I was on holiday in Crete at the end of September. The weather was excellent, not hot, you could sunbathe, walk, the sea was warm. I chose the hotel for a quiet and relaxing holiday. It is located in the south of the island in Damnoni Bay, where you can enjoy the untouched nature of Crete. The transfer to the hotel is long: 2-3 hours, but during this time you can see the island. The hotel is small, there is a restaurant, a pool bar with a beautiful view of the sea. I had a standard double room with panoramic windows offering a wonderful view of the sea and mountains. It is not big, there is a TV, a refrigerator, a tea set, slippers, a bathroom, towels, a hairdryer, a safe, air conditioning, and a balcony with a clothes dryer. Wi-Fi signal is good and fast throughout the hotel. The food is tasty but monotonous: chicken, fish, meat, meatballs, vegetables, fruits, sweets, cola, tea, cappuccino, tequila, gin, local vodka, wine, beer. No one will remain hungry. There is no animation. The beach is not far, 5-10 minutes leisurely. Those who find it difficult can use a free minibus that takes them to the beach. The sea is magnificent, the water is clean and transparent. The beach is sandy, the entrance to the sea is gentle, no coral is required, no sea urchins. The hotel has its own sun loungers and umbrellas. On the beach there are changing cabins, showers, and taps for washing your feet from sand. Beach towels are provided against a deposit of five euros. There are many beautiful bays and beaches nearby. You can walk through the olive grove to the village of Plakias, where there is a promenade, many taverns and restaurants, supermarkets and souvenir shops. A small yacht runs from the hotel beach to Preveli Beach, Marmara Beach, Loutro. I really enjoyed my holiday here, the sea is gorgeous, the nature is amazing, there is something to see and places to take a walk. We visited Crete at the end of August 2021. The hotel is small but has everything needed: - All inclusive (meals three times per day + free drinks like in Turkish/Egypt hotels) + you could order a pack with you - Free Wi-Fi in the room - Parking zone - Great sea shore in 7-10 minutes far from the hotel (+transfers to the beach from the hotel) - A small pool (but never tried one) - There also a couple of great restaurants on Damnoni beach
There were some cons: - Hotel is a bit far from the airport - Strange smell in the bathroom - You need to get up early so you can have more variety for the breakfast :)
All of that could make you stay calm and peaceful. But if you want to visit other parts of the island you could take a few tips below.
There is a bus station in Plakias (20-25 minutes far from the hotel) - you could get to north island from there. And there is Preveli not far from the hotel (you could get round trip ticket on a boat for €15 from Damnoni beach).
It’s more convenient to discover island with a car (there is car rent not far from the Damnoni beach or you can do it directly from the hotel). That could upgrade you trip experience to whole new level!
Crete is great island with delicious food and interesting places to visit (like Kournas lake or Episkopi beach). The north part of the island is more lively and active with beautiful big beaches while the south one is more quiet and calm with a small cozy bays.

We rested at the Sokol Resort for 19 nights, in July 2024.
