Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
We stayed for 3 nights, which was a few days too short ! We took the 1/2 Board package with one dinner at the Michelin starred restaurant and would do that package again since all five different dining options are outstanding. Really Excellent. The breakfast and all the options and fare is probably the finest one in our 4 weeks of 5 star hotels in the region (Italy/France). Our jr. suite was beautifully decorated (#230), on the 2nd floor at the North end of the hotel with separate bedroom, absolute privacy and views from our terrace onto the 240 acres of beautiful grounds bordering the lake Maggiore.
Very peaceful, and also close to charming Ascona (possible to walk there, but we didn't) for a little extra activity and restaurants when desired. Staff very friendly and helpful. Shaded & safe parking adjacent to the hotel . Upon leaving they even clean your cars windshield! Nice touch!

It is definetely the right place to unwind and chill. I liked the entrance and all surroundings and big spaces are trully great. The staff was really attentive and even Chef came very friendly to wish us a nice lunch, which we had at terrace the self-service bbq à la minute-style with plenty of choices including desserts! We really enjoyed the experience from start visiting their gardens under the sun together with a digestive down their "beach" to finish.

This hotel, with its expansive grounds, is truly unique. It is well-run, boasting an excellent kitchen, including a delicious Friday night seafood buffet offering a wide variety of fish. The well-furnished bar, deck chairs, and friendly, creative service on the lake shore enhance the charm of this fairy-tale setting.

although we prefer to stay in small houses with privacy the castello offers you the chance to find your place in its vast grounds. we stayed in a beautiful large suite with views of the lake behind the trees. very friendly staff and hosts. breakfast was very nice although a little crowded due to the many guests. the private lakeshore is of course great, too.

Seldom does one find a hotel or resort where the standard of service, food and attention to detail exceed expectation. Castello del Sole is extremely unique in this respect. I shall be returning with my wife and the first opportunity.

As regular travellers to the best properties in the world we were bowled over by the quality of the service from beginning to end. Little details like remembering our names from the beginning showed the passion for service. Dinner in both the Michelin 1 starred restaurant (thanks to Sergio) and the daily restaurant were exceptional. Fabulous setting. The bedroom was well thought out and in perfect condition. Book the michelin restaurant well before arrival if you are a foody as it books out early.

The luxury hotel "Castello del Sole" in Ascona fully deserves the "Resort" label attached to its name. The hotel's property area is indeed vast, including a private beach, tennis courts and a wide grass and garden area around the hotel buildings.
We only enjoyed a short stay, including a stroll to the Hotel’s own beach bar "La Spiaggia”. This beach bar with lake view (see attached picture) proposed and served us excellent beverages (including a few light/summer signature cocktails). Very friendly and attentive barkeeper service.
Worth returning one day for a longer stay.
A well-known Swiss hotel rating guide (Mr. Karl Wild’s Hotel Guide, published annually) listed and still lists *Castello del Sole* at the top spot (or among the top three) regularly in both the holiday/leisure and overall category year after year - deservedly so in our opinion.

We dined at the hotel’s Locanda Barbarossa restaurant whilst staying in Ascona.
The restaurant is truly worthy of its Michelin star. We had the tasting menu which was excellent - lots of local flavours including produce grown in the hotel’s gardens- and wine from their own vineyard.
The cuisine is classical ( as you might expect given that the chef trained with Gordon Ramsey) and the service is highly professional but very friendly.

I reviewed this hotel in 2017. Since then I have been back twice, with family and my very positive comments stand. The only change is that everyone has had to deal with Covid, and the Castello del Sole has risen to the challenge. One feels perfectly safe, while at the same time not restricted. The size of the hotel, grounds and restaurant mean that it is easy to distance. A joy to visit, great whether you want to do sport (tennis, golf and cycling available) or simply relax by the pool or the lake. Excellent facilities for children. I'm looking forward to my next visit - but will need to save, this excellence costs serious money!

A charming and extraordinary Hotel and Setting. Most competent and friendly staff. Outstanding cuisine including Breakfast Buffet. The Seafood Buffet on Fridays a special treat and alone worth a visit. The vineyards and their own production and tasting a great experience. Hi, I'm not from the hotel, but I think I can answer some questions.
1. Pool - I think it is open as it is heated and has indoor / outdoor parts.
2. You can walk into Ascona from the hotel (20-30 minute walk to the old town/Harbour there). The hotel also has a shuttle bus
3. The hotel offers boat tours of the lake. They also have an amazing lunch offer at their mountain restaurant with helicopter ride.
