This is a 3 star hotel and it was a long time ago that we had slept in such a hotel again, usually we choose a 4 star hotel. The hygiene in the room could be much better. When we checked in they said our room was ready but after first having something to drink in the bar and an hour and a half later to go to our room, we came to the sad conclusion that it was not yet cleaned ... sheets and towels as the previous guest left them, that feels dirty. They immediately cleaned the room when we told this, but it still feels strange to see the 'dirt' of a stranger in 'your room'. It also smelled musty in the hallway between the lobby and the rooms. This is an old hotel that needs an update. The heating in the room was also very difficult to control, at night it was much too hot even though the radiator was only on position 1. The shower was open so that the entire bathroom floor gets wet after a shower and the shower faucet is completely in the corner so you have to place yourself against the glass wall, shame about the lost space, also nowhere a cupboard or shelf to put your things on. That means you have to move everything from the wardrobe in the room to the bathroom. A coat rack in the bathroom would also be handy. The tube that strengthened the glass wall of the shower to the opposite wall had been released, making accidents possible, that glass wall could come loose and break, luckily we had seen this and could fix it again. We did not use the sauna and swimming pool for fear of hygiene and the swimming pool did not look cozy either. Breakfast and dinner was always buffet style. not bad but not tasteful either. Lot's of people in the hotel and restaurant, so you always had to queue at the buffet. Many Dutch people too, they even speak Dutch in the lobby and restaurant. That's easy but doesn't really feel like going on vacation. For the price we paid it was ok, but been here done that now. Next time Austria again!

We went for an extended Weekend to Winterberg resort. The rooms are basically equipped, however all functional ( large TV screen). The lounge is cozy with an open fireplace and friendly waiters. The Swimmingpool is long enough for a swim. The sauna area requires improvement: the changing area has a disgusting smell. It would be nice to steam up ( Aufgüsse) the sauna, not sure why the sauna oven does not allow this. It would be also helpful to clarify to all users, if the Sauna should be used with or without bathing cloth. The buffet dinner is ok, but it should be more regional food on offer ( like deer, trout etc). The hotel is situated near a Skilift, however a 20 min walk away from Winterberg town. We went mountain hiking, the other guests were mainly mountain bikers and motor bikers.

The hotel is of course a base to go out and ski but it's a very warm and welcoming place, just what you need after a day in the snow. The staff is very friendly (Dutch people mostly), the breakfast will get you ready for the day for sure, and the bar is big and cosy. The rooms however are very basic and the bathroom is small. When you're totally frozen in your ski outfit, you may express yourself badly, but only for a short moment.

Very warm reception room was ready although we were one hour early. Room was on the small size but this we expected, room for our small dogs bed. No small fridge or tea making facility. Bathroom with shower has every thing but it rather small not big enough to swing a cat around. On the bright side the bar and lounge area is exceptional for this level of Hotel looks very new with lots of seating with very nice aspects and views. The evening meal was help yourself and was a four corse at a cost of E20 very good value, the breakfast was included in room cost. Small swimming pool but you can swim as it is a rectangular shape. Sunday morning it was completely empty very good for a 25 mins swim. The location is excellent you are in the forest as you step outside the door. No snow, so we walked to the top of the Berg following the sky lift route.

I've stayed at this hotel 3 times now, a couple of visits with my wife and 2 sons, and this year just with my wife. We all enjoy skiing and the hotel is perfectly placed to access the Winterberg Skiliftkarussell pistes. With a comfortable dining area, a very cosy bar, swimming pool and sauna, it's the perfect base to return to after a busy day on the slopes. Breakfast and dinner are served buffet style, with the food being wholesome rather than stunning. Not to say that it isn't good tasty stuff, with a varied selection, and plenty of it! If you fancy exploring the town of Winterberg is a five minute drive away, it has a good selection of bars and restaurants if you want to eat out. There's also plenty of shops to nose round. For those using the hotel for their winter sport there's a ski and boot hire shop onsite, and you can purchase your ski passes from the reception. Once you're all kitted out it's only a short walk along the hotel's driveway to the first lift that will take you up to the heart of the ski area. With friendly and helpful staff it's spot on for a winter break.
