnic spots. A real gem out where you wouldn't expect it.

I have been a few times in this game and all the times we spotted the rhino's, giraffes, zebra's and other animals. It took us approx 3 hours to do all the loops. They are improving the roads professionally at the moment and the sign posts are clear. It's also a amazing experience to camp on the game side! Of...

We'd been to this reserve about 15 years ago when the game viewing was fantastic & you were practically tripping over rhino. Not this time. To begin with, there were no maps to guide you & although I remember there was a walk to a dam, the signs telling us not to get out of our car except in the...
