Rod, your host, is the colourful part of your stay. So welcoming in his kiwi way and so passionate about life in the Sounds. Through his stories and his delicious cooking-you might even get some freshly caught Blue Cod from his boat- you get an insight into Sound history and life and a real taste of NZ. We loved, and already miss, the incredible peace and rhythm of his house and surrounds. You are immersed in the rainforest perched up above the sea. Additional bonuses: Super comfortable beds and bathroom, a library of books and delicious packed lunches for the next days walking. I’ll be back with the kids and husband next time as I want them to experience a slice of this wonderfully peaceful life. Thank you Rod, for enhancing a special time.

My wife and I stayed here one night with another couple. We were walking the queen charlotte trail and this was our first stop. Small place, three rooms. We stayed upstairs, ensuite, wifi and cooked dinner by our host Rod. Breakfast supplied and option of packed lunch taken up.(no shops along the trail so either bring your own or have it provided.) Clean and comfy rooms, big comfy bed, good bathroom. There was no one else staying other than the four of us so we had the place to ourselves. Cold beer available (or wine) on arrival and Rod fixed us some snacks to hold us over till dinner time. Highly recommended.

This is a 2 bedroom guest accommodation with no kitchen access. The host Rod is the cook. There is a limited menu and we were fortunate that we could choose a gluten free option This is a fine first stop on the Queen Charlotte walk if Furneaux Lodge is full. But this is a limited place for other amenities

We received a warm welcome from Isabel and Rod after our first day walking. It felt friendly and homely so we were glad we booked for 2 nights! The men were especially keen to go on the fishing trip after the second day walk. Rod picked us up with his boat at Punga Cove and he found great spots to catch tarakihi. The fishing boat was cool, it even has a little fireplace. On the way back dolphins joined us for a while. Both days the meals were lovely...not many places where you would get meat/fish caught by the man himself! Venison&Wild Pork were both delicious and so was our own caught Tarakihi in beerbatter! Isabel and Rod were a great team, cooking for us and conversations flowed easily. We highly recommend The Bluewater Lodge as it made our QCwalk extra special! Thanks Rod and Isabel.

The Bluewater Lodge is the perfect option on the Queen Charlotte Track, specially for the first night. It's also possible to go and stay even if you're not walking the track, since water taxi companies can drop you off and pick you up daily. If booking more than 1 night, Rod, the owner, will take you on a fishing/boating trip on his boat and cook your caught for your dinner. Perfect place to read, relax, meditate...
