Detailed Reviews
This is the second time we have stayed here and unfortunately it wasn’t as good as the first time.
We had a nice room on the first visit with a lovely big bathroom that was clean and modern. However our second visit showed us that you can’t always rely on past information.
The room was much smaller which didn’t really bother us as there was still enough room to put things however the bathroom was a different story. It had a shower over the bath and at first I was pleased as I sometimes like to have a bath if I have time. Sadly I decided against that when I saw the state of the grouting around the tap area of the bath. I didn’t want to have to lie in the bath and be staring at that during my soak. The other problem was the shower screen was far too short and didn’t reach the top of the bath hence the water went all over the floor when having a shower.
The other downside with the Hotel is there aren’t many free parking spaces and big vehicle owners beware the spaces are not massive. There’s plenty of paid parking near by so I don’t know if you get any sort of discount if you have to use those as we’ve always been lucky enough to get a free one so it might be worth checking that with the hotel.
The really good point for this hotel is the location. It is only a few mins walk into the heart of the city and it is right next to a lovely park area. There are also lots of restaurants along the street from the Hotel so you have plenty of choice on your doorstep. Whilst we didn’t have breakfast this time we did have it on our other visit and that was very nice with a nice selection of self service items. However be warned that the eggs are not hard boiled. Unless we missed the sign we thought they were and only found out they were raw and to be cooked yourself when Hubby cracked one onto his plate. It may be there was a sign though so that would be our fault for not seeing it.
All in all the Hotel has many good points but sadly on this occasion the bathroom was a huge disappointment especially after having had such a lovely room first time round.

We stayed for one night during a heatwave. The room had an excellent air conditioner, and the receptionist supplied us with a bottle of chilled water when we arrived.
A large, comfortable bed and a well-equipped bathroom, including a decent hair dryer.
Very close to the old town, we walked out for an evening meal.
Breakfast was great, a wide choice of homemade breads, cakes, pastries and jams.
We’d love to stay here again.

Response from Fanny Vial, Directeur général at Hôtel La Réserve de Brive

Thank you very much for your nice comment. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay in our hotel, and particularly your welcome and the breakfast. Our air conditioning system is indeed very efficient and quiet. And we are happy to be able to provide our customers with carafes of still or sparkling filtered water. Looking forward to welcoming you next time.

The hotel was very pleasant, with a terrace, bar and at the back a breakfast room. The public car park at the front had about eight parking spaces at the side of the hotel reserved for residents. The decor was largely grey, black and white. Sadly, there were tiny chips out of the dark grey woodwork, everywhere. We had a family room, which was all that was available when we booked. It consisted of two bedrooms, a separate toilet between them and a bathroom off one of the bedrooms.
The toilet was tiny, very narrow and only about 40cm from door to pan, with no extractor fan.
The head-height fitting was loose so that the shower head could not be put in it. Although it took us only a minute to screw this back together, we shouldn’t have had to do this - the issue should have been picked up by cleaners, reported and sorted.
The lights had no, or only wire, shades and were much too bright/harsh.
A kettle and a small fridge (as we had in other hotels) would have been good. Breakfast at the hotel was 12 euros, with tea/coffee, juice, cereals, bread/pastries and preserves, eggs, charcuterie, cheese, yogurt and fruit.

Well located in the centre of Brive with a few free car park spaces. Otherwise it is on-street parking free from 7 pm to 9 am and cheap during the day. You can easily walk to the historical part of Brive which is lovely and mainly pedestrian. There is a market a few meters away which opens early and sells local delicacies.
The building has character and the rooms of my mother and mine had both a different layout.
There is no lift and the lady at reception carried the suitcase of my mother up the stairs. The staff are professional and super helpful. However, receptionnists sometimes disappear to work elsewhere in the hotel and the wait at reception can be tedious.
The rooms are clean and modern, with air con and TV. They miss a small fridge and a kettle. They are quiet despite the central location.
The bathrooms need modernising and I kept flooding mine every time I showered.
The breakfast room is large with lots of apparent bricks and a big fireplace. The breakfast itself is delicious and worth paying the extra cost.

My wife and I spent one night here in the standard double room. The room, which was very clean, was small but adequate for a night. Although only a double bed, the bed was suitably firm. We only had interactions with staff for checking in and out, but that was quick and friendly. The hotel is perfectly situated for visiting the historic center of Brive and restaurants. The only quibble is that free parking is noted for the hotel. However, we checked in at 6:30 PM and the few parking spots were already taken by other guests. That was not a real problem as we could park at the city lot in front of the hotel for free as long as we moved our car by 9 AM. I have no regrets about staying at this hotel and quite likely would choose to do so if we came by here again.

Had a lovely one night stay in this charming, small independent hotel in the centre of Brive. A very friendly welcome, a comfortable room and a great breakfast. Our hosts were very helpful with local knowledge and with restaurant recommendations. Highly recommended.

The Inn is amazing we highly recommend it! We only stayed one day but everything was perfect. Lunch is super good, and the place ideally placed. The staff is welcoming and the rooms clean! At the reception they even give us a map of the city with the best addresses to eat or visit!

The lady who helped us check in, who also served us dinner in the restaurant was very nice and friendly - but no one else was. The wifi was broken. The coffee machine at breakfast was broken. When you're on a road trip without cell service, hard to do without wifi for maps and booking the hotel for the next destination. That left us wandering around the little town trying to find a wifi cafe. Also not as easy as you'd expect. The room was very clean, as was the bathroom. The walls were paper thin however. Bath was good (many hotels only have showers) and the water was hot. So, not all bad.

We spent about a week at Le Chapon Fin back in the summer and have directed numerous friends there for visits since. First, I was shocked by the value, great pricing on rooms (not so great pricing on breakfast... but we found there are not a lot of other decent options around). Second, the staff could not have been more accommodating. From changing our reservation multiple times without a complaint to storing some luggage for us to always greeting with a smile and warm word, the front desk people were wonderful. By the end of our stay we'd also become friends with the bar and restaurant staff, who are always a pleasure to talk to. The hotel is in a perfect location at the start of a main walking road through centreville and next to a parking lot which plays host to a popular street market throughout the week. This hotel is easy to reach from the train station (10-15 min walk or bus ride on the free navette to stop W Churchill). They also have limited but available parking if you come by car, ask. My only negative mark on the hotel is the hard beds, but the other comforts like AC and heat, and flexible helpful staff, more than make up for it. We also had one dinner in the restaurant and greatly enjoyed it.
