On the banks of the Rhône, at the gateway to the famous city of the Popes, fall under the charm of the Hôtel La Magnaneraie. Located on the heights of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, our hotel invites you to take a quiet break and enjoy the peace and quiet of our garden and our heated outdoor swimming pool. A former country house, a place for feasting in the 16th century, which became a magnanerie - a silkworm farm - and then a wine estate in the 20th century before finding its hotel vocation in the 1970s, La Magnaneraie joined Najeti Hotels & Golfs Collection in 2000. Since then, the house has been reborn to offer its guests an intimate, warm and refined setting, making the dolce vita of Provence a true art of living. La Magnaneraie now offers a perfect alchemy of tradition and modernity, from the cosy interiors to the fragrant Mediterranean garden with its two 200-year-old plane trees.

Be warned - THE WIFI DOES NOT WORK AT THIS HOTEL! So if you're dependent on it for trip planning etc, you'll need to head down the hill and into the village by car to a cafe. We arrived and the twin room I'd booked for myself and my mom was not ready at 5:45pm. The room was very tiny, and for my disabled mom was difficult to get around. There's no elevators so the stairs to all of the rooms were a bit of a struggle too. Literally zero amenities in the rooms. Just two warm bottles of water - not even a cup to pour the water into, nothing! Cheap-looking soap dispenser was the best amenity (only amenity!) in the room. Pretty grounds but seemed a bit run down, I didn't fancy the look of the pool. Staff tried very hard to make the stay pleasant but I certainly wouldn't go back. For what we got, I'd expect to pay about half the price. And no matter where I go, these days any hotel in civilisation should have functioning wifi.

On the whole a very good hotel, but with a couple of negatives. On our arrival at 16:00 the room was not ready, there were no curtains or blinds on the bathroom of room 4 that overlooks the main road and the evening food is very limited in selection. On the positives, the hotel pool is very cooling when the air temp is 38 Deg.C, the staff were all very friendly and helpful and breakfast was more than adequate with continental selection as well as sausage, scrambled egg and bacon. The room was very comfortable with a huge double bed. There was an issue with the water in the bathroom. On the Saturday morning only steam came out of the hot taps and on the Sunday there was no water in the morning at all. Reception staff were very apologetic and an emergency plumber did manage to fix the problem.

My wife and I stayed four nights in a "Luxury Room" in the Najeti Hotel la Magnaneraie in late October, 2019. First let me state that this is a great time of year to tour Provence. Traffic on the secondary roads was light, fellow tourists in the towns and sites visited were few, and the temperature averaged about 20 degrees (70F). For us this was perfect and relaxing. This hotel we thought was a great location for car touring Provence. Roussillon, Baux, Nimes, Uzes, Gordes, Arles, and other sites in between were all less than an hour drive away, and of course we connected several on each day we "headed out". Of course Avignon centre was a 5 minute drive to a free parking lot along the river, a 4 minute free bus shuttle to the town wall, and about a 10 minute walk to the centre of town. We did this excursion to Avignon for 3 evenings. We preferred eating in town where food service was available before the traditional 7:30pm (just not our time for eating, which is generally eating light). Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by Stephanie, who was always most helpful with directions and recommendations. A real bonus for us was that we could park our little rental car right outside the main entrance, and come and go with ease. The room was spacious, with a desk, table and chairs, and a very large bathroom with two sinks and large counter, a separate toilet enclosure, and a tub with a hand held sprayer. I would have preferred an actual shower, but no big deal. The room was very clean and neat, and the bed was comfortable. The choice of foods for breakfast was not anywhere near as extensive as was experienced in other French or Italian hotels, but it was fine for us as we both tend to prefer a simple breakfast of cereal, breads, fruit, and coffee. Also, I do believe that the hotel at this time of year did not have a lot of guests, and providing an extensive spread of food with inevitable waste would be foolish. To summarize, this is a fine hotel with quality rooms and facilities in an attractive village that for drivers is conveniently located for visits to various areas of Provence. The parking, for us, was a necessity. I believe almost religiously in the recommendations of Rick Steves when travelling in Europe, But I prefer substantially staying in the Avignon area for a Provence "home base" rather than his recommended Arles. I do want to mention as well that staff were impressively courteous and helpful, and pleasure veto meet.

