We spent one week at Castelwood in July 2021 with our 2 kids. The location is excellent to explore the Dordogne. The wooden cabins are cleverly designed, provide two large bedrooms, a proper kitchen and a balcony (terrace). The pool was excellent for both kids and adults. Other things that we enjoyed in the park: Fresh bread in the morning, the BBQ's, the organized drink on Sunday, a walk with a local guide and the public picknick tables. The park is clean, well organized and the owners are friendly. Highly recommended !
The perfect place to spend a relaxing holiday. The site is clean and well run and the owners are very helpful. The accommodation was spacious, clean and well equipped. There are so many places to visit in this truly stunning area and Castlewood is the perfect place to stay.
We have just returned from a lovely holiday at Castelwood. This is a very special place to stay for a holiday. It lived up to our expectations, all that is promised on the website and in the reviews. A small site located in the woods, with peaceful surroundings and lovely facilities for a young family. Customer service and hospitality by the hosts is outstanding, their welcome and availability for help is very reassuring, especially if you are new to France and to the area. The cabin is simple but very well thought through. The beds are very comfortable! Although if you like a proper double bed you won't get it here - it's two beds joined together, two mattresses and two sets of bed linen! The mezzanine level is open of course to the kitchen and lounge area, so if your kids need no distractions going to sleep they'll be better in the downstairs bedroom. Although we found it surprisingly dark up there and our kids got to sleep no problem while we had a quiet drink or read a book once we'd put them to bed, even when we had the lounge lighting on in the evening. The cabins are mostly placed within the shade of trees which keeps them as cool as possible in the summer, so even after really hot days, we were comfortable sleeping. The only downside of this is that they are quite dark inside with the need for lights on even during daytime. The veranda is covered to provide shade (and a good drying area for wet washing). There isn't however anywhere on the veranda or next to the cabins which allows for lying in the sun, you really have to go to the pool for that. They are well placed on the site for privacy and no feelings of being overlooked. The shower has a plentyful supply of hot water at all times. Sensibly the shower room and toilet are in separate rooms, being only one of each. The cooker is a free standing gas cooker and oven (no grill), there is also a microwave. Found everything we needed to cook basic meals. Large fridge, with ice box compartment. Nearest supermarket is an Intermarche in Villerreal about 15 mins away, good size, well stocked. Dishwasher with a couple of tablets supplied to get you started. The shared washing facilities are very convenient, modern washing machines and tumble dryer with powder supplied (due to environmental considerations). Thankfully no coins needed for operation, must note down usage on a form and pay at the end.…
This was the perfect place to get away from it all but also be close to beautiful castles and villages. The chalet itself was very well equipped with all the plates and cutlery etc you could need and it was clean and comfortable. It was a little too dark inside for our liking but was otherwise very pleasant. The kids loved the playground and the games room and I’m sure they would have enjoyed the little pool had we had better weather.
Hidden in the woods in a lovely part of the countryside next to Château de Biron. The cabins are clean and comfortable with everything you need for self catering and lots of other facilities on site. The hosts are very helpful and well organised. We thoroughly enjoyed our break and would return.
We stayed for two nights in late October. As we were travelling by bicycle it was great to stay in their lovely chalets and get out of the rain. Well stocked, warm, new cabins with plenty of hot water and delicious bread and croissants delivered to our door!! What a great stay.
If you are visiting this area, stay in these lovely chalets, the owners are great, very welcoming and friendly, the chalets are bright, spacious, clean and have everything you need. Added bonus is fresh bread and pastries cooked on site were delicious. Not a massive site which is nice with couple of swimming pools, book early as this is s special place!
Stayed for two weeks and everyone had an excellent time. Kids loved playing in the pool, collecting the daily croissants and taking part in the extra craft sessions. Location was ideal, close to Chateaux Biron, the 'bastide' towns, castles and gardens and the holiday flew by! Ian, Maaike and family were great hosts and really helpful and definitely one to revisit.
You think there's a catch here because it's so reasonably priced? There isn't. Don't hesitate. Book now. You can get to all the places you should visit by car from this base. Self catering but part of a community if you want to be. Watching European football here in the communal TV area was a great experience. The owners are fantastic. Leave you be but you know that if you needed them they would be there. Cannot fault it.
Lovely setting very close to grand Biron Chateaux. Quiet peaceful secluded, excellent facilities with great pool and kids play, outdoor bbqs. Owners are really friendly and professional. A little distance from the dordogne valley and Castelnord but lovely market towns close by. Lasceaux a must to see.
