Located in a beautiful, secure, serene setting, Poza Blanca Lodge exceeded all of our expectations! From the minute the gate opened, we felt we entered another universe. We were amazed at the gorgeous natural landscaping and surroundings, the quality of craftsmanship throughout, and the outstanding hospitality and service offered by Maria Jose and her staff. The rooms are modern, impeccably clean and stylish. The mattress, bedding and towels were all five star worthy! Maria Jose took care of our every need, and went above and beyond to make sure we felt at home. As a native Costa Rican, she was able to give us lots of local tips and helped with translating, since we don't speak the language. The lodge is located right on the pristine Machuca river, and we loved swimming there! I highly recommend this hidden gem in San Mateo!

We stayed there for one night after arriving in CR. Only 45 minutes from the airport and yet another world. Nice and tranquil place at a small river, nice bungalows and large restaurant area which makes physical distancing really easy. A very important point for me was also that San Mateo is one of the safest places in the whole country , practically completely free of covid.
Very nice young people who run the place.

Our quick one night stay at Hotel Boutique Poza Blanca was really nice. We arrived in the afternoon and they were able to get us settled in a little early and help us arrange transportation to our evening destination. We had a great conversation with the daughter of the owners.
They check temperatures on arrival to the property and get you directed to the right place. We were in Room #10 which is down a long flight of stairs however the reward is being basically on the river with a great patio for quiet relaxation and some bird watching.
When we returned from our evening the place was jumping! The restaurant and bar were full and people seemed to be having a great time. We were tired though and went straight to our quiet bed.
Breakfast is included and our desayuno tipico (typical breakfast of Gallo Pinto, Egg, Plantain, Cheese) was delicious! The staff is friendly and gracious (and did carry our bags down and back up the stairs). We’d love to return and stay longer in the future.

What a delight to open the balcony doors and hear the river rushing by and the sounds of the jungle and all the life force it contains thruming in the background. It was truely a delight and since I was a female traveling on my own the staff went out of their way to arrange transport and tours for me and kept up with where I was so I always felt very safe and cared for. The food was amazing and It was close to my new land in Alegria so I feel like I already know my new neighbors and they are wonderful.

This is a hidden jewel in the small town of St Mateo. It is a perfect place to be in family. It is a small hotel, next to the river and away from the road. It is peaceful and quiet. I came with my family from Texas. We had a wonderful time!. The food is great and fresh. Filippo is an amazing Italian chef that makes his own bread, crusty pizza and other delicious dishes that can be paired with the excellent selection of wines they have. We were fortunate enough to be on the debut of ‘coco’ another chef that started another line of meals for the meat lovers. The churrasco was just perfect!.
My daughters had a blast there. Their staff is so personable and since the hotel is small you get to know them by first name. I just felt like home.
At night the rooms are fresh with their own AC and super quiet!. The beds are very very comfortable!! Usually I sleep 6-7 hours and in those beds I slept 8-9 hrs every day!!. The owner are doing a great job!!!. Keep it up!!.

My wife and I stayed here for a week while looking at property in San Mateo. The remodel of the rooms is very luxurious and the grounds are beautiful. The sound of the river is soothing and the smells of the flowers are intoxicating. Maria, Jason, their family and team always go above and beyond to help you enjoy your stay and offer tips about local things and the river. If staying near San Mateo I highly recommend you stay here. This is also a good central location for adventures in all directions.

Wonderful two night stay. Hidden in the hills of San Mateo this is a lovely boutique hotel. The grounds are immaculate with a small pool and a cute playground for children. Our room was beautifully designed, well furnished with a small balcony to sit and enjoy the early morning or evening. The bathroom was large and included all the amenities of a top rated hotel. Breakfast was lovely and their morning coffee excellent. They have a restaurant but we did not eat there. Great location for a day trip to Jaco and the costal area or a stop on the way to La Fortuna. Enjoy. You won’t be disappointed.

Lovely hotel with spacious rooms and nice beds. Small pool and a jacuzzi. A playground, playfield and a trampoline for the kids. And just a small walk to the river, where you can swim and give yourself a skin treatment with white clay.
Everything was clean, food was good, staff friendly. Really recommend this place. Friendly and helpfull manager (with a lovely daughter, Valentina!).
Definitely recommend this place, hope we can come back soon!

We have just got back to the UK having stayed six nights at Poza Blanca Lodge. The lodge was immaculately clean, and very reasonably priced. Maria, who owns / runs it was fluent in English and the perfect hostess, nothing was too much trouble for Maria and all her staff.
We had an excellent Continental breakfast each day and the pizzas were as good as any we’ve had all over the world!
A green oasis in the Tropics!
We highly recommend Poza Blanca!

Very nice space. Friendly workers. Two small issues for the price.
1.) The pillows were not very comfortable. I wish they could source more supple pillows similar to a Marriot or down or down alternative
2.) In my unit the bathroom vanity door would slide open as it was at a slight incline and would not hold firm, so the vanity drawer was always open.
Otherwise, the room and ground were neat and clean. Accessing the river below was also really nice!
