We stayed at the Maison du Notaire Royal for three nights in May. Our large room had a balcony overlooking the historical square. The owners Pierre-Henri and his wife were helpful, the price was reasonable, and the home is historical--three things we loved about it. We definitely recommend this for people who are visiting Sarlat and the Dordogne.

Pierre-Henri went above and beyond to ensure our trip to Sarlat and the surrounding areas was the best it could be. He offered advice on where to go, recommendations on where to dine and what to see and wonderful directions. He also has a room full of guide books in various languages as well as maps for his guests to...

Tucked away amongst the cobbled streets of Sarlat is this wonderful bed and breakfast run by Pierre-Henri and Dianne Toulemon. We stayed a week here and had a wonderful time. The upstairs rooms are obviously the best and if booking see if you can get the room with a balcony - the downstairs room is a bit dark but the...

Undoubtedly, given the rave reviews I've read, the Toulemon chambres d'hote are wonderful hotel rooms. Unfortunately, we opted for the detached gite, Tapis Vert 2, 300 meters from the center of town, which was a disappointment. The light fixtures dangled, the furniture in the sitting area was inadequate (two single beds, one wicker chair, and a coffee table), and the...

This was our first stay in a B&B and we were very delighted with it. We were first referred this accommodation through the local taxi driver (Phillipe). At the time of booking we could only go by reviews on the internet so we were a bit unsure of the place but we were definitely not disappointed. We stayed in the...

We stayed in the cottage and were more than pleased with everything! The owners are extremely helpful and friendly. The cottage was very private while being a five minute walk from the main square. This made it cool and comfortable even the end of June. All appliances where available in the cottage and the kitchen was very well supplied. The...

We have been repeat visitors to this place. After reading the one negative review here, I felt an urge to comment. On one trip to Sarlat, we arrived much later than expected. Instead of waking the Toulemon family at the late hour, we stopped instead at a Best Western Hotel. That cost almost 3 times what we paid at Toulemon's...

I loved this place, both the room and the town. The room is in a guest house owned by Pierre. It's so much more charming than a typical hotel. Pierre is very nice, speaks English, and is more than happy to tell you about the area and give advice on what to see. He also provides several books on the...

inkacola is exactly correct. We obviously stayed in the same room. Superb location approx. 30metres from the town square. M. Toulemon is a real gentleman, has an excellent knowledge of the Perigord region, has written itineraries for guests to use and provides the best croissants we tasted in all of France. The room was large, light and airy, modern bathroom,...

Having never stayed in a Chambre d'Hotes, we were a bit nervous --but what a pleasant surprise! La Maison du Notaire Royal is a wonderfully atmospheric old mansion in the center of Sarlat. We had an enormous room, with a comfortable bed, good reading lights, a table and chairs, and a balcony overlooking the main square (Saturday market) --no tv...
