My family stayed at Monteverdi Tuscany, located in the gorgeous mountains of Tuscany, from 12/26/19 to 1/3/20. We stayed in the 3 bedroom stand alone villa called Villa Amiata. The Villa was beautiful and consisted of 2 large bedrooms on the ground floor, a large bedroom below the ground floor with its own entrance and a full kitchen/living room on the top level which also consisted of a balcony that overlooked the beautiful mountains of Tuscany. The views from the Villa were breathtaking. I would highly recommend the Villa as an alternative to individual rooms. The staff at Monteverde Tuscany were outstanding and five star. They were professional, friendly, funny and always there to make our stay perfect. The concierge staff, Jonathan, Alessandro and Mireia, were all amazing and wonderful. I can't say enough about these individuals. EACH one of these people were absolutely fantastic but I have to specifically mention Mireia. She was exceptional and made our stay as easy as possible for us. She arranged our drivers, reservations at restaurants and tours of vineyards. Everything she did for us was just perfect. We took a cooking class with chef Roberto which was fantastic. We made the pasta (with his help) and he made everything else that made the paste delicious when we ate it. I would highly recommend the cooking class. Gabriela (in charge of food/beverage and always in the shadows making sure everything was just right and perfect) was also outstanding and made our stay wonderful. An amazing person who was always willing to spend time with us and talk. The waiters/waitresses at the restaurant that is on site at Monteverde Tuscany (called Oreade) were also outstanding, engaging and a pleasure. The food at Oreade was five star as was the service. The pool in the spa was also amazing and a must try. Also, Jake (back in Ohio), who answered all of our numerous questions when we were deciding where to stay in Italy, was fantastic. If you want heaven on earth, you must stay at Monteverdi Tuscany.

If the rolling hills of Tuscany’s Val D’Orcia are not beautiful enough, when you arrive at Monteverdi it takes your breath away. The property is beautiful! The hotel is actually an old hilltop village with a few local residents still on living on property. The restoration of the grounds was done beautifully. The rooms are lovely and each unique. The staff was amazing from check in to check out and there are so many activities available; hiking, horseback riding, cooking classes, wine tasting, and guided tours of nearby towns. The best though is the view and the many spaces on the property where you can sit and enjoy them. I highly recommend Monteverdi!

We experienced the Artist in Residence events at Monteverdi featuring Grammy Award Winner Steve Tyrell and his superb band performing standards from the great American songbook. Steve's performances were enriched by the Monteverdi venue in the 14th Century Romanesque Church of Chiesa di Sant' Andrea overlooking the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Church is just a few steps from your individually decorated and sited rooms in the several medieval buildings that make up Monteverdi, embedded in the historic mountaintop village of Castiglioncello del Trinoro that is being brought back to life by the Monteverdi experience featuring world class performances by Steve Tyrell and others. During the Middle Ages the Church provided sanctuary for pilgrims on the road from Rome to Canterbury. Walking around the village grounds offers you insight into the Tuscan lifestyle in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. One of the many pleasures is an archaeological dig within the grounds of Monteverdi with Etruscan foundations that pre-date the rise of Rome, and walls and structures from the Middle Ages and Renaissance built upon those early foundations. The Library Bar provides a warm inviting sit-down for sharing superb Tuscan wines with new friends and Steve and the band. A few steps away facing the Church across the courtyard is the Enoteca wine bar offering 32 wines by the glass and many more bottles, as well as light appetizers. The view from the Enoteca mountaintop courtyard is Tuscany at its best, softly rolling hillsides, vinyards, groves of olive trees and countryside villas. The full service restaurant Oreade is led by Chef Giancarla Bodoni who prepared wonderful meals for our group of Steve Tyrell Monteverdi pilgrims throughout the several days we were there. Monteverdi offers a romantic setting atop an historic Tuscan mountain village being brought back to life, food and wines enhance the joy of Tuscany, a staff at Monteverdi who are dedicated to your enjoyment, and for us the pleasure of spending time with Steve Tyrell and his band members and their guests during the days and evenings between performances for our small group. The Monteverdi team and Steve Tyrell showed us the heart of Tuscany at Monteverdi.

The hotel is in a very small "village" (which seemed to us mostly comprised the hotel). Its off the beaten path. Very quite and beautiful views from the hotel down to the valley. Great bar terrace to enjoy a drink before dinner. Restaurant is excellent serving fresh produce. Our room (Village Suite) which we upgraded for more space was nicely appointed with modern finishes but in a 14th Century building. Lots of character. Pool is nice (not heated) but small. Spa is very nice and would recommend (and we are not spa folks). We (separately) booked transfer by car from Rome airport and took 2 hours 15 mins. to arrive at hotel on a Sunday. Pleasant drive. If you want easy access to Florence or other sites perhaps not best for you. But if you want a serene Tuscan immersive experience Monteverdi will not disappoint. Its a pretty cool place.

My wife and I traveled to Monteverdi for a 4 day Artist in Residence program with the artist Steve Tyrell. I find it hard to explain how wonderful it was. The Monteverdi property and staff are 5+ stars at every turn. Their attention to detail, attentiveness to guests and the property have to be experienced to be fully appreciated.
