We really enjoyed our dinner at Privata. There is a set menu only, but they flexibly accommodated our wish to vary the main course. The menu was carefully presented and included local, authentic dishes (with second helpings). The wine suggestion was excellent as well. The setting is very cosy and the service was friendly and attentive. We will come again.

We stayed at Hotel Privata for 4 nights in late September 2018. We very much enjoyed this small, privately owned hotel in lovely Sils Maria. The small town is beautiful and colorful - flowers everywhere and lush green when we were there. Hotel Privata is on a small quiet square and just 5 minutes walk from the Post bus stop. Rooms are individually decorated and very comfortable. Ours had a small private balcony. We had perfect weather during our stay and enjoyed several nearby hiking trails. If you stay more than 2 nights a travel card is offered providing free transportation on buses, trams and even gondolas. A huge cost savings! Breakfast is included in the room rate and is plentiful and delicious. Breads, eggs, meats and cheeses are provided as are a variety of fruit juices, coffee and tea. We chose half board and loved every meal. Starter, soup, main and dessert were offered each night. Coffee, tea and a sweet are set out each afternoon. If weather is nice do enjoy the beautiful garden just outside the dining room. We also enjoyed nearby Cafe Grund for coffee, tea and an afternoon treat. We highly recommend Hotel Privata and hope to visit again.

Our stay was on 20 September 2018 for 4N. The weather was terrific, with sunny blue skies throughout and temperature around 2-10 degrees. Upon arrival at St Moritz train station, we noticed Bus #4 was quite full & with all our luggages, it would have been difficult getting on the bus. So it was so really kind of them to send friendly Philip to pick us up as they knew were were coming after a 13 hr flight. With a pleasant commentary & chit chat along the way, awed by the beauty of the surroundings, we arrived at the quaint hotel within 20mins. Corina was ever helpful, efficient, always friendly inspite of her busyness - so without further ado, they brought our luggages up to Room 44 & 45 on the 4th floor and we settled in very quickly. Walking up 4 flights several times daily was indeed a real workout for the legs! Our Double Standard room was cozy & typically Swiss style with lots of wood. There was a balcony but the view was partially obstructed by hotel Schweizerhof (rather cold looking building) which was a pity. Hotel Privata is tucked at the end of Sils and if not for the cold looking Schweizerhof hotel, the view would have been perfect. The room was moderate in size, ceiling was a little low and it was very clean. We liked the nicely tiled spacious shower area with heated towel racks & hairdryer. Good water pressure with hot water. The whole hotel is furnished with warm colours, lots of wood and gives off lots of charm. A family feeling because it was filled with nostalgic memories of antiques and lovely decorations. Wifi signal is excellent. Nice selection of free teas and biscotti (very yummy) at around 2pm-5pm which we enjoyed daily in the little garden at the back. Dinner & Breakfast is served in the same restaurant which is very nicely decorated. We enjoyed their very good breakfast spread every morning (eggs are cooked to order, included in the room price. Our favourite was their delicious scrambled eggs). There was a nice selection of condiments to accompany the yoghurt as well as several kinds of wafers and breads. The horseradish was a pleasant addition to the hams, if needed. Their butter was really nice and creamy. Their breakfast spread was something to look forward to before heading out. For dinner, dress smart casual. As the restaurant does not have much ventilation, we were more comfortable with short sleeves inside. We enjoyed the set dinner experience for the 1st night as we were given a more spacious corner, away from the large group. Sadly, they shifted us to a different corner the next 3 nights, next to the large group of around 12 Px plus another 4-6 px next to them. It got pretty noisy, a little stuffy & crammed for us in our corner. Hence, there was no chance for a quiet dinner and it affected our appetite towards the last 3 nights because of the noise, lack of space and stuffiness in that corner. Perhaps we were also a little jetlagged, so the noise & lack of space affected us. The restaurant was full so we didnt ask for a change of table. That was the only negative during our stay. Having said that, we do recommend having the half board as the food is delicious and bursting with a variety of flavours. The accompanying home made herb bread dipped in olive oil was aromatic. On our 1st night, the roast beef starter was so melt in your mouth and tasty! The main dish cannoli pasta was so refined and thin, one filled with meat and another delightful mix of veggies. The veggie soup was nice and light. Dessert was interesting too. Portions are more than ample as they do ask if you need 2nd helpings of the main course. Appreciated the service by Francesca & Mario. Take note that plain water in a carafe is chargeable Chf4 and after dinner coffee/tea is also a separate charge. The horse carriages park outside the hotel and it’s very nice to hear the clippity clop as they make their way up and down. Beautiful swiss horses. Just be prepared to get the faint whiff from the dung wafting through the air (esp when the weather is warmer) outside on the odd occasions. Nothing alarming tho as it adds to the rural countryside feeling. We thoroughly enjoyed a private horse carriage ride all the way to the end, with a 1.5hr stop at Hotel Fex. The most scenic part is just before the middle Fex Crastas Chapel to the end of Fex Curtins Hotel Fex so dont miss that. The Posta bus stop is just a 5 min walk away. It is actually quite large and not just a little stop sign, very convenient to take the buses to different spots for day trips. The hotel has copies of the bus schedules and many other brochures on the info rack of their entrance. In any case, the Tourist Info is just next door. We recommend the cafe at the top of Mt. Corvatsch with spectacular views. The walk to Lake Sils is very close by via a side street next to the Tourist Info and we highly recommend the beautiful walk to the blue lake. Drop by the Grond bakery for good coffee and Apple Crumble along the way. There is a very friendly buzz surrounding Hotel Privata and we can understand why it remains so popular.

We stayed five nights at the Privata and are already talking about returning. Everything was perfect- our room (we had a junior suite on the corner overlooking the river with a view to the valley. Lots of little extras made the room comfortable), the staff, who all seemed genuinely happy in their jobs and were there to help in any way, the location- close to everything ( trails, bus stop, shops) yet not noisy, and the food-breakfast buffet had excellent breads, cheeses, meats, muesli and yogurt (locally made) fruits and nuts and soft boiled eggs. We got the half board - four out of five dinners were excellent with local favorites, many of which we had never tried. We loved the Engadine and the Privata completed the picture for us.
