The hotel has come of age, which did not harm the ambience in the entrance area. The entire atmosphere in the hotel, however, seems spooky and on a budget. This may be due to the season with few guests. However, already at check-in we were allowed to listen to the receptionist on the phone unduly long. As a guest, neither repairs, personnel rosters etc. are of interest. We were forced to pay in advance and actually asked why a twin room was booked instead of a double room. Also, the reception is only manned until 20:00, which is a NoGo for a house where the five stars flash in the entrance. The room was nice and warm, cozy and spacious. In the bathroom was everything available that guest needed to feel good. The first morning in the swimming pool was okay, on the second both the indoor pool and the water temperatures were lowered by a few degrees Celsius, so we hurried quickly across cold and drafty hallways into the room. Breakfast consisted of only cheap goods, with baked-on rolls, slices of sausage, cheese and salmon cut at least three times. Extra coffees were charged at an additional € 4.00. No, we will not book the hotel again. Due to the relatively cheap price, we still rate with three stars. We wish the house all the best.
The hotel is not a hotel, more a room rental with invisible staff. The entire facility is old and very worn. The reception is closed from 9 p.m. to 8 p.m., is unfriendly and makes guests feel like they are disturbing someone. The 5 employees are grumpy, with the exception of the breakfast manager.
Everything is locked and inaccessible - unbelievable. There isn't even coffee in the rooms and anyone who gets up earlier than 8 a.m. gets no service. The room rental is very expensive, however. The only thing that was decent was the swimming pool from 8 a.m. We definitely won't be coming back!
The reception is lovely, and the receptionist nice and serviced when we first got in touch.
The rooms are very large and the beds good. Smelled a little locked up in the room when we arrived.
The bathroom was great. Clean and nice and the water was good and warm. The saunas have their own times they are heated up.
Breakfast had the most you want, and offers delivery of breakfast in the room for extra.
We had coffee served in the room before breakfast.
The restaurant was unfortunately closed because they lacked staff.
Parking was free in front of the hotel in the closed area.
The city is quiet and cosy.
Hope more take the trip here so that a "little" pearl of a hotel can persist
The breakfast has been the only area where we would expect more from a 5 star hotel. Neither fresh fruit nor cereals/nuts have been available. And if you are not for fish in the morning the selection is missing some variety. But we did not leave hungry…
Beautiful and full of charming character; a house to immerse yourself in and relax in, and a feast for the eyes for the observer. An exemplary example of what can be done with old buildings. A monument to an architect with heart and mind.
The receptionist is a little grumpy, but unfortunately she wasn't able to say "Moin", or "Welcome", or "Goodbye and have a good trip", or even the hint of a smile. But maybe her cat had just died, who knows. But I was compensated all the more with the friendliness of another receptionist - an older gentleman - and a very friendly young man from the service (breakfast room). The batteries in the remote control were all gone, the two gentlemen were exemplary in their helpfulness and extremely nice. A smile costs nothing. An extra star for these two gentlemen. I would have happily packed up the swimming pool and taken it home with me; a dream. The breakfast was more of a 3-plus, but everything was good for this less frequented time of year. The E room... really nice. Single rooms are often poorly located, stiff children in hotels, along the lines of: "It's your own fault if you're single." But here there was even a bathroom with a tub and the location was good.
We will see each other again, Hotel "Altes Gymnasium", for sure.
The hotel, which is an old high school for children of wealthy parents, was bought in the 1950s by one of the former students.
The hotel is really beautiful and we traveled on a mining holiday to have a spa stay. As it is currently (2023) impossible to obtain labor in the hotel and restaurant industry, nothing was possible. We could take a swim in the 24° cold pool and then go to the sauna. It is not good enough.
