Cala Piccola is one of the most beautiful areas of Monte Argentario. The hotel could be really fantastic but is let down by poor service, sub par rooms, noise and a poor quality restaurant. The junior suite that we booked was on top of the restaurant, noisy and all the smells of smoke and fried food coming into the room. When asked to change we were told only for 900 a night. The restaurant is touristy quality and disappointing. The beach that the hotel is affiliated with is really beautiful, and the restaurant there is fantastic, both for lunch and dinner! We’ve stayed in almost every hotel in Argentario and this one was our biggest let down.

Pros: Stunning location Staff were all very nice but only opened up with a good bit of British charm. Seriously lacking at this hotel. Cons: Bathroom was very old and worn. For the price you pay one would expect a first rate bathing experience; this did little more than match a 80 euro a night or worse bathroom. Photos show this. Top end bathrooms and I might return. Breakfast was a bit miserly. Claiming to be a four star hotel you need to get the egg girls out doing eggs of your choice in the breakfast room and not charging 4 euros for a freshly boiled egg or 8 euros for fried eggs. How many eggs could you buy for 8 euros. Come on. Eight euros for a beer. Crivens. Upon check out, we did indeed check the bill and to our surprise two charges for the beach. Two days prior Before we had arrived they rang me, up selling the beach spaces and I politely declined. This was again declined at check in. So how two 15 Euro charges were placed on the bill really puzzles me. One has to select a day and time for a booking. We did neither; I must conclude this can’t be a mistake. Not a bad game at 30 euros a customer if you can get away with it. This sort of behaviour ranks very, very low amongst the wines and spirits Jeeves.

This hotel is in the most spectacularly beautiful location, with swimming in an infinity pool to die for. But what also makes it special are the exceptionally warm and friendly staff, led by the owner who personally walks round each evening talking to guests. Good restaurant and rooms with wonderful views.

The only nice thing there is the position with its great view. The rooms look nice but you can hear everything - showers, foot steps and door opening of the place above and next door, everything. The staff at the reception are kind - the staff at the breakfast place are over challenged and got the orders wrong several times (coffee and stuff). We also prepared the table by ourselves.. And as we left after checkout, we carried the suit cases on our own. No issue with that but just further proof it is not worth being declared a four star hotel. The food quality for breakfast seems two star, max 3 star at best. If it didn’t have that view, it would definitely seem to be a 3 star hotel at best. In the room, they left 30 ml water bottles which we assumed are for free as in most hotels. They charged 2 eur each time as we found out later. Basically, you get less than what you could expect based on the price you pay for staying there.. but you also get less than what you get in any other hotel (not even a bottle of still water for free). Overall the room is worth 200 to 250 euros a night mainly thanks to its position but definitely not 400 eur. Last time we came here, not recommended .
