We spent two nights at this lovely hotel as part of our weeklong cycling tour in Abruzzo courtesy of ABCycle We loved this hotel. IOur room was bright and comfortable, and the hotel was wonderfully located close to the historical center. Their staff really showed us the true meaning of the word "hospitality. "We traveled with our tandem bike which comes apart for traveling, and after our tour, we needed a place to put it back into its suitcase home. The hotel gave us a great place to do it and even supplied us with some rags for cleaning it. Also, we inadvertently left something we needed at the hotel and were 40 miles away when they called us to tell us. To help us get it back, the hotel packaged it up securely for a courier to pick it up and bring it to us at our next destination. Sulmona is a lovely town, and the Hotel Santacroce Ovidius and Spa was the perfect home away from home to enjoy it.

A nice modern hotel which is very close to the old city. It has free of charge parking place which is very important if you arrive with a car. The staff is very helpful and the rooms are OK. You get a good Italian breakfast though there are better places nearby for dinner.

We enjoyed our time here so much. Hotel Ovidius is in a great location, on the edge of the historic centre of beautiful medieval Sulmona, where Ovidius, the famous poet was born in 53 BC. Outstanding management and staff, that were incredibly friendly, accommodating, supportive and helpful. Extremely comfortable room with beautiful views of the mountains. Excellent breakfast in a panoramic dining room. A very high quality restaurant that serves an excellent dinner. The Santacroce Guesthouse is also a real treat with balconies facing onto the Main Street of the historic centre of Sulmona. Sulmona is just two and half hours drive from Rome, two and a half hours from Naples and less than one hour from the Pescara airport. There are many restaurants in Sulmona and nearby serving unforgettable and mouth watering traditional Abruzesse cuisine at very reasonable prices. Close to the beautiful Adriatic sea and even closer to the dramatically stunning mountains of Abruzzo. Many of Italy’s top 100 most beautiful villages are located within a 90 minute drive. Cannot wait to return.

I am a very fussy traveler. Very fussy. I like everything to be super-clean and enjoy little luxurious details and friendly service, I've stayed at 5 star hotels within the USA, London and Paris yet this hotel ranks as one of my all-time favorites. The rooms are cleaned the moment you leave your room - and it is a 'white-glove' cleanliness that any military captain would be proud of - yet this cleanliness doesn't just extend to the bedrooms but also to the dining area where each table is impeccably decorated with fresh table linens and flowers, immediately cleaned after each persons departure and ready for the next visitor. The dining staff is so friendly (we love Nunziatina!) also provides excellent espresso, capuccino's and/or drinks flowing the moment you sit in the dining room. Their breakfast is an Italian continental breakfast (of salami, cheeses and delicious pastries with scrambled eggs and bacon) but the hotel staff were also very accomodating to special requests, like making French crepe for breakfast on our last day as a very special treat to my little boy, and setting up a dining table on their outside patio (an area generally only used for outdoor cocktails and/or happy hour) for us to have an outdoor family dinner on an exceptionally beautiful and starry italian evening. The beds are surprisingly comfortable and the other big thing is that the air conditioner not only works (this is BIG for Italy) but nearly soundless. I cannot express enough how friendly and wonderful the hotel staff is, truly lovely people. Although this hotel doesn't have an outdoor pool, their other hotel (Hotel Santacroce Meeting) has 2 outdoor pools, is only minutes away and free to hotel travelers which we used on several hot days with our kids but we preferred this hotel (Hotel Ovidius) since it was within walking distance of the main piazza for strolling and enjoying the Italian 'dolce vita'. We truly enjoyed Hotel Ovidius...it combines old-world style with modern exceptionalism that any world-class traveler would enjoy.
