Parking right outside the door limited tv channels it's so isolated perhaps net flix or something similar would be a good idea. The bed was comfortable and the Asian young woman who checked us in was great and provided excellent service. You can't do much about loud neighbors but everyone seems to have them on holiday and this place is no exception.
Be aware. This place charge $20 for each child. Even the child is only 2 years old. The child policy clearly states that age over 18 is considered adults, so we just booked 2 adults. We stayed the night. There are still stains on bed covers and cups. The carpet looks not clean as well. The table is fixed on the floor and and the small rack which is usually for putting light baggage on is fixed to the wall. This is the first room has got such fixation among hundreds of places that I have stayed in New Zealand. I have to admit that I did s ee similar fixations in hotels in a poor area in China for once like over 20 years ago. But we are actually recommended by one of our friend. So considering the price, I guess it's normal for the facilities to be not that clean and weird. But the highlight is the next morning, the owner came right to our door at about 9:30am and asked us whether we have any children. And we said we had 2. And she started to get rude and said we should pay $20 for each child. And said why we just booked for 2 adults. I told her the places we stayed previously told us just booking for 2 adults would be fine when we traveled down the east coast. Then she said:" I don't care what other motels do, this is my motel and this is my rule. And she told me children even 2 year old would be charged the same price as adults because they would use the same towels, beddings, ect. I told her the 2 year old sleeps in a cot and 4 year old can sleep with her mum. It would be unfair to charge the same price as adults. And we checked the child policy when we booked and it says all children are welcome and age over 18 year old would be considered adults. Then I showed her the page when I booked. Then she said she would not charge our children this time but it was our fault that we didn't tell them we had 2 children when we arrived and insurance and the health and safety thing would be a big problem if an fire or earthquake happened. Then I told her if this is the case then the child policy should be changed on the website and if we knew a 2 year old would be charged $20, we would never book this place. And she said that is possibly the mobile website info is incorrect and we should use the computer to book and she said would definately tell booking.com to change that in no time. But I just checked now, it still hasn't been changed even it's been a few days now. How tricky! Then, when I checked out, she showed me the book.com on her computer and for sure the child policy would be the same as the mobile version, so she didn't say anything about that at all. Instead she showed me the searching box and told me it was my fault that I didn't put 2 children in when i searched. I told her if I did that it would show the price of 4 adults for some places and we thought it wrong, so we just put 2 adults in and check the child policy and I told her I had been doing like this on our driving around NZ trip for 21 days and never ever had a problem. Then she said we had been traveling with my children illegally for 21 days. I will never ever coming back to this place again.…
Really convenient and easy to check in service. The bathrooms were immaculate and always had a clean smell. We loved the wee chicken that followed us round as we pitched our tent. Even though we didn’t meet any staff, we thought it was a wonderful stay
Our room was a good size and there was plenty of parking which was a relief because I was towing a heavy trailer. The heater in our room was a bit noisy. The bed was comfortable and the facilites were good. It was quiet. I got up in the early hours and the night sky was amazing with a clear view of Matariki. If you are interested in astronomy this is a good base. The Hard Antler Restaurant has a courtesy vehicle.
We stayed here for a night on a campervan trip up the coast. Haast as a settlement is quite spread out and this campground feels the same as it’s in the middle of some wetlands/paddocks. We were given a location near the red barn that houses the amenities which were very clean and tidy. One issue was that the light timer system in the toilets/showers appears to be activated by movement and doesn’t account for movement in the shower if you are the only person in the bathroom. Both me and my 8 year old had the lights go out on separate occasions while we were showering which wasn’t very pleasant. We found the tone of the bright yellow signs with instructions a bit grumpy but figure the owners must have had issues with free loaders in the past. Otherwise it was a perfectly good spot for a night. …
It’s hard to think of this as a holiday park. Just to get in there means driving over several bone-jarring pot-holed dips in the road that do nothing but harm to your caravan or motorhome. It’s a gravel parking lot where you are instructed on where and how to park in the narrow sites. There’s not enough space to put out an awning or to sit outside. But then it’s probably not the sort of place you would want to do that. The toilets and showers are modern and clean – once you find them. The only sign outside is for the disabled bathroom which is locked. To use it, presumably the disabled person has to hobble or wheel themselves the considerable way back to the office and beg for a key. Why do campgrounds persist in making access to disabled facilities so difficult for people who are already mobility challenged? The number of stern, forbidding notices all over the place doesn’t make you feel at all welcome but then neither did the brusque lady at reception. You get to the point where you wonder if even walking around might be ‘strictly prohibited’. This place is OK for a one night stop but we certainly didn’t want to stay longer or come back again.…
Awesome campground. Clean and quiet with great facilities. The cooking facilities, showers and bathrooms are clean, modern and we’ll set up. We used the laundry which is also great. We arrived on dusk and enjoyed a great sunset.
Stayed here for a couple of nights in one of the ensuite units and overall we thought it was pretty good. Units were clean and well maintained and internal furnishings like beds were of a good standard. The holiday park itself has plenty of parking and has a good guest laundry for an okay price. Nearest shop and restaurant is about 2-3 minutes drive away but is not really suitable for walking as it is along an unlit state highway. Good reasonably priced option in Haast.
Had a 1 night stay at this property in an upstairs king studio. The room was very spacious and there was a good shower. The bed and pillows were comfortable and we had a good sleep. At first glace the room looked clean until I noticed the dust on the base of the table. It was thick enough that I could write in it. The 'bend' at the bottom of the toilet was discoloured and need to have some bleach put down it.
We spent one night here on our way through to Queenstown from the West Coast. The upstairs studio was large and comfy, we probably had one of our best nights sleeps on the whole trip as the the bed was nice and the place was quiet. Friendly staff at check in, clean rooms, it isn't 5 star stuff but was good for what we needed at the time (there's not a huge choice in Haast anyway!).
