We (a couple in our 50's) stayed in this hotel for the 4th time and we're once again impressed with the food (in the main), the staff and the facilities. Having visited on previous occasions I was well aware of what the hotel had to offer although I was a bit suprised at how much it had expanded since our last visit (2016). Sadly the hotel also appeared to be a bit overwelmed with the expansion and they were a bit under pressure during check in / check out. This resulted in the reception area being full during peak periods. The hotel has changed since my first visit in 2011 and now offers a larger wellness area and a second dining area (although you have to walk outside to reach it). Further changes involve the interior design from a previous Mediterranean feel to a quite cold (my opinion) gold/silver design. Unfortunately the interior designer appears to have got it wrong with the lampshades made out of a hairpiece or mammoth fur (see picture ). Another change is the bar which used to be fairly open but now has an opaque glass panel hiding the bar staff from the customers. Although this review may appear a bit negative it's only because I've visited before and marginally prefered the previous visits however I have no doubt that once the building works and refurbishments are finished the hotel will exceed my expectations (as it has on previous visits). I can recommend splashing out a bit more money and booking a spa suite with whirlpool/bath (be aware though that a thimble full of bath oil will set you back 5 euro and you may be cheaper buying some champagne).

Stayed four nights at the end of June 2018. Located about a 5 minute drive from the town, at the top of a hill in a quiet area with trails going through the woods around the property. Better to have a car; the hotel has shuttles going to and from town but do not run very frequently. Very well maintained hotel, very clean. It is very spa-focused; seemed to attract a lot of people during the day for spa services only, not as much to stay overnight. Room was large; very comfortable bed and linens, and the bathroom was big with a somewhat high-tech shower with lights and music, most of which we couldn't figure out how to operate (but the actual shower worked just fine). Mini fridge and lots of room for clothing and suitcases. Room had a door with a patio with two chairs and leg rests overlooking the hotel and surrounding area. There is a very nice gym on site and they also had a playroom for kids, which our two year old loved and played there a few times. There are some pools at this hotel but the temperature was too cool during our stay for us to be interested in going for a swim. We do not speak German, and the staff while we were there did not speak much English, but we got along just fine. Breakfast was very nice and seating area was very spacious. Staff very helpful. You have to let the hotel know by mid-afternoon if you plan to eat there for supper, but there are a few options within very close walking distance, basically next door - try the Hotel Rosengarten which was relatively cheap, had excellent pizza and salads, and a very nice wine list. Their wait staff spoke English and were very friendly and helpful, even suggesting things to do in the area and what not to miss. What we liked best: quiet location, spacious room, excellent breakfast We we liked least: no air conditioning and had to leave door/window open to keep room cool, but it was so quiet and the temperature was cool enough during our stay that this was only a minor issue.

The employees are very friendly. Breakfast and dinner very good. It is impossible to come into your room before 15:00 hrs. The Lifestyle rooms are good. The SPA is a labyrinth, difficult to find what you are looking for. Pools are open at 8:00/9:00 hrs which is to laid for swimming before breakfast. They charge a fee for parking, gardening etc. which is not written in their homepage.

The location is amazing too bad the spa facilities aren't. We attempted to book spa services but few available for our 4 night stay. We were not able to get pedicures or manicures or massages. We could not book facials other than very basic facial. This was disappointing since it is a spa and boast huge menu of services available. Sad none were though. Pool areas are nice but small and crowded. I did like the Panorama pool and sauna area nice but never could find the steam rooms or hot tub. I think at check in you should be given a map or tour of the facilities. Many staff do not speak English especially in spa area so hard to communicate. The staff is not friendly even in reception area and spa area. The gym area and equipment was a total disappointment few treadmills and weight machine not up to par. . We got up early to work out but found the doors locked with no access till 8 am. It would be nice to work out, hike, and take an early morning swim but the facilities are all locked down and not available for the early riser which is very disappointing. The advertising says there is fitness classes but we could not find the class time or area to attend. The spa area offers no cool drinks with services not even lemon water or tea....4 ounce of apple juice cost 2 Euros. The breakfast buffet is good with a great selection of foods but wish menu and place cards by food would have some English. Restaurant closes too EARLY by the time you bike or hike and get back in evening restaurant closed and there is no food to be had. They will not seat you after 8:30 at night and close promptly at 9 pm You have to have reservations for evening meal and there are no apologies if you are hungry without one. No accommodation very rigid for a vacation spot. The literature says 4 restaurants although I saw only one, if there are 4 perhaps one should be open late with limited menu. The area around spa was great with biking trails and hiking areas but hotel has very poor map with the designated trails so you are on your own to figure it out. The trails are amazing though if you hike or bike because can go through the vineyards and see the river and Bernkastle below. Trails are numbered and rated by difficulty. Berncastle Kies is nearby with great riverfront shops and restaurants. The castles were closed for renovation. If I were to return would stay in Bernkastle and bike, hike, kayak, and rent a vrbo or cheaper hotel. The area is gorgeous and so relaxing. This place could be phenomenal but has not grown into its potential. It was very sterile and clinic rehab like rather than being a spa/resort. Services limited with unavailability and unenthusiastic employees. I wanted it to be great, it wasn't aweful but just good. There are better in Germany, but this location great. Maybe they will improve and add staff for the spa services so they provide what they advertise as available.
