I’m still speechless on how great the one night experience we had at Burghotel was like. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, the rooms are gorgeous and look like something out of a fairytale, we had a 3 course dinner at the hotel restaurant and that was all very impressive including the delicious regional wine we had and the very friendly restaurant workers were also great! I would 200% recommend this hotel to anyone who would love to have a real castle experience. They have a garden that only hotel visitors can get into, and this garden is also stunning, it is very big and you might need about 30 minutes to an hour to go through all of it but it is totally worth it. I will definitely be visiting again.

Hotel's Favorite
We had a lovely stay at this hotel. We were here two nights in July 2021. The property itself is so interesting. It overlooks the Rhine; there is a lovely attached trail through a garden (which you can walk through, with a key to the gate). The castle in which the hotel is located is pretty large, and it is definitely on a hillside. This was fine for us, but I would note that there are some steep grades (including from parking lot to reception) throughout the property. This provides for beautiful and dramatic views on all sides, but for anyone who is mobility impaired, this would not be a feasible place to stay. Our room was Zimmer 28, which was a suite in a separate building. It looked like there was space for a room underneath ours, although I do not believe it was in use when we were there. Our room was 3 large rooms, bedroom, bath and living area. There was no separate shower; there was a large tub with a sprayer, which was not the most convenient thing for hair washing, but got the job done. There was a beautiful sauna in the bathroom, which we did not use. The bathroom featured two sinks and good counter space, and the tub was jetted and large. Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel were provided, along with a hairdryer. The living room included a sitting area with a table next to a window with a beautiful view—not of the river, it was a street down in a valley—but the surrounding countryside was either wooded or planted neatly with grapes. It was a lovely spot to enjoy the view, have a drink or get a little work done. All of the windows opened—which was good, because this room was not air conditioned (although my reservation said it was.) There was a nice fan in the closet, and with evening temps around 60 and the thick castle walls, it was never uncomfortably warm. One other note: The doorways in our room (entry and between rooms) were quite low. I am 5’2” and could walk through them, but my much taller husband had to bend over. I think they were about 5’6”. Just something to be aware of if that would be a problem for you. We interacted with quite a few staff members during our stay, and they were uniformly polite and helpful. There is a Tower Museum on the property, which we found interesting; not sure I would go out of my way to see it, but it was a nice thing to have available. Food: Breakfast served each morning. Included ½ soft boiled egg, coffee, tea, and a buffet with a selection of breads and croissants, cheeses, sausages, fruit, yogurt, and jellies, Nutella, butter, etc. There is both outside seating (limited, but with a very nice view) and inside seating. We did both. During Covid, they require masks to be worn except when eating, and provided a glove to use when serving from the buffet. We ate lunch at the Bistro our first day, served 12-2. It was fine, although the menu was limited (for example, no sandwiches). We ate dinner at the hotel both nights. It was both convenient and terrific. We were served on the terrace, which included several levels with beautiful views of the Rhine. There was also a courtyard. There is plenty of indoor seating, although the weather was very nice for eating dinner outside, and we didn’t see anyone seated inside. The ambiance was really exceptional. Because we were outside, and on different levels, you got a good “busy” vibe but with little ambient noise. That, together with the leisurely service, made it a great place for conversation. I felt it was more of an adult restaurant; but a few people had well-behaved children with them. Having said that, because of the multiple levels, lengthy meal time and romantic setting, I wouldn’t really advise this for folks with smaller children. The menu included one prix fixe option, which varied each night, with four courses and optional wine pairing; and a separate, limited a la carte menu (you could substitute or order off the prix fixe menu). The waitstaff was delightful. It was a typical leisurely European dinner; we ate at 7pm the first night, about 7:45pm the second night, and in both cases took about 2-1/2 hours to complete the meal. We were neither rushing, nor dawdling—the courses came at a measured pace. The meal was not stunning, but it was good and very well presented. We were pleased that it was not too heavy, just the perfect amount. Bread and butter came with the meal. Our meals started with an amuse-bouche, which was different and delicious each night. One was zucchini and parmesan “cappuccino”, the other I think was a similar asparagus-based soup. The salad courses were not American-style salad (one featured meat, the other was a green gazpacho with burrata). We had lentil soup and chicken consumme. The main dish was a broiled meat and potatoes. The desserts were not huge, but tasty. Wine pairings were served with an explanation for 3 of the courses.

What a beautiful castle and interesting rooms! Staying here was the highlight of our Germany-Austria vacation. We stayed in the Sieben Jungfrauen Suite which was beautiful and had 2 patios – large deck facing the Rhine and the other facing the inside court area. The room was large and the bed and furniture very comfortable. The food was wonderful, and the accommodations spectacular. There are lots of places to relax and enjoy the breathtaking views! I always wanted to take a Rhine cruise, but this was so much better by actually staying at a castle. There are day boat trips (K-D Line) that stop in Oberwesel, or you can drive to other castles. We had the best seat on the Rhine and watched the ship traffic all day. Staff was friendly and helpful. You can even tour one of the towers in the castle and see how they lived. Wonderful stay and can’t wait to come back.

We chose this property to adjust to Central European time after our journey from California. We could not have been happier with the hotel, the location, the accommodation and the staff. While the approach to the hotel wasn't easy, it was manageable.

We stayed at the Castle hotel in July 2022. This is a must-see hotel with the most amazing views and rooms. The breakfast was the absolute best I've ever had in Germany. The castle hotel is beautiful, and the staff is so friendly and will do anything to make this a stay to remember forever, can't recommend enough, will stay again.

Staying in an authentic medieval castle was tremendously fun! We had a suite in a 2 level cottage within the castle walls but with it's own entrance. The decor and ambiance were fantastic, the staff was very friendly, and the location high on a hill overlooking the Rhine River was impressive. Dinner was included in the price of our stay, and it was excellent. This is a really a cool place to visit when you're in Germany!

We had the most beautiful stay in a tower room (Turmzimmer No. 22). There were incredible little pieces and touches within the room that all screamed medieval vibes. Four poster bed, big bath with gold accents, beautiful leaded windows with stunning views, and a tiny little balcony not for the faint hearted! We ate dinner in the restaurant, also stunning, and then breakfast also delicious. We got a little memento medieval style poster given to us as a gift to commemorate our stay. Beautiful touch!

The overall impression I got from this castle and it's location are both magnificent. It is surrounded by an vast garden which is tastfully designed and invites you to stay for longer. My room had an ancient atmosphere yet with the comfort of modern hotel rooms. Just the wifi was a bit slow and there was a lack of plugs to connect my gadgets. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. I would have appreciated that people would wear masks indoors and that the air of the restaurant would be refreshed regularlay which was not the case at all. So I hope there will be no bad covid memory from this wonderful stay.
