Beaches Ocho Rios garners appreciation for its spotless common areas and engaging beachfront location, though some guests raise concerns about dated aspects and cleanliness in certain spots. While the vibrant atmosphere is a hit for many, others suggest it can be overly noisy. The resort's amenities offer fun in the sun but may benefit from rejuvenation.
Room conditions have received criticism for not matching expectations, which also reflects in guests' views on value for money. Service experiences at the hotel are inconsistent, ranging from commendable to less than satisfactory.

This was our second visit to Beaches Ocho Rios with our three teenage grandkids. We are Sandalcoholics, having visited Sandals resorts in Jamaica since 1998. This was by far our best vacation ever. First off, thank you to Michael McHugh from Dream Makers Vacation Services for taking care of every detail and being in constant touch with us throughout our time there to make sure everything was just as we wanted it.
We arrived around 235 PM and were greeted by Dwight the Hotel Manager and Naomi from the Loyalty office, as well as Burt and Ernie! Our room was ready so we were taken there immediately so we had a good part of our first day to enjoy the resort.
What set this apart from other trips was the staff there. They are truly outstanding and we did not come across any team member who was unhelpful or unfriendly. The grands met up with a number of other young people so their day was filled with the water park, banana boat, sailing, snorkleing and plenty of fruity drinks!
Due to the low occupancy the restaurants were open on a staggered schedule so we were unable to enjoy Out of the Blue which was only offered on Thursday evening. We did not have one meal we were not happy with. Bayside was our go to for breakfast and lunch and we always found something to our liking. Thanks to Tamara ( omelet chef), Shantel, Ardian, and special thanks to Deivel and Ojay (two servers who brightened our day everyday with their sunny smiles and great conversation).
The evening entertainment was wonderful and we were amazed at the talent in the Entertainment Staff.
Our room (HOVK) was spacious, clean and had a great view of the stage and sea. Housekeeping took great care of us. The resort overall is well kept, clean and the grounds immaculate. Yes it is an older resort but I saw no evidence of lack of upkeep.
I want to mention some standout team members who made our trip memorable. Conwae at the main pool and the water park, Nickell, Tamara, Jaevon and Fitzroy at the Bayside Bar, Shanice in Loyalty, DJ in Concierge, Tanera and Duane in Photo, and Shanique in the Gift Shop. A special shoutout to Akeem of the Entertainment Staff. He took a special interest in my grands and made sure they were entertained and well taken care of. See you next year, BOR!

First of all, the staff at both resorts are great, it is obvious they take pride in their work and we had no concerns. I will be writing another post to name a few who were exceptional. Beaches Negril felt tropical, like you were nestled on an island with a magnificent beach. It is low lying, you probably have to walk up 3 steps total when walking around the resort from beach to pool to restaurants and bars. The beach is long and the waters are calm, with very large swimming areas with clear waters and soft sand. Beaches Ochos Rios felt like a resort with access to a beach, a small beach with small swimming areas with somewhat clear waters and soft sand. Having said that, we never had any trouble finding chairs on the beach at either resort. Ochos Rios is a three story resort, so there are lots of steps (or a central elevator) when getting from one place to another. I know there are different levels of accommodations at both resorts but If you think you are staying anywhere near the beach at Ochos Rios, check the details. Our room was at the very back of the resort, not in any of the rooms facing the beach. We had no complaints but I’m sure our stay was very different than the people with an ocean view room. In Negril, you may not have an ocean view room but it is much closer to the beach than the cheapest rooms at Ochos Rios. If you are choosing one of the cheaper rooms at Ochos Rios ask for a top level room and you might see the sea. When it comes to food and dining, even though Negril feels smaller there are more dining options, or at least more food choices. The bbq at Negril has self serve food, at Ochos Rios you have to ask to be served. You have to ask for the cones to get ice cream, you have to ask for a cup to get fountain drinks. One of the best things about beaches Negril is the option to have breakfast at Stewfish, a small little outdoor restaurant right on the beach. Ochos Rios only has the buffet option for breakfast. Both places have the French cafe where most people know to go for crepes and coffee but Ochos Rios doesn’t have the other dessert options like hard ice cream, cakes and pastries. Again, you can get those only at the buffet. Not sure which resort is older but you can hear your neighbours pretty easily at Ochos Rios. I don’t remember hearing a thing while in Negril. There could be a price difference for the same week at the two resorts (ie Beaches Negril is more expensive, and I can see why) but if you are trying to decide which resort is better, I have no hesitation in suggesting Beaches Negril.

