We have visited twice now with our 7 year old son and every time we leave we say we'll have to return soon! The setting is stunning overlooking the river Minho. The house and wooden chalets are in a beautiful garden with a pool and grassy areas to be in. The owner Robin and his dog Broc always make us feel welcome. Robin is super helpful in finding areas you may want to visit. Best of all is the beautiful walk down to the river through eucalyptus trees.
My husband and I booked for a week and wished we’d booked for more. As it was Galicia and late in the season we expected changeable weather and were prepared with jumpers and macs, but when the mist cleared in the early mornings we had a warm sunny seven days. . A wonderful place to kick back and soak up the sun, swim in the pool and enjoy beautiful views of Portugal from the terrace or explore fabulous sea and river beaches just a short walk or drive away. We stayed in one of the Casitas, which were cosy and well equipped. We like to eat in as well as sample local cuisine and the kitchen had everything a master chef needs and Robin was on hand to provide any extras needed. Robin was a friendly and accommodating host, nothing was too much trouble and he pointed us at some of the best locations for fabulous food, great walks and amazing views, a mine of local information. We were so taken with the area, he even took us to visit some properties for sale I’m not a dog or cat lover, but, much to my children’s amazement, I fell in love with Robin’s dogs Broc, and Dylan and cats Minnie and Pixie who all made us feel welcome and at home. Fabulous place. Looking forward to returning.…
Finca Rio Mino was the perfect base for our trip to Galicia. Our two children never got tired of exploring the garden, having fun in the pool and spending a lot of time with the two friendly dogs Broc and Dylan. It made a wonderful change to the busy campsites we are more used to in France. Robin is a fantastic host and having an English speaking guide to the area was invaluable, he was able to point us in the right direction to find English speaking pharmacies and doctors that saved us a lot of hassle. We were lucky to have arrived in the middle of a heat wave so we were able to explore the nearby beaches and the fantastic scenic drives. It is also only a few minutes drive across the bridge to the beautiful villages in Northern Portugal. The chalets are basic but quite roomy compared to the mobile homes you find in typical campsites, the view from the deck is stunning. Everything was clean and well maintained, Robin was always on hand to help with any queries and even helped fix a problem with the electrics in our rental car. The pool was always clean and has a secure gate to keep young children safe. Highly recommended for families.…
Finca Rio Minho is a tranquil haven of fruit trees, swimming pool, main house and two simple wooden chalets overlooking the Rio and Portugal. We stayed a week and wished we had booked it a second one. The river beach is 10 mins walk away with not many people there and a tapas bar for refreshments. There are further beaches a few miles further up river and the water is warm in the Summer. We went with our little boy and saw local festivals, castles, Portugal, music and the Atlantic. Robin and his dogs make everyone feel very welcome. Well worth a visit.
This is a fabulous place to get away from it all - so peaceful and yet with lots to do right on the doorstep. We stayed in one of the lodges and particularly enjoyed the balcony area even in the rain - it's partially covered . The pool and barbie area are lovely as are the grounds. There is plenty to do in the surrounding areas and as everyone else mentions Robin is a fabulous host - thoughtful and nothing too much trouble. Great local tapas bar within walking distance and excellent restaurants nearby too. we really hope to be back .
Just returned from yet another visit. The tranquility of this place is awe-inspiring, - the view over the river Minho to Portugal. The irony of the church bells ring an hour's difference either side of the river.! Charm personified. The host - as always -cannot seem to do enough for his guests. The dogs exemplary friendly ...one of which is a great character ! - I'm sure he remembers guests - he is so welcoming ! We stayed as before - in the Lodges. Some would say they are 'dated' perhaps ....but to us - the authenticity of the whole place is its rustic charm. The 'of a previous age' to us, is part of what the place is ! As always, the place, be it the Lodges or the Cottage, - impeccably clean and tidy. Glorious walks and numerous traditional eating places to us makes the place complete. Cross the river to the Saturday market - bliss - fantastic market. Baiona is a fabulous seaside resort with lovely beaches within a short drive. St Iago de Compestela is about 2 hours away - spectacular architecture and a pleasant drive. Of course there is a major airport here in St Jago....as well as the Oporto Airport,- the latter being the nearest. Planning on going back in June for a week - and looking forward to some fishing ! Hopefully it will be warm enough to take advantage of the lovely swimming pool !…
Had a lovely time at Finca Rio Mino but unfortunately after 5 days of sunshine we had clouds and rain. We decided to move on as the weather forecast had given bad weather for the rest of our stay, it seems Galician weather is very unpredictable even in August. We stayed in one of the lodges, they are very basic but fine, although I think they are overdue a refurb and tidy up throughout. The Pool is great, the river beach is nothing spectacular but it is nice. One thing to remember is the sea is very cold to swim in. Robin is a great host and we loved the dogs.
We've just come back from a really memorable holiday with our three children staying at the Cottage at Finca Rio Mino. The weather was wonderful, allowing the children to swim in the beautiful pool everyday. In fact, they would have been happy to remain at the Finca all day, but there was so much to see that we dragged them out at least once a day to go on various day trips. Robin was a perfect host, booking a table at the local restaurant for us (Lagar - lovely) and arranging cycle hire as well as alerting us to festivals happening in the area so that we didn't miss out. There are lots of lovely beaches in the area as well as interesting towns. It was always so nice to return to the seclusion of the Finca at the end of every day. Thoroughly relaxing. We'd love to come back again some day.…
First of all, just wanted to say that I really enjoyed staying in your cottage. The accommodation (the cottage) was very nice and the garden and grounds are really wonderful. It was a delight to wake up and look out of the bedroom window at such a lovely view and hear the birds singing and the sound of the water fountain. I have found it very relaxing and cannot believe that I have spent more than two weeks here. I can honestly say that I will miss being here and am not looking forward to being back in England.
We loved our stay in the cottage. We really appreciated Robin's advice about walks, where to eat, see the best views, markets etc. It was a treat not having to get in the car to walk to the river beach or the brilliant tapas restaurant (that Robin booked for us). The location is amazing - fantastic views and beautifully kept grounds. We enjoyed the company of the dogs and felt really welcome. We were lucky with the weather at the end of August and loved out taste of Galicia. We will be back - there is so much more to see.
