We were in a classy Bauhaus-Style room. Style but not build and designed. To start with the pro: ver nice room with great view. Wonderful garden and a perfect place to be. The breakfast was good - not great - but the view in the modern glassroom just lovely. Now the cons: expensive for a very mixed service. Check-in not...

We stayed in a room in the Bauhaus building which was stunning - if you like that kind of design. It was simple with great colour combinations, large with a huge balcony overlooking the lake. I enjoyed walking through the grounds and we tasted some teas in the teahouse and had a very interesting conversation with the woman there. I...

This place has a special cultural and historic past as the place to be for the European intelligentia at the beginning of the 20th century. The who is who in art, literature and philosophy spent months up on this hill celebrating a new and healthy life style (celebrating vegetarianism and nudism) surrounded by magnificent nature and splendid views on the...

This hotel has the potential to be one of the best in the world, but the management and staff are so bad, and certain things about the facilities, that it frustratingly becomes the worst "good" hotel I've ever stayed at. First the good: Beautiful grounds and gardens, and a great Bauhaus design for the main building. I got stuck in...

All rooms seem to have large balconies overlooking the lake. The rooms are simple and white - no TVs. Extremely comfortable beds, tea and coffee making facilities. Request for an extra pillow was granted immediately. Surrounded by peaceful grounds with walks. Breakfasts were a delight with a good selection of everything. The terrace was bathed in sunlight or the large...

The Bauhaus design connection enticed us and we were not disappointed. Comfortable simple room and bathroom, with a spacious balcony and good view. Good breakfast and extensive grounds to wander through. It is quite a way up from the town so a car or taxi is needed. We enjoyed the tea ceremony offered as an option. Peaceful and relaxing.

Very happy with my stay. One night at Casa Gioia. Its the cheapest option of the hotel, where you're in a side house n share a bathroom. There's one shower and and three toilets. The facilities were modern and clean. The staff was also very friendly and helpful whenever I had a question or request. Great breakfast buffet:) there's also...

The room was in an oultlying villa on the estate with a great view over Lake Maggiore. The service at the reception desk was excellent given that due to a misunderstnading I had not confirmed my booking. The weekly set menu for dinner was well crafted and served with a great white Merlot. Hotel guests get 10% off on dinner...

We just wanted to escape the cold, rainy weekend north of the Alps, and made a lucky strike by getting a last-minute half-prize offer for this hotel. Everything was already said about Ascona as a lovely, even if snobby and overrun tourist destination, and about this hotel with its history and architecture, so I can spare my words. All I...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Monte Verità stands on the hills overlooking Ascona and Lake Maggiore and has always been a magnet for ideas, trends, experiments and historical figures. At the turn of the 20th century, an alternative, vegetarian colony was founded on the site, and the mythical golden age of Monte Verità began. Artists, anarchists, philosophers and thinkers settled here - with illustrious guests such as Hermann Hesse among them. After a brief period in the early Twenties, during which a group of expressionist artists set up a small artistic community, the hill just in Ascona was purchased by the German banker and art collector Baron Eduard von der Heydt. It was then that Monte Verità became a modern hotel complex, visited by high-profile figures from the worlds of art, politics and culture. The Baron bequeathed Monte Verità to the Canton Ticino in the 1950s, and in the late 1980s it was turned into a conference centre thanks to a partnership with the Swiss Federal Institute of Teconology in Zurich. Today, Monte Verità is a state-of-the-art conference and cultural centre, managed by the Foundation of the same name. Situated on seven hectares of tranquil, lush parkland with breathtaking panoramas of Lake Maggiore, it offers visitors a truly unique experience. ... more   less