This was our 6th returning stay at Beaches Ocho Rios and our 11th vacation to a Beaches property.
We stayed from Dec.29-Jan.5th.
Overall, this is a good property which we mostly continue to enjoy.
The beach is small but the resort has done a good job in getting rid of most of the sea-weed.
There are a number of water sports available and a snorkeling excursion (all included).
The main pool and pool bar are fun but the bar is typically understaffed with often only 1 server.
The water park slides are a blast and are one of the main attractions of this property.
The rooms are quite spacious and most rooms appear to have a decent view of the ocean.
We enjoyed the restaurants, including Neptune’s, The Venetian and The French Restaurant for dinners.
The lamb chops at the French Restaurant were particularly good.
The lunch options are more limited and some additional options would be welcome.
The breakfast buffet is the only choice and is fine in it’s offerings.
A few negatives to mention would be that the friendliness of the staff has definitely declined over our 6 visits. The bartenders are not overly friendly and the water park staff seem extremely disinterested.
The staff at Beaches Negril were far more outgoing and friendly.
The one exception was the camp leader (aka Tom Cruis) for the tweens- the kids had a blast under his watch.
The other disappointment for our family was the all but invisible and sometimes indifferent treatment by the loyalty staff at this Beaches property.
We have stayed 90 nights at the 3 Beaches resorts and there seemed little appreciation by the loyalty team.
We found the opposite to be true at the Negril Beaches property where the loyalty staff went out of their way to be welcoming both upon our arrival and throughout our stay.
Overall, our family do enjoy this resort and hope for a few improvements on the above should we return.

After a pandemic year I was looking forward to a nice vacation with family. Well we picked the wrong Resort.
The resort did not push it's mask rules.
70% of its staff was NOT pleasant, the wait for restaurants in the evening was 1 to 2 hr wait. We stayed in one if the beachfront rooms and the elevator did NOT work our entire stay. (5 nights) which meant I had to climb 4 flights of stairs everyday all day, with my bad knee. The toilet in our beachfront room required service 3 days in a row. The water ran all day and all night. The resort NEVER had Cold bottles of water at any location on the beach. The shuttle service the hotel used to take us back to the airport didn't inforce it's mask rule. It was a small van with 12 people on it & the last 2 rows on van was for luggage. Which meant we was sitting on top of one another, with 8 people who didn't have a mask on 😡
I believe this Beaches Resort Opened too early. The amount of money we spent on this vacation was for a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ resort but in actuality it is a ⭐⭐ resort.
I've stayed at other Beaches/Sandals resort & this experience has been the worse in all my travel.

This was my first vacation with my little one who is 20 months old and as a single parent I was concerned to say the least. I chose Beaches primarily because of the Sesame Street characters which my son is obsessed with. From the moment we arrived we we greeted offered a cold beverage and the check in process was quick and friendly. The food was great, the grounds beautifully maintained but most importantly the staff was AMAZING. I have never had better service. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Every morning Paul and Jessie would greet us and give my little one a high five which he loves also open doors for us so I could push his stroller through. The ladies at the restaurants were always friendly and very kind with my son a special thank you to Odessia, Ofelia, Moyagay and Staci for the above and beyond service. Thank you to the ladies at the kids camp who made my son's stay there happy and comfortable I wish I could remember all their names but i would like to say a special thank you to Naharie and Kadeine. Thank you to Tah-Je and Orville who always greeted my little one with a high five and put a smile on his face. Andrew the lifeguard at the kids pool was very kind and patient with my little guy. There was another lifeguard at the beach who came over when my son was having a meltdown because he wanted to go up and down the stairs and with such patience calmed him down and put a smile on his face unfortunately I cannot recall his name. I highly recommend this resort for families especially those with little ones I couldn't have imagined better service. For those who mention stairs the resort is fully accessible with a stroller we did not have any issues getting anywhere with a stroller. We did the Sesame Street Breakfast, Photo Shoot and Tuck in with Elmo all of which I highly recommend although it is extra the price is reasonable and the memories will last a lifetime. Thank you again to the staff at Beaches Ocho Rios you truly made this vacation special for us.

