We drove almost 3 hours to Urspelt, for a "luxurious spa break" and it was the exact opposite. When we arrived, we were told that the package we booked was only for 1 person instead of 2. We checked the website and the package is advertised for two people and even when you search for dates available and select 2 people the packages come up BUT there is a sneaky tactic by the hotel. The price indicated is only for 1 person. To emphasize, you input details for a 2 person stay and are given the price for just one person even if you book a package labelled "bubble of love" which really doesn't scream 1 person. The trick is you must ,before checkout on the website, select the number of people again! Unfortunately, this can be confused for the number of packages that you want because why would you believe that it is referring to number of guests when in fact the package clearly states 2 people. What made this even worse was that when we were saying this to Laura, a receptionist, she told me that this happens regularly! and guest have often been caught out by this and have to pay extra on the day- very scam like. Of course, after driving 3 hrs, we paid the fee... this would be the first annoyance of our trip. After checking in we were eager to have lunch after the long drive, it was approximately 2:30pm. We sat down and asked the waiter for a food menu and he said "why did you come so late, we dont do food now". We were shocked because dinner doesnt start until 6pm, that is a large 4hr window. He offered us a tapas plate which was unfortunately quite poor for 25e, 2 types of meat, 1 cubed cheese, olives and stuffed pepper (quite small portions), we had to ask for more bread because we were utterly starving. Strawberry mojito was not great, it wasn't properly mixed nor was there enough strawberry syrup in it. This was our second negative experience. We moved dinner 2 hrs earlier than intended due to the lack of food available on site. When we arrived at the terrace, there were no staff members to be seen. We seated ourselves and got comfortable (napkins on our lap, moving cutlery etc) and a waiter gave us menus. Shortly after he came back and asked had we booked this specific table and we said no. He then told us that we had an assigned seat, at this point we were becoming very unhappy with our experience. My boyfriend told the waiter that if they are going to insist on a seating arrangement then he should have a member of staff in the courtyard to greet and seat guests instead of us playing musical chairs. The waiters response was shocking "no, you should have asked", I couldnt believe it. We were then sat under a birds nest surrounded by bird poo. This was the 3rd negative experience. The food was great, actually it was fantastic. The only downfall to the meal itself is that there was a huge party of people, approximately 20 or more. They were gathered around the bonfire being extremely loud, not exactly a romantic or a "bubble of love". We went back to the room, which was beautiful and well supplied. However, at approximately 12 am, some of the people from the bonfire were having a party in their room, 2 doors down from us. Shrieking, screaming, singing and being obnoxiously loud, not what you would expect from this "relaxing" establishment. I called reception but there was no answer. When we asked Laura about the spa, she told us that the 120e "voucher" was for spa treatments, however this would also cover entry. I have no interest in massages and therefore my boyfriend booked his for 10am on the day of departure, the same time as their VERY early checkout, anywhere else that I have stayed it has been 11:30am but this probably another scam to get you to pay the 50e extra for "late checkout". We decided to checkout and then both head to the spa, he would get his massage and I would use the amenities. Checkout was appalling with Laura. We were confused as to why we were being charged extra for the massage (dont forget we are already paying 110e extra for the package scam and do not want to be ripped off any further). She explained that we used our 120e "voucher" on spa entry and therefore had to pay another 100e for a massage. We questioned that this was not how she explained it previously. Another point is that when my boyfriend called the spa, he specifically asked "is this included in my package" and the receptionist said yes. Laura continued to argue with us and rudely interrupted my boyfriend many times when he was trying to ask a question or explain. What was even more embarrassing is that an audience of staff members appeared and this was quite intimidating (a man appeared behind Laura, another female receptionist then came and 2 breakfast staff members stood in the doorway), it was also extremely embarrassing that they were stood watching us and in front of other guests. The spa use was terribly explained by Laura and she tried blaming us, saying it was our misunderstanding. However, BOTH of us formed the same understanding from her previous explanation and we are native English speakers. So both reception and the spa misinformed us. Very, very disappointing and left a sour taste in our mouths. We couldn't even enjoy the our second day in the spa with the tension and irritability caused by the staff. Relaxing? absolutely not. In all, we spent 500e on a one night stay with access to a basic spa (yes the water caves are very cool but besides that, it is average and small). We were treated poorly by staff, kept awake by party goers and ripped off. We will never return nor will we recommend this place to anybody.…
Very nice staff, friendly and helpfull. Beautiful, clean room. Breakfast was superb! Nice pool and fantastic bar and garden. Very beautiful castle! We also used the motorbikes from the caslte: very pleasant! At the end, we were sad to leave this nice place.
