As we toured the South Island we spent one night and found the facilities to be clean comfortable and exceptional amenities available. We were sorry we only had one night scheduled. There was much to do in the area and the motel facility provided everything we needed to prepare meals, do laundry and even rent free movies. Great place for families too! It exceeded our expectations for a motel in the middle of nowhere. Thank you for the hospitality!

My sisters and I stayed recently and were pleased to find a very clean, comfortable room available for the 3 of us. Only a couple of minutes drive from Haast township and with very easy access from the highway, we really enjoyed our night here. A very welcoming host met us and the amenities were great including the laundry available for guests. We received discount vouchers for one of the businesses offering meals in the evening. Loved the spacing of units and camper vans and the local pukeko who came out to see us.

There aren’t a lot of choices when you get off the beaten path so we were very pleased we didn’t have to settle for less than ideal. Pleasant greeting on arrival and quick registration. Room 13 was lucky with comfortable single beds, up to date very clean bath, and cute kitchenette with coffee/tea selections, milks in the fridge, and just enough utensils for our needs. Great WiFi, quiet surroundings including a couple friendly hens in the parking area. What else could you ask for?

We stayed in an upstairs ensuite king room which was well fitted out and perfect for our requirements. The bed was extra comfy and we slept so well. The bathroom was a good size, the shower was good and the kitchen had a handy plug in cooker which we used to make dinner.

It’s hard to think of this as a holiday park. Just to get in there means driving over several bone-jarring pot-holed dips in the road that do nothing but harm to your caravan or motorhome. It’s a gravel parking lot where you are instructed on where and how to park in the narrow sites. There’s not enough space to put out an awning or to sit outside. But then it’s probably not the sort of place you would want to do that. The toilets and showers are modern and clean – once you find them. The only sign outside is for the disabled bathroom which is locked. To use it, presumably the disabled person has to hobble or wheel themselves the considerable way back to the office and beg for a key. Why do campgrounds persist in making access to disabled facilities so difficult for people who are already mobility challenged? The number of stern, forbidding notices all over the place doesn’t make you feel at all welcome but then neither did the brusque lady at reception. You get to the point where you wonder if even walking around might be ‘strictly prohibited’. This place is OK for a one night stop but we certainly didn’t want to stay longer or come back again.

Me and my partner were taking my parents on a road trip around the South Island when we arrived here. We always help my parents to their rooms to carry their luggage and help them to set up WiFi on their phones as they are in a foreign country and had absolutely no idea where we were! It was 5pm and the reception was already closed even though it said it’s open until 7pm. No big deal, we rang the intercom to speak to someone and after a brief conversation with my parents I heard them say loudly ‘you in the van, you’re not staying here? You can’t use their shower you need to leave’
Absolutely flabbergasted! Number 1 - yes we were in a van but who were they to know if it was a campervan? 2 - we are responsible campers and would never do such a thing. To be accused of it was a bit outrageous, and my parents couldn’t believe the hostilities towards us just because of what our vehicle was, 3 - after asking if we could just help them carry their luggage indoors and we’d leave the van at the entrance they refused so we had to leave.
We even did consider staying the night at the camp ground to be close to my parents before this happened. We weren’t even given a chance to ask for rates etc, but no we decided to pack up and head to our NZMCA site instead.
My parents couldn’t get out fast enough. The next morning they drove to us and ate breakfast in their car rather than stay longer than they needed to.
A little kindness and not jumping to conclusions would be nice. Yes we are in a van, but how could you judge someone from that? You don’t know our circumstances for being in one.

My wife and I and our two daughters spent 1 night at Haast River Motels and Holiday Park.
The upstairs family studio accommodation was spacious and clean and consisted of an open plan living area with a queen bed and 2 single beds. There are also self-catering facilities which are convenient. The beds were comfortable and the views of the surrounding area are pleasant.
Overall, the Motel was an enjoyable and convenient stop-over and we visited a number of scenic attractions including Lake Matheson, Fox Glacier and the Blue Pools.

Haast river motel efficient check in but very matter of fact, here's your key there's your room off you go. WiFi ok but not unlimited. Rooms and bedding comfortable. Basic NZ tv channels. A few places to eat at typically high NZ prices. Haast has a very nice visitors centre with helpful staff. Overall wouldn't bother staying over in haast but would drive the extra 140 km to franz josef where a greater selection of accomodation and eating venues exist.

The place was mostly clean. The rug was a bit gross, but the beds, bathroom and kitchen area were good. The shower was a challenge if you are tall - it has a roof that is not high for tall people. As my title says, not many options though.

The host at he reception desk was very welcoming. We arrived in a camper van so I cannot speak to the condition of the motel.

The Holiday Park was nothing special. Very plain and bare. It’s pretty much a gravel parking lot with camper vans parallel parked beside one another. There was a separate area for rent camping. There’s a children’s playground hat includes a trampoline.

The kitchen is adequate but has limited cooking utensils, although it does have six hours toasters (!). The showers and restrooms are clean and modern.

It was a safe and clean place to spend a night, but not the type of holiday park you’d want to spend a few days at.

Hello Chico, Thank you kindly for your review. That is unfortunate to hear that you did not enjoy the aesthetic of our campground. We try to plant many native trees and bushes while also maintaining space to allow campervans and utilize our grounds. If required we do offer cooking equipment for rent. Due to many utensils going missing we now stock behind reception instead of in the kitchen. We're glad that you overall enjoyed your quick stay with us - we hope guests enjoy their experience with us, but overall make the most of the incredible environment and experiences that Haast itself has to offer!

We do travel extensively & very often rent motorhomes.Having recently returned from the South Island NZ we used a motorhome & DID stay in Haast Top 10 Holiday Park (powered site). The charge was around $26 NZD p/p for 1 night.Considering all the other holiday parks we utilised prior to visiting Haast I would give it 4 to 5 stars out of 10.However this is my personal opinion. However it should suffice for a night's stay. I realise you have a camper van to sleep, however you would STILL need to use on-site power(240 volts) for the van's microwave a/c etc.You could also make use of the bathroom, kitchen facilities if so required. Hope this is helpful to you!Good luck! And lastly & most importantly please do not ignore the local Sandflies especially in the South Island near Milford Sound,Fox & Franz Josef Glaciers!Almost all of us were bitten & devastated by these vicious critters! They do sell sandfly creams BUT you need to ask!!! Bye! Rama Melbourne.