I spent 3 nights here in September 2019 and was very pleased. There are two sections to the hotel. The original building itself and a newer wing. My room was in the original building and it was very nice. My room faced the street and did catch the evening road noise when cars seem to really speed up and down the hill in front of the hotel. But I'm a heavy sleeper so it was fine. There is a beautiful outdoor area behind the main hotel where you can take meals during the summer. Just a few blocks down the hill you will find little markets and lots of little cafes. We rode bicycles and really enjoyed the lovely ride from the hotel to Avignon for a day of sightseeing. WiFi was decent, The restaurant is very good and the pool area is very nice too. Only drawback was the lack of a hot pot / in-room coffee or tea. I'd happily stay here again.

We are renting a villa nearby and needed a place to stay the day before we could take possession. This turned out to be a perfect choice. Beautiful and surprisingly expansive property, nicely appointed rooms, and an excellent restaurant. We arrived latish, having flown in from the states, and were warmly greeted. We did not need a reservation for dinner (which while delicious, cost as much as the room with a bottle of wine - but we’re okay with that)ja

Stayed here 9 years ago and now in 2019. Still lovely and quiet. Dinner at the hotel is excellent and reasonable although there are some lovely gems in town too. Balconies attached to rooms are very private. Good launch point for day trips with a car.

Even with Google maps, this hotel was a bit challenging to find, and for a property this size in the suburbs there were only seven dedicated parking spots. The woman at reception who greeted us was quite surly and let us know that our arrival interfered with her planned break. Two other staff scrambled to positively intervene. The two male porters we encountered were very cheerful, ready to help and a bit over extended in their job having to carry bags, room service, etc. Public space was large and adequate. The terrace and garden were really quite pretty and tranquil, the pool being on the other side of the building. Pool hours were regulated so guests facing the pool would not be disturbed at night. Rooms were comfortably large, but only adequately furnished. The overall décor was very tired and in need of refreshing. Bathrooms had both shower and tub with toilet in a separate room which was convenient. Cleaning ladies were polite, kind and energetic. Breakfast was chaotic. While having coffee served was no problem, the kitchen and servers simply could not keep the buffet supplied. Food choices were simple, so a kitchen has really no excuse for this. Supper was included on our first night. What a mistake! Neither food quality nor price was acceptable; table service was fine. We mentioned it at check-out and our comment was overlooked. At best, the hotel would rate at a moderate chain style hotel; at worst, it should cease food service or have a fairly major managerial overhaul. A generous score would be a 3 out of 5 for our stay.

Returned after 8 years for a one week stay in August. Good to meet Paul Alexander Campbell - Directeur du Najeti Hotel la Magnanerie once again, still smiling and as helpful as ever. All the staff made our stay very enjoyable but I must give a special mention to the restaurant staff who made the superb cuisine of Chef Laurent CROS even more delightful. We were half board and had a set menu which was limited for choice but were given a generous allowance when we asked to swap to the a la carte menu on a couple of occasions so we could try the stuffed zucchini flowers and other fabulous dishes. We stayed in a ground floor Lux Room (25) good access with a terrace overlooking the garden, plenty of space with a good sized bathroom, double sinks, bath & larger than average shower cubical plus separate toilet. Dressing gowns provided and bottled water replenished daily Bed was comfortable and the aircon worked well & quiet on the low setting although the shade provided by the trees in the garden kept the room cool throughout the day and there was no need to use it. Pool area was clean and well maintained with plenty of towels available. Will definitely return (but sooner than 8 years next time!) Many thanks to all at Hotel la Magnanerie for making our stay a visit to remember