The only down-side (if applicable) is the restaurant menu but that is simply my limitation of eating less than well done food. Place is gourmet with limited options, but all of them up to par! (Personal taste critic nothing more)
The place is pretty average or what they advertise to be. The food, especially meat, is very poorly coocked. The rooms are OK, but the furniture is pretty beat up, and not in vintage way as intended. The spa and swimming pool are very expensive. There are booking issues, and my reservation was cut short and needed extending. There is no verification of room numbers by the staff of the restaurant, and other guests ordered drinks at my expense. I was able to fix it durich check out, but the staff were reluctant to help.
We spent one night at Chateau d'Urspelt early April 2022. We picked this place on our way to Germany and because it is mentioned as being a Porsche Charging Destination - this is a place where you can charge your electric Porsche. We booked a standard castle room - it is very nice, functional, a bit small. Also, the noise isolation is pretty poor : we were hearing people talking in the room next to ours. From the outside (our room had a window on the castle court) this was also noisy with a sort of 'ambiance' music playing until late night and from early morning. You wouldn't expect this music to play - it removes the magic from the place, and looks like the (stupid) music you hear from elevators in commercial centers ... The bathroom was fine, except something that wasn't working in the shower. The breakfast (included in our rate) was a buffet breakfast - nothing special here : go and help yourself. Disappointing is that there isn't even the coffee serviced at your place - you really have to service everything yourself. The reception desk at arrival was fine - the guy was helping us in the right way. At leave (departure) it wasn't such a good experience : the lady at the desk not even asked us how was our stay ! The restaurant (a gastronomic cuisine) was ... disappointing. Food was very good but we had to wait 45 minutes for someone to take our order and ask what we want for drink ; and we had to wait another 45 minutes to receive the plate. Arrived at 20h30, we left at close to 23h for just starter, main course and desert. We addressed this issue with the staff, and were told that they had staff issues. They said there were sorry and wanted to offer the drinks. Finally we got the coffee (!) for free - value 4 EUR. So, service was poor, really, and deterring the whole experience. Also, for a gastronomic restaurant, it is pretty pack with around 60 tables - that's a lot of people, and not very intimiste experience. The Porsche charger was working fine but here again, below expectations : it was supposed to be a 11 KW one and was finally a 5 KW one ... meaning 2x more time to charge. Fortunately we could charge the battery enough to continue our trip - but someone being there only for the dinner for instance wouldn't have the time to charge. All in all, a disappointing experience / stay. It could have been good but the service is lagging / poor (also, most of the staff members are very very young and look like students ... this may be the reason maybe ?). I am also not sure if the category of 4 stars superior is right to be honest ... I would rather give it a 4 or 3 stars ranking instead.…
We stayed here in '14 for our wedding and wanted to come back for a third time. We were surprised by the new facilities! This hotel is realy the perfect short getaway for a romantic and relaxing moment. Great suite with Nuxe products and romantic bath (could be bigger), best breakfast ever, special spa (reception girl could be more professional), comfy terrace with fireplace, professional staff at the reception, bar and restaurant. I expected more from the menu, not that much choice and small portions. Spa should be included in the price, especially if you have no access to the outside pool. The spa could be more surveilled by the staff because towels and tea cups were everywhere and hot water was empty. It was unfortunate that we couldn't use the outside swimming pool (under construction). In the neighbourhood there's not that much to do but for a short stay it's excellent to hike, to visit the abbey and make a trip with the electric scooter. Not so practical if your battery is dead so you have to watch this constantly but good for the environment! We'll come back for sure ...…
Spa is small and overpriced, bathroom cleanliness is poor, staff was friendly and professional, tasty food. TV set and remote control hard to use. Bed was rather uncomfortable. Air conditioning in the room was not strong enough.
Our stay at the hotel was okay, but not worth it compared to the high price of the room, the restaurant and the spa. We had to wait for half an hour at the restaurant as they could not find our reservation. The room was clean.
I booked for 2 nights but left after 1. There are no kids allowed in the swimming pool. There is no kids club or kids playing room. . No nanny if the parents want to visit the spa. At the breakfast at 10, everything was empty: no french bread, no salmon, no glasses for juice, no eggs, no plates. Only 1 girl to take care for the hole restaurant.
Great location for relaxing stay in nature. Nice food and good comfort. The spa is excellent with a choice of different treatments. The location in the north of Luxembourg is excellent if you are interested in walking and hiking in nature. The hotel is pets friendly
