Alpenhof is a nice enough hotel, but so many little things were off, there’s no way it can compare to other five star hotels in the Alps. Starting with the arrival by car - greeted by a phalanx of no stopping signs in the entrance, best just to drive directly into the parking garage and unpack there. The how-fast-can-I-say-my-greeting speech introduction to the hotel from the lady checking us in. The varying levels of maintenance on the walls, furniture etc (brown stain in the porcelain sink, mirror damaged, screen door opens and slams shut in the wind, random little hook sticking out of the wall in the hallway, …) Being woken on Sunday around 830 to what sounded like construction but turned out to be the maids pushing their trolleys across tiles in the hallway. The outlandish prices in the restaurant for food that was ok but nothing else (fish overcooked, portion tiny) A breakfast buffet with “everything” but not at a quality I’d expect of 5*. Seemed more like what you’d get if you did your shopping at Aldi, bread and cheese included (meaning not bad, but also not special) The narrow hallway connecting the spa with the outside pool with showers you may or may not find, where you can dry off after your shower as people press by you. That said there were also little gems. Some of the staff was very friendly (especially at the restaurant for breakfast but also some front desk staff too)! The outdoor and indoor pool were both nice. Eating breakfast in the gardens was lovely. And to be fair, those other 5* places cost a bunch more. So I guess it’s a mix of broken expectations caused by the rating, some unfriendly staff at the front desk (though there were really friendly ones there too!) plus a lack of attention to detail that I’d expect from 4* too that made this a disappointment in general.

Dear davidkA8103UH, thank you for taking the time to rate your stay at Alpenhof. We are sorry to hear that your expectations were not met and that you encountered several issues during your stay. At Alpenhof we strive to provide you with an unforgettable experience with impeccable hospitality, so it is very unfortunate to hear about the inconveniences you encountered during your stay. Of course, we will discuss them in the team and continue to work on us. We very much appreciate your kind words about our staff and the outdoor and indoor pool. We hope you will give us another chance in the future so we can provide you with an even more positive experience. Kind regards Anja Junghans Communication & Media Manager

enjoyed a few days when visiting Oberammergau Festival.... Rooms are ok, servicer and front desk super nice, helpful, thankyou. Maybe the dinner was a bit on the up-side pricewise.... But all in all enjoyed the stay. might be back, Rented an ebike and had fun, too.

Wonderful hotel in an absolutely beautiful environment! Lovely rooms, great wellness and pool areas and lots to do!! The food was fantastic as were the amazing cocktails at the friendly and cosy bar with fireplace! Felt very comfortable and welcome with our 3 kids. And what really stands out is the quality of the staff - extremely helpful and friendly and motivated. We had a fantastic time and hope to come back soon!

This was our third visit to the Alpenhof Murnau with our two kids age 2 and 5. We were very positively surprised how well the staff managed covid precautions and I was very happy there were no compromises in terms of quality and service. Spa and pools were open as usual. I would even say service has improved since our last stay in Dec 2019. Staff are very helpful, attentive, caring, and friendly - many thanks for their hard work. Facilities are very clean and a very relaxing environment. So much nature right in front of the door. One thing I learned from our past visit is that they do not have any coffee machine or cups in the room so I brought my own coffee (being a morning coffee addict I cannot even make it to breakfast without some caffeine). You can get a coffee downstairs in the restaurant, but service is at least for us a bit too slow just for a cup of coffee. Their breakfast is very good - not the largest spread but good quality and well organized. Really like their Wiener Schnitzel at the restaurant. We stayed in an Alpenhof Panorama Room - Room 12 (bathroom a bit dated but is in a good condition). We will definitely be coming back in the future.

Dear Anthony, thank you very much for this great review and the wonderful feedback. Each of our employees is really happy about your praise. If you give us a short note about the coffee machine when you make your next reservation, we are now happy to have some on site that we will put in your room. Very good position in front of the mountains. Rooms good furnished and provided with all conforts. SPA well done, even if could be bigger compared with the number of guests. Restaurant elegant and good quality food. Incredible list of good wines (sometimes too pricey). The materasses are really too hard, we couldn´t sleep very well. Service not at the 5 Star Hotel level in some areas: - Bar Aperitif without any snack or even nuts - Concierge didn´t ask feedback on our stay - Restaurant service good but not at the level of the ambience and price. The hotel is very much used for business conventions. Considered the price, I would have expected something more.

Stayed here for a couple of days when in Murnau. Friendly, clean and helpful. Nice to be offered a complimentary glass of wine on arrival - I've not had that elsewhere! Our room had fantastic alpine views and was very comfortable. Only downside, no tea or coffee facilities in the room. Good breakfast as well, with lovely views of the gardens. We didn't have time to avail ourselves of the spa facilities etc. but I am sure they're up to the standard of the rest of the place. Not in the centre of town but that's just a 20 minute walk away.

Dear guests, we are very pleased that you felt so comfortable in our house. On request, we are also happy to provide a coffee machine in the room, or orders of this kind are always possible via room service. Out of respect for the environment, we do not provide the capsule machines as standard. We hope to see you again soon. Best regards Anja Junghans Communication & Media Manager

A quite unassuming village is Murnau but it has everything including a great cake shop. This hotel is just 5 minutes drive in a most serene location. Quality staff and amenities with a gorgeous garden all around. The rooms are super comfy and a very good breakfast. Only negative they charge 9 euro for parking and when you pay top money for a room , that's a bit much to charge , also not impressed with the fish cakes for dinner, nevertheless, if you avoid dinners then it's all good.

Dear guests, thank you for your positive review. We are very pleased that you felt so comfortable and enjoyed it. Reffering to the parking fee we stand for an open cost statement, so that each guest can see what he really pays. Many hotels hide the parking fee in the room rates. In this case, however, guests who arrive without a car also pay this price and we would like to avoid that. We ask for your understanding. It would be really nice if we could welcome you back soon. This is a lovely hotel. We had a room with a valley view and it was stunning with mountains in the distance. The grounds are really lovely and unique. Flowers and garden art wherever you look. The heated pool outside is great and we also took advantage of the sauna which is in a building of its own as well as a Keli room where you could just relax and enjoy the views. The staff was great. The morning breakfast buffet was also all you could want. I hope to return!

This was a stop off on a road trip en-route to Vienna. Nice room with veranda overlooking the garden pool & towards the Bavarian mountains, it was quite rainfall when we arrived, but I guess the views when the sun shines will be beautiful. The room was a good size, nice linen, as is the case in Germany, bags were at the ready with bathrobes, slippers & towels for the pool, love this , only ever seen this in German hotels. Also a backpack for loan for those wanting to wander off into the countryside. Very modern interior, parking for cars on-site. Nice little bar area , if you are a gin aficionado they have 40 plus to choose from.

We stayed here two nights as part of a driving tour of Alpine passes. We found it to be a very inviting, hospitable place. Our room was comfortably large, with an excellent bathroom and nice mountain views from the balcony. The layout was a little awkward in that getting to the room entailed a considerable walk from the front desk, and a somewhat bewildering path to the swimming pool. The staff were uniformly friendly and accommodating, and the food was varied and tasty.
