My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Rose and Crown. We couldn't fault the setting or the accommodation but the food wasn't what we were expecting. The main menu changes daily so you don't know what you will be getting or whether you will want it.We tried this menu on our first night and it was well cooked and presented...

Spent 2 nights here and loved the place. Cosy bar with open fire was a relaxing way to warm up from the sleet and rain outside. Service great, food excellent. We stayed in a courtyard room with the dog and maybe the bathroom could do with some updating (chips in the bath and quite dated red/pink tiles) . But was...

Delightful and very well run 18th century coaching inn retaining its original character. In a quiet location next to the ancient village church in Romaldkirk, a pretty village in upper Teesdale - essentially a northern extension of the Yorkshire Dales. Great walking country - we enjoyed an 18km trek along a path once occupied by a railway to Mickleton, across...

Just returned from a lovely family celebration and one nights stay at this pub hotel. We had a fab time, the rooms were lovely. The pub was ideally situated in the village and was near Barnard Castle. The Accomodstion was Good and value for money. The Breakfast was nice, we also stayed for Sunday lunch, but not sure this was...

Took advantage of the 'Lazy Sunday' offer even though we live fairly locally. Bar ambience pleasant with lovely fire and good food but would especially say really enjoyed all three of our wine selections (two by the glass!) and the cheeseboard.

What a wonderful and charming gem of a place representing everything wonderful about County Durham. Lovely suite/bedroom, super staff and amazing food. We will definitely be back. Stunning location & lovely cosy place. 4/5 because of a couple of minor points - the bed - mattress really awful & bedding bobbled - needs crisp white bedding to match the rest...

Lovely pub and hotel with a good standard of food and accommodation.. we used this place as a base for walking high force. Our stay was marred by the attitude from one of the girls behind the bar who made it quite clear she didn't want to be there and we were an inconvenience for her... shame.

Returning after 3 years on our last tour. The Rose and Crown is quite a special place. Whether relaxing for a weekend or just passing through the location and rooms are top notch. We were just passing through for an overnight stay before heading north. Rooms, fantastic, food very good and ambience second to none. Can recommend the "snug" at...

We've stayed and dined here before and it won't be the last time (even though due to popularity it's getting busier). Meeting friends from Durham it was ideal as we were in one of the cottages attached to the main hotel which gave us a bit of privacy and genuinely felt like a home from home. Great welcome from consistent...

We were a party of ten family members who hadn't seen each for a while and what a lovely place to meet up in. The evening meals were really good and staff were pleasant and very helpful. Breakfast was also very good and the atmopshere was lovely. Our room even though it was on the top floor was really nice...
