I have just returned from a mid-week to mid-week stay at the Geier Hotel in Torbole, Lake Garda. Full COVID-19 rules applied during this visit, which, for all, took the edge of things somewhat. But hey…Taking the resort first, Torbole is a busy town and very popular with bikers, wind surfers and cyclists of either racing bike style or mountain biking. There are several trails for mountain bikers and walkers available. The town is also popular with Germans, many of whom use the motor camper van sites within the Community. Torbole is the first stop for ferries starting trips from nearby Riva del Garda at the northern end of the lake, a 1.5km walk along the lake edge. The Torbole navigation ticket office and ferry berth are a leisurely ten-minute walk from the hotel. Turning to the Geier, this is very well situated on the edge of the lake. Ugo is a very pleasant and accommodating manager of the hotel. My room was on the second floor, with twin beds and a small balcony. As a solo traveller, the second bed served as a repository for my suitcase. The continental style breakfast was fine, although this traveller missed a full English if only for one meal. But I was the only UK visitor in the hotel, if not in Torbole at large. As at least one other commentator has advised, the only plug point for mobile phone charging – where would we be without one those – was in the bathroom. Fortunately, with a fast charger unit, this was not a problem. By the time I had breakfast, all was good. Having tried a couple of eateries in the town, I settled on the “in-house” solution next door and offered by Ugo, with its 10% discount as a hotel guest. From the point of view of menus’, there was little in it. Why wouldn’t you? Good tucker, and for my taste, good beer. With two early starts, I was grateful for the “doggy bag” breakfast that Ugo provided. Housekeeping was excellent, and I was grateful for the air-conditioning as the humidity built during my stay. Free wi-fi was a big plus. A small point maybe, but I was disappointed to find that the only English-speaking channels on the TV were Bloomberg Europe and CNBC. Whilst the financial situation across Europe and the USA was of some interest, it would have been nice to have had access to the BBC World Service, as indicated on the TV brief in the room. Would I stay there again? Yes, because of the welcome by Ugo and his mother, the location, and the access to the ferry system that the resort offers.…
Just spent a week here. Great location right on the lake. We paid extra for a lake view room, which was large and contained a large bed, small table and 2 chairs, settee, dressing table, bathroom and walk in wardrobe. The only problem with the room was that there was no mirror above the dressing table and no electricity point either. This made it necessary to use the sockets in the bathroom, meaning I spent a long time in there getting ready. Hugo was very helpful but we had language problems with his mother. Although both were extremely attentive. The breakfasts were very good, with lots of choice of cereals, fruits, ham and cheese, bread, buns and preserves. The coffee from the machine was also very good. The room was kept clean, with changes of bed linen and towels. We asked Hugo if he could put up a notice explaining exactly where the pick up points for excursions were, as some people, including us were not given this information by the rep on our way from the airport, resulting in 4 people missing their pick up location. The reception area of the hotel is welcoming and there are restaurants, shops and bars within a short walking distance. We both thoroughly enjoyed our time at this hotel, even though we found the bed to be very hard, not good on my arthritic bones.…
Just got back from a 7 night break at this hotel and all I can say is that it is amazing! Great location overlooking the lake, the hotel is run by Hugo and his Mum and they are so helpful. Breakfast is continental style but there is so much choice! I can highly recommend this hotel
The hotel is in a really great location being on the lakeside and well situated for nearby restaurants and bars. The manager Hugo and his mother are very nice and helpful. We had breakfast,t which is mostly cereals and cold meats, and was nicely laid out each morning and when going on an early trip a packed breakfast was provided for us. The room we had was on the 3rd floor and had a balcony, one of the few so we were very lucky. We could sit out there in the evening and enjoy a quiet drink (which you can buy from the nearby supermarket - even got a Lidl not too far away). Overall a lovely place to stay.
