Planning our Costa Rica vacation, our original plan was to drive from Manzanillo to Arenal, but that was about 6 hours and so we were looking for a place in between, and so to our great fortune we found this place. Oddly, trip advisor and booking.com both said that no cabins were available for the dates we wanted, but we... More

If you want an authentic, quiet, rural experience in Costa Rica, this family farm/preserve is the answer. We ventured to this off-the-tourist circuit location for a unique birding experience. Albergue El Socorro is part of the Costa Rica Bird Route (birding trail website featuring 12 ecotourism sites) in the San Juan-La Selva Biological Corridor. Spectacular drive to the property through... More

I really don't know where to start or what to say different than everyone else....my son and I thoroughly enjoyed a 4 day stay here and could have stayed for weeks! The property is paradise.... Every turn of your head offers another glorious view! There are several trails that lead to secret, private waterfalls that you can swim in.... More... More

Excellent hosts (kind, helpfull, great cookers, know everything about nature and share trips and waterfalls with you, and even their farming activities). Difficult to find if you don't have a map, wifi bad there, but the rest is excellent ! (rooms, cleaning, food, nature, people etc). I hardly recommand. Thanks to José and his great wife.

This is what people think they are coming to Costa Rica for if they want an authentic natural experience. Too often they are hustled to a commercialized tourist destination. The farm experience and trails are what you should come here for. Jose and his family work hard to make your stay comfortable and an authentic Tico experience. We chose one... More

We had a warm welcome by the lovely family who owns the farm. We saw some cows, horses, goats and dogs, and chickens.. The cabins are basic but so charming, private and very clean. Together with a member of the family, we made some walking tours in the secondary forest and we had a swim in the river. The food... More

We (family of five) stayed two nights at Socorro. I can't say enough about the hospitality we received from Don José and his wife Maria Isabel. She is an amazing cook and each meal (included in the overall price) was wonderful. José was equally wonderful, especially with our kids. He could tell we were hikers and liked adventure; he didn't... More

My friend and I stayed for 9 nights at this wonderful property at 1000 metres above sea level on the Carribean slope. With lovely gardens, 175 hectares of secondary and primary pre-montane rainforest with walking trails, and beautiful rural landscape as well, this farmstay is very special. Hosts Jose and Maria are very hospitable despite their lack of English (Our... More

It's been a little over a week since we stayed with at Albergue el Socorro (April 10--13). My husband and I took our 2 daughter ages 9 and 11 to stay there for 3 days and 3 nights. The bottom line: this is the experience of a life time--you will not find a more wonderful place to visit in all... More

We stayed at three elevations during our trip to Costa Rica (first two weeks of March). At 1000 meters, this was our favorite. We could walk around in short sleeves with a cool breeze and little humidity. Evenings cooled down and were perfect for sleeping. Few bugs this time of year. It rained lightly to moderately for two hours each... More
