Like other reviewers have mentioned, we also stayed when there was a construction going on in the lobby, we were told prior to our arrival so no big deal. I did not hear any noise nor smell anything weird during my stay though. We wanted absolutely minimum interaction with anyone during our trip, so unfortunately can't comment too much on the service. However, front desk & housekeeping staffs have been helpful when we have some questions in the area and asked for new towels etc. We requested no housekeeping service during our stay. I've contacted concierge prior to the stay on local activities & restaurant recommendations, they're very prompt in their response and have excellent dining recommendations in the area. We used the gym during our stay and felt very safe. Everything was individually packaged and I appreciate the effort. My dog was with me on this trip, the hotel is extremely dog-friendly, thank you, there's nice touch of pet amenity including toys & cookies. Couple of issues that I noticed - There's a resort fee charged each day, but there was no free parking provided, sounds pretty weird for a luxury hotel - Went to the pool area early in the morning, and the towels on the chair doesn't look like they've been cleaned

Hotel was lovely although part of it was undergoing renovation. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Lovely bathrooms and amenities. Very clean! Loved the ambiance in the Mountain Village and the free gondola that went up the mountain or down into town.

To start with the positives, the location at the base of the Mountain Village is great. Most everything else disappoints for the price. Warning - do not come until they repair the intense sewage smell at the hotel. It is unbearable and management did nothing to proactively warm guests about it. Unethical in my view. If your hotel smells like sewage then you should warn guests in advance. The service was also laughably bad - we called for our car to be brought up and after waiting 30 mins with no valet, the front desk admitted “we forgot to tell the valet.” We were also told there was a s’mores event but when we arrived there was no hotel staff there. The front desk then said “we don’t know exactly why no one is there.” Embarrassing for a purported luxury hotel. It aspires to be a luxury experience but does not come close to delivering.

Dear 77upintheair My sincerest apologies that your visit to our resort was impacted by the odor problem. The problem was caused by a renovation occurring in one of the area units not owned by the resort. The contractor inadvertently cut a pipe that contained glycol which subsequently leaked into some of the shared drains. Our teams responded as quickly as possible employing outside resources to ensure the environmentally safe cleaning of these drains. The areas have been thoroughly cleaned and we have the added an additional waste line vent to avoid any reoccurrence of the smell intrusion into the building. We do not anticipate any further problems related to this issue. Sincerely,

Had they been honest enough to tell us that the place was under renovation, we wouldn’t have stayed here. If you like the sound of jackhammers then you have found the right place! You can’t even get a cup of coffee at this place. Think twice before booking

Dear Lgreen111, We have begun the transformation of the Madeline, and have posted notices on both our website and additional information in our reservation confirmations. After an initial period of demolition in August, we anticipate that the remainder of the work will be much less intrusive. We hope that you will allow us the opportunity to win your trust and return next season when the enhancements are complete. Sincerely,

Traveling through town, we sought out an upscale hotel and selected this hotel largely because it was relatively pricey and we wanted a luxury experience after staying in a few highway hotels. While our room was comfortable, the overall experience wasn't what we expected for the money. The room was showing its age, and the furnishings are a bit beat up. The lobby was closed for renovations, which added to the reduced experience. A temporary check-in desk was set up in what is essentially a hallway. If we knew this, we would not have booked since we learned long ago to not stay at hotels while under renovation. On a more positive note, we had a room service dinner and breakfast, both of which were excellently prepared, as we would expect from an upscale hotel. And the valet staff was outstanding, even though twice when we wanted to tip them, they disappeared before we could pull out some cash...clearly they were not in it just for the tips, as in many hotels where the valets stand around waiting for tips. So if you want to tip here, move fast!

Dear ValVil, Thank you for your review. While the enhancements of the first floor are underway, the guest rooms will also receive a beautiful new redesign. The guest room transformation will begin after our fall closure in mid October. The transformation of the resort is scheduled to be complete by the 2020 holiday season. We do hope that you will return to the Madeline and allow us the opportunity to provide the expereince you desired. Sincerely,