We spent 8 days at Beaches Ocho Rios just before all the Covid-19 stuff started in Canada. The resort property was gorgeous as always ( this was our 4th time to this property). The staff was all super helpful and very hardworking. Shout out to Kado @ Neptunes. Fantastic server and very fun. And also the teen and tween coordinators Rushane and Alex. So much energy and fun loving guys. We also love seeing Orville each time we go. He is great with the kids and my son was super happy to win simon says this year! He has been trying for three years now! LOL. The whole staff here works very hard, always happy and smiling. They spent a lot of extra time cleaning the washrooms and public areas to help keep everyone safe. Can't wait till we get to see all of our Jamaican family again!

We had a disappointing check in as we were not assigned the room we had paid for a year in advance. They tried to change us to a lower category room and convince us it was the same. Ultimately we switched rooms our second day, though still not the room we booked. I found the front desk staff to be less than helpful with this endeavour. They seemed as though my request to have what I paid for a bit indulgent. For the record, we booked this room while AT this resort the year before...
The good news is that everything else following this unpleasant start to the trip was outstanding. As mentioned, this was our second time at this resort. My kids described this trip as even better than the first visit.
The staff were amazing, especially Tom Cruise and Alex. Oh the tears that my kids shed the night before we left... These guys work so hard and really make everyone feel special. I don’t know how they continuously have such a wonderful attitude and endless energy!!
Now, unfortunately, our visit fell during the time that Coronavirus was deemed a pandemic. We noticed extra cleaning, lots of hand sanitizers and efforts made by staff to distance families from other guests whenever possible. The resort is now closed because of the virus, and frankly as the number of guests dwindled during the week, this was most definitely foreseeable. There were hushed meetings among staff and a few brave individuals who confided in us that they were worried. Despite these growing concerns, we were treated with such respect and kindness. My kids will likely know how difficult it must have been for everyone to keep smiling and fulfilling our vacation dreams while simultaneous stressing about their futures.
We have booked to go back to Turks for a change, however, I don’t think my kids would ever forgive me if we didn’t return to Ocho Rios again sometime soon. To all the fantastic staff at this wonderful resort, if you are reading this, thank you for all that you do. This too shall pass, and we will all be back again soon. Thinking of you all and hoping you are all doing well.

Our family traveled to Beaches Ocho Rios in August 2021 to celebrate our Grandma's beach wedding.
Wedding: The wedding planning process before the trip was smooth and easy. The coordinator walked us through the decor, the food, and everything in between so we could relax once on property. Everything was executed wonderfully and I was impressed with the staff who made it all happen.
Resort: The 4 stars comes from the wear and tear of the resort. There is a lot of deferred maintenance and everything is getting old, cracked, warped, and outdated. There is also something to be said about the stairs for anyone who is worried about excessive climbing on their vacation. Our family loved the set up and feel that Beaches did an excellent job working with the space that they had, but the stairs should be mentioned for those who may not. Going from the Penthouse to the beach had to be planned as it was quite the hike!!
Diving: The diving and water center was absolutely top notch and we had nothing but wonderful experiences. Huge shout out to Dive Master Oshane (Muscles) as he showed us some really wonderful things underwater and was such a fun person to be around!! He took care of everything and allowed us to just enjoy the diving. Also, lifeguard Narda is a ton of fun and she took good care of us on our private boat excursion that we booked.
Penthouse: The room is located at the very tip of the resort with a panoramic view of the island. It boasts plenty of space and has an enormous bathroom. The cleaning staff were top notch and took good care of us to ensure we always had everything that we needed.
Food: This resort does have less restaurants than other Beaches resorts, but they do well with the smaller space. Each restaurant had wonderful food and everything was prepared perfectly as per Beaches style.
Pool: The pool area and entertainment was fun and exciting pretty much at all times. There was always something fun and exciting going on. I do wish the towels could be kept up with a little more as they always seemed out of them by early morning.
Beach: The beach area is small but very well maintained. It boasts clear waters and white sand, which is what everyone wants! You can walk over to the east of the Dive Center and there is a quiet beach that you can visit that is away from all the crowds. This is also where the beach cabanas are, which you can rent for an extra charge. I recommend doing this once as it is a nice experience.
Photos: The photographers at this Beaches are top notch! We were able to capture stunning photos and were very pleased with how they turned out.
Overall, we had a wonderful time at Beaches Ocho Rios. The staff were incredibly friendly and were very good at their jobs. It is the smallest resort out of Negril and Turks and Caicos, but that may appeal to those seeking a smaller location. I would recommend this vacation to all!

