Location - Short walk from the train station. Very close to the tourist information and a supermarket. Great base to pick up numerous wonderful hiking trails and cable cars to Oeschinensee and Allmenalp. Free bus to Sunnbüel cable car. Outdoor swimming pool next door. Hotel - Ideally located in the centre of the village with the most wonderful views of Blüemlisalp. Friendly, attentive hosts and staff. (Loved Claudia’s dresses :-) ) Spacious rooms with sitting area and balcony. Spa area and small gym downstairs. Food - Breakfast and 4 course evening meals were delicious and plentiful with outside tables offering a wonderful view of the sunset over the mountains. Tea and cake available in the afternoon, lovely treat after a long walk. Recommended walks - 1. Cable car or walk up to Oeschinensee and walk around the lake. For a more strenuous walk head up towards Blüemlisalphutte. 2. Hike up to Doldenhornhutte. 3. Walk or cable car up to Allmenalp. Take a look at the Via Ferrata and waterfall beside the cable car base station. 4. Free bus to Sunnbüel cable car station, cable car up and walk to Daubensee or onwards to Gemmi pass for more strenuous hike. 5. Walk to Blausee (options for different routes and / or bus). 6. Day trip to Bern (approx 1hr on train). Well worth a visit.

My wife, daughter and I recently spent two nights at this gorgeous hotel in Kandersteg. There is no question why this hotel is ranked 1. Location, service, food, and interaction with guests - all top notch. We had a great room with a balcony with a beautiful view of the mountains and waterfalls. Breakfast every morning was tasty and filling. The owner Claudia herself was present every morning to welcome us for breakfast and serve the hot beverages. The birchermuesli is one of the best we have had around Switzerland. The staff are also a credit to the establishment and ensured that everything was neat and clean. On checking out, Claudia came out to say bye and had a small gift for us. Real nice, personal touch in these days of big hotels that are all sheen without a soul. Hoping to come back.

My son and I are just finishing up a three day stay at the hotel. From the moment we walked in the door, we felt welcomed. The owner personally introduced herself and wished us a pleasant stay. Her and her husband were present at every meal, making sure all was well, serving and making sure to wish us a good day or evening. I have never been in a hotel where I felt that the owners or managers cared so much. We enjoyed all the meals, the food was well presented, the food was a high quality and the portions were more than generous. It wasn’t our intention but after the first evening meal, we decided to take all our dinners at the hotel. The room was spacious and extremely clean. The balcony was amazing with a view of the mountains which was a perfect place to relax after a day of hiking.

I stayed for a long weekend alone and was surprised by the attentiveness and care of the staff. From the moment I walked in, I relaxed and felt welcomed. Each morning for breakfast, I was greeted with a smile and a handshake. The room was lovely with a gorgeous view of the mountains; it was also a spacious and clean room. I cannot wait to return with my family. I fell in love with Kandersteg and with the Hotel Bernerhof!

We came with our whole family and four grandsons. The accommodations were perfect. We had half board as there were ten of us and that is too large for most places to handle. We had stayed in Kandersteg three different times and had been aware of the hotel but this was our first stay and we were all very happy to have made this choice. The food was excellent for both breakfast and dinner. The location was good also as it was a short trek to the train station. The people at the hotel were very helpful. It was a great place to end our vacation.
