When I'm old and gray this will be a memory I'm glad I will have! We (my husband, brother & wife) drove from Fussen Germany to Wasserauen and rode the tram up on the last day of the year they were open (10/31/16). We had beautiful weather! The cost was $62euros for 2 people. It's quite a steep ascent and... More

This location was last on our itinerary for Switzerland and if you know the saying "saving the best for last" then this applies perfectly to this hidden away treasure. Personally I'm not very good with heights, so the journey with the cable carts was a nightmare for me. None the less once we actually reached the top, it was like... More

The view on the mountain restaurant aescher won a price of national geographics because it looks so special. It deserves this price. It is also a beautiful hike up there. We would recomend the hike instead of taking the cableway. The food in the restaurant is great as well.

The location of the restaurant and the hotel is amazing! I must admit we did not stay overnight, as I live close by but the place is a must see! The location is really amazing. We can see this place on our hikes.

Stayed in Appenzell but you must take the cable car up to Ebernalp and walk to Berggasthaus Aesher. Nice outdoor patio. Go early as it is a very popular place. The walk is a bit of a challenge if you just arrived in the mountains. Wear good shoes for hiking as you first have to hike through a cave that... More

Not just a great lunch - an entire excursion for the day! We caught the funicular up to the walking path - followed the signs to the Berggasthaus Aescher - well posted - and made a few stops along the way for photos and such. Just off the funicular - in the late spring/summer many go parasailing off the mountain... More

We have come here for a lunch after nice walk on the paths in the mountains. The weather was cloudy and rainy. The food was very comforting for the weather we encountered and then during the meal the clouds disappeared and the astonishing panorama landscape has appeared. It was lovely experience, amazing views and great swiss heavy food in the... More

Breath taking scenery, fabulous views, stunning location....oh the guest house, food and staff were awesome....Benny was the greatest rosti cook and Diana was the number one waitress! The mini horse was moody, the mountain dog crazy and the sheep were very musical! Weather kind.....And last but not least.....the beer! I cant remember how good it was! One great great night and... Went to this superb location following the national geographic article. The service is as frankly non existent except for 1 friendly waitress. The owner is downright rude and makes you feel as if you are not welcome and in his way. The food is good but there are way too many customers and the service cannot follow. The rooms are... More

We set Ascher as a goal of our loop from Wasserauen and Ebenapl. The place is located under a massive cliff, above a valley. In sunny days views are beautiful. During our lunch we ordered Rosti with a chease and a smoked belly (cold meal). Rosti is a big and tasty portion of food. Belly - was nothing special. Local... More
