I actually really liked the hotel but my partner had some genuine criticisms. We both thought the bedroom decor was outdated and the lighting left the rooms feeling rather dingy and in need of updating. But the sink and toilet in the bathroom looked modern and pretty new. The shower was excellent and there is a good amount of space with a desk and a booth type benches and table.
The bed and pillows were perfect for me and felt very cosy.
Service from everyone at Alpino Plan was absolutely excellent, they helped to take in a package sent for my partner and then kept it at reception ready for collection to return. No reasonable request was ever denied or made to feel like too much. The room and the hotel overall was exceptionally clean and standards never fell below that.
It was only a short 3-4 min walk in snow boots to the nearest bus stop and only a 5 min ride will take you to a chairlift with loads of ski rental shops across the road.
Buses were free to use with a pass given by our hotel although the buses themselves seemed to run erratically sometimes esp at weekends and evenings.
The food was slightly below my expectations of what I’ve previously had in Italy but was generally good overall. On Thursday we had an amazing chicken and pork chop each and I had to ask for seconds which they kindly cooked specifically just for me.
We did try a couple of cocktails from the bar and I’ll give them points for trying but it was lacking.
Breakfast was in a continental style and it was just the same stuff everyday. There was cold meats, various cereals, breads, pastries, dairy products and fruit etc so most people should be fairly happy.
The Wi-Fi upon arrival was dreadfully slow (2.4mbps) and from then on it just never seemed to work wherever I was in the hotel.
The ski room was good, it had its own internal door opposite reception and seemed to have an expensive and modern drying system. The hotel uses a contactless card system to access it from the outside which operated automatic doors and was a thoughtful touch.
Overall I wouldn’t mind staying here again for the very warm, friendly, pleasant service and the hotel had everything I needed. If there was room for improvement it would be with the food and the lighting, if not the decor in the rooms. Funnily my partner wouldn’t want to come here again but agrees with everything else I’ve mentioned
I have just had a terrific week staying at the Hotel Alpino Plan.
It was so refreshing to stay in a hotel which is not modern, flashy or impersonal but which has its foundation in good service, friendliness, homeliness, family, good food, history, trust and fun.
The welcome that the owning family of this hotel extends is enormous. The mainstay was provided by three siblings who worked so hard. Their father, in his late 80s and who bought the hotel in 1959 put in an occasional appearance.
I liked that the barman only ever asked our room number once and remembered each day what you might ask for. There were none of those chits to sign for drinks at the bar or at your table nor a scan of you your credit card at check in, they trust their guests. So refreshing.
The food was a treat. No cooked breakfast but every possible choice of good fresh fruit, bread and croissants as well as cereals, yogurt etc. The five course evening meals were varied and provided enough choice to suit everyone. We were fortunate to be there for a carnival dinner in the run up to Lent. Party hats were provided for diners and the staff dressed up. It was so much fun and the food was great.
The reception area is adorned with signed photos of ski racing greats and international ski teams who have stayed at Alpino Plan. Touching those I hoped that some of their skill might have rubbed off onto me but maybe not. If you want to move in the footsteps (ski tracks) of the great here’s the place.
Situated in a quiet location on the road out of Selva it is a 150 step walk to the bus stop and the nearest access to the slopes. Just enough to ease your boots in each morning and get the blood moving before you hit the slopes. The regular busses (included with your ski pass) run the full length of the valley giving access to and from the various towns, slopes and après-ski bars along the way. An external door leads straight into the boot room which has just been fitted with state of the art warm air boot driers.
Our room was large, comfortable, quiet, warm and the shower fantastic. The comfortable bed can be configured as a large Austrian Twin (king size) or as two separate singles. The TV didn’t have any English channels. We decided this was in fact a plus as we read or went to the bar to enjoy the company of others.
The free WiFi in the public areas does not extend to the bedrooms but good 4G coverage means you can still keep up with internet essentials.
I summary we though this was a great place to stay. It more than met our needs and exceeded our expectations. Thank you to everyone at Alpino Plan
Hotel. There is an overall aura of professionalism about the hotel management. All staff are helpful and charming, the food is amazing (really high quality and very delicious), the rooms are kept very clean (cleaned daily) with lots of secure hooks and storage for skiing clutter and our room had 2 adjustable radiators. There is a secure ski storage room. The common areas felt very welcoming and were well used. Locals dropped in to the bar for a coffee, beer or spritz and it is a community beyond the tourist trade.
We would definitely stay here again. Thank you, Hotel Alpino Plan - you made our holiday.
We were so impressed with how clean the hotel was, our towels were changed every day and our rooms tidied. All the staff are so friendly and nothing was too much for them. We stayed half board and were not disappointed- breakfast was continental buffet style and dinner was 5 courses. I'm a vegan and they were so accommodating, serving me different dishes each night - really putting in a lovely effort.
The hotel has a small bar and a wee tuck shop too, which was handy for the smokers and chocoholics!
There is a kit room to store your stuff which included boot driers, so everything was nice an dry the next day.
The decor is a wee bit dated but it doesn't matter when the place is spotless and the staff are excellent!
Highly recommend staying here and we will definitely book here again.
Location...it is about a 10 minute walk into the centre of town altho there are buses running back and forth every 15 mins from 100 metres away. Alternatively there are buses from outside the hotel every hour. You can ski to within 400 metres of the hotel and ski or walk from that piste stop, you can also use this to access the slopes as the track takes you into Val Gardena.
Now onto the food which was superb....after our initial 7 course NYE gala dinner we thought that would be the high point but far from it!! Every night a 4/5 course meal starting with salad bar, starter, pasta/soup, main course then pudding and the very high standard was maintained throughout the week.
The staff are a close knit family based crew and looked after us in all departments. We had an injury in our group and they were all concerned and did all they could to help out.
It's a huge 'YES' from us 4 and would recommend this as a fab VFM option.
Thanks to all the family and staff for looking after us last week x
I used the services of the hotel for a week with a group of friends, but, going to compare the quality-price with other hotels of superior quality, the price difference is not such as to prefer this hotel.
The hotel website reflects general incompetence: you cannot compare prices directly from the hotel’s own website, but you must use other booking sites. The cleanliness is not excellent, it would need a restyling; the half positive point is for the restaurant service, slightly improved compared to past years.
The building was of a traditional local design with lots of wood visible. All good quality. Reception area was well stocked with local tourist information leaflets.
Also included in the price of the stay was a local bus-pass. The hotel is well situated with regular bus services. Walking into town is also practical, taking about 15 minutes.
Ideal location for hiking or cycling in the summer months.
Here's a few tip if you stay here.
1. it is a hike to / from town for apres. The hotel bar is perfectly fine so you don't have to walk too far if you can't be bothered :);
2. The boot room is cozy, go early or leave til after 9 to avoid the squash from others; 3. You have choices to get to the piste:
a. walk to the Fungeia chair lift, about 5 mins downhill and the piste will take you to a few queues;
b. walk the recently added piste extension which runs alongside the road, again about 5 mins and you get to ski to the Fungeia; or
c. get a bus. Downhill (the stop on the opposite side of the road to the hotel) to the Costabella and a queue, or the stop on the same side as the hotel get a bus for 5 - 10 mins to Plan de Gralba and the gondola or cable car up for a no queue experience and a lift that will give you a choice to go in any direction in the ski area (I recommend this option).
Enjoy - I certainly did.
