Detailed Reviews
A group of seven of us turned up here in the evening, looking for accomodation for that night. We tried a couple of places which couldn't help, then we found the Mondschein which is right on the main street and looks like the stereotypical Alpine hotel with balconies and lots of fancy woodwork. The staff were friendly, welcoming and offered us a very good deal for bed and breakfast.
I was impressed with the size, cleanliness and quality of the decor in the rooms, which were warm and comfortable. I was in a front facing room with a veranda, and the views of the Dolomites were spectacular.
We ate (and drank) in the hotel restaurant that evening and had breakfast there in the morning. Everyone enjoyed their meals - no quibbles at all.
Would I go back - definitely!

We stayed in the Mondschein a few years ago as we passed on the bus up to the Tre Cimine. We hopped off and it was great. This July, we booked for two nights as part of our annual Dolomiti holiday. It is still very good and comfortable being one of the oldest established hotels in the village. Like most Alpine hotels it is family run and very hospitable. The rooms are comfortable and sleep quality is good. Breakfasts are excellent, as are the evening dinners. The food is delicious and portions are generous. The Mondschein is recommended if you are in this part of the world. The half board prices are extremely reasonable.

Last summer, on a motorcycle trip, I had planned to stay at the top of the pass, but by the time I got there, the hotel was full, so I headed down the valley road, and when I saw the "pizzeria" sign I pulled over. By that time (18:30) I wasn't going to be picky, so while 46 Euro for a single seemed a little steep, I took it. The room was clean and comfortable, and quiet, even though the hotel is on the main drag through town. I had planned to eat elsewhere, but ended up having a pizza and salad in the small outdoor seating area, where I watched the setting sun kiss the tops of the Dolomites, turning them first red, then orange, then pink. The pizza was excellent. The staff was courteous, and there is parking (open air) next to the hotel. I'd certainly stay there again

Hotel Mondschein is a clean and attractive hotel, with an attractive price. But it seems that they cut corners as much as possible to reduce the costs. For example, there is normally no one at the reception. Someone usually comes quickly when you ring the bell, but the experience leaves one cold. More literally, I was freezing cold the first night there because there was no extra blanket and I had to request one later. Only on the 3rd night was the bed made properly with sheets, blanket plus duvet. There are assigned seats in the dining room, which is quite annoying, since my room had a terrible view and I wasn't even allowed to enjoy the view while eating. The waitress was cold and dour. Mr. Stabinger himself is also dour and perfunctory, though the man obviously works extremely hard, maybe too hard. Mrs. Stabinger was very kind and pleasant by email, but I barely saw her during my week-long stay. The internet was good, and there was an interesting mixed message: a non-smoking sign mounted in an ash tray! I stayed at another, similarly priced hotel in Sexten for one night, and really wished I'd booked there for the entire time.

This is a nice and comfortable hotel with very good breakfest. Mountain view room was spacy and clean. Hotel staff was friendly. There is also restaurant but with average food and staff with not big interest in guests.

We chose this hotel because of its location, price and half-board option. We were not disappointed by our choice at all. In fact, we opted to stay an extra night due to the service we received and wonderful hiking options around Sesto/Sexten. This hotel is truly a family affair which translated into catering for our family very well. It is cosy and personal. The meal options were excellent and definitely kept us fuelled for our hikes. Thanks for a great stay.

We stayed at Hotel Mondschein last week (June 2015) and had a great experience. The staff was very friendly and accommodating - for example, one morning we had an early hike that started before the official breakfast time but they let us get breakfast a little earlier. The room was beautiful and spacious with a great view. We opted for the mezza-pensione (breakfast & dinner) and we were always satisfied with the quality and quantity of the food, including the pizza option and included salad bar. Would definitely return and would definitely recommend for others in Sesto.

In the town of Sesto we stayed four days and we spent those skiing in the ski area of Sextner Dolomites, by the way a wonderful experience. Hotel Mondschein was ideal for us due to its location. It is situated in the town centre with shops near the hotel and to the cable car to Monte Elmo (ski area) it is only two minutes by car. Hotel has its own parking lot, large enough for all guests. Location in the town centre but also brings one minor unpleasantness. The hotel is next the church whose bells strike from 6am every quarter hour. If you sleep in a room with an open window, the bells wake you reliably up at 6am.
The staff are friendly and helpful, breakfast and dinner are rich and very tasty. If you book accommodation with half board, you choose meal for dinner from two options the day before. There is also another restaurant in the hotel where you can have dinner a la carte.
