Wow! We travelled to Yatama as a family of 6 in December 2020 and we loved every second! Expect the real Costa Rica, this is for off the beaten track, beautiful rain forest adventures. Once you've experienced the journey to Yatama, a 40 minute off road adrenalin drive you won't want to leave! We stayed 3 nights and had Yamata almost to ourselves thanks to Covid. Pedro, the owner was incredibly nice, kind and interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed his company and hearing his amazing stories of his Yatama adventures which he was keen to share and rub his love of the rainforest off onto his guests. He and his core team of Luis (guide) and Alma (Cook) looked after us beautifully - Luis providing incredible guided treks and Alma tables full of effortlessly cooked food. A big thank you from us, you made our trip to Costa Rica and we very much hope to return one day - we have the excuse of checking up on our trees that we helped to plant! Until then Pura Vida Yatama...…
Everything was perfect for me ! You will live an experience somehow back to the roots. The lodges are really nice and right in the middle of the nature, so you can feel at the closest of your surroundings (monkeys, birds, parrots sounds to wake you up ;) The tours were great and you can see a lot of animals either during the day or at night. Myself, I had a "premium" experience as I was the only guest at that time. But it was great to enjoy the nature with Pedro, Luis and Yuri :) On top of that the food was great and you also have time to chill and relax after long hiking. Amazing experience overall. Thanks to all the staff ! Vincent (cheers from France / US)
We enjoyed 2 days at this rainforest lodge. Yes it did rain but not all the time! And that’s part of the experience. Pedro made us very welcome. We enjoyed a mid morning trek through the rainforest - quite challenging terrain - take water. Saw various beautiful birds, butterflies, and a small anteater came into the lodge grounds close up. Alba’s cooking was wonderful homely food, which we enjoyed to the sounds of traditional jazz in the background which though not a jazz fan, really complimented the natural and stripped back vibe. If you fancy a truly natural rainforest experience I highly recommend this. We drove our rental 4x4 half way from Horquetes to the meet point. That was an interesting! Drive - but very do-able with patience.
Pedro and Yatama Ecolodge deserve many accolades for excellence in conservation, communication, cooking, hikes (don't miss the night hikes!), and overall wonderfulness. I loved my four day stay; wish it could have been longer. Thank you to Pedro, Luis, and Alba for treating me like royalty! Everything was exquisite!
It´s a place with a fairly "challenging" road leading to it, so under ANY circumstances don´t try it with a regular car and even some 4 WD have problems. We had a wonderful cabin in the rainforest, two bedrooms, large living room. There is electricity from solar cells. The food is prepared is the central building; it´s freshly cooked and very tasty. The highlight is the owner Pedro, who is taking care of everything, but especially offering the morning/day/evening walk helping to spot the wildlife. This we liked VERY much.