Serious safety incident
We have vacationed at Several Sandal Resorts, but this experience left us disappointed. The quality is nowhere near what you expect from Sandals and for the Cost. The buildings were in poor condition, paint, rotten wood, dirty. Room Service plates pilled in hallways for hours, empty flower planters and run down in general. The Service also left us with a bad taste in our mouth. Concierge Service is worthless, once they showed us our room, they never checked in on us all week, nor when we called for help were they helpful. We called for bottled water for the room, and we are still waiting. The housekeeping wanted to clean our room at 7:30 in the am, and turn down our beds at 5:30-6 when we were preparing for dinner. The food was hit or miss, and on the last night of our trip our teenage children were with a group and two of the girls in the group were approached in the ladies room by a male employee who exposed himself to them. Overall, not worth the money and not as safe of a resort you would hope for.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review of Beaches Ocho Rios. We are sorry to note that you did not enjoy your stay overall and extend our heartfelt apologies for the experience described. Being a family resort, incidents of this nature are always taken very seriously as the safety and security of all of our guests and staff is paramount. We do our best to put preventative measures in place to ensure that our visitors and team have a safe and fun environment including around the clock security for the entire property and close monitoring within all public areas. Once a report of this nature is made, our team must immediately turn the matter over to the local authorities for appropriate handling as per procedure and in accordance to the law. Full cooperation is always provided to the police for a thorough investigation to be conducted and while the incident did not happen as described in your review, we do not condone any such behavior that would have any guest feeling unsafe or uncomfortable. The employee in question has since been dismissed following our investigation and we sincerely regret that anyone was made to feel like their vacation was compromised. We are happy to note that you have since remained in contact with our post-travel team and hope that in spite of the sentiments share, you may consider Beaches Resorts again when planning future Caribbean travel.

The resort is in a secluded area so a bit difficult to get to other areas. Transport from airport efficient, bought the MoBay package that expedites the customs process with a private lounge while waiting for the resort shuttle. Champagne greeting at resort, had a bit of trouble getting room moved to a different location as we were put exactly where I had previously requested not to be. They wanted a large upcharge to move to a room that was priced the same as the one we had online. Staff were very friendly and eager to please. Resort was very pretty and clean. Food was great, drinks better than average and if the bartender wasnt familiar with a request, they did their best to figure it out. Entertainment was fair. The catamaran excursion was nice, efficient and fairly priced. Nice beach. not much in the way of watersports. All in all had a great time with friends. I would recommend this resort if you dont mind being around children.

I believe the gym was open 24/7, but I can't be sure. Check the webiste.
The sofa bed is actually a trundle style. The bottom pulls out and is made up with just a sheet. The top is just the couch. Once you remove the back cushions it is extra wide, and there is a blanket and bed pillows in the closet. You can always request an extra blanket too. My 10 and 6 yo olds slept on this setup for 8 nights, no problems. Except fighting over who got to sleep on the top/bottom :)
We did not leave the resort during our visit, and we walked the grounds each night (strolling the beach and the rest of the resort). There are personnel at both ends of the beach making sure no one comes on property. We were not concerned with letting our teenage kids stay out late at night to enjoy the teen club or beach.
Beaches Ocho Rios, unfortunately does not offer room service.
