Nice rooms, great breakfast, quiet but convenient location, nice wellness area but above all a lovely familly. They go well beyond what is expected to make you have a great stay. Thanks for the nice attention for my husband's birthday! We'll come back a third time!
Stayed in single room "Pic". Large room, own bathroom, everything looked recently renovated. Own balcony. Pros: Clean room, fresh towels and bed was made every day. Breakfast buffet with plenty of choice including fresh fruit, different kinds of bread and cereal, cappuccino, eggs to order every day included. Walking distance to Dantercepies skilift (or Ciampinoi via ski piste). Nice sauna facilities on week days, till 7:30pm (Finnish and steam bath). Very friendly owner, who gave me a take away breakfast on my departure day (I left early at 4am). Con: Selva can be quite a walk (up and down hill, 15min) after a day of skiing. However, parking in Selva is not really a problem (and free) after 7pm. Blanket was a bit short (I am 1.88m).
Our family had an absolutely fantastic five days at Garni Hotel Iris! The owners, Wally and Siegi, were very helpful in telling us about Selva and Val Gardena. They are wonderful people - very friendly and welcoming. After arriving, Siegi gave my wife a quick spin on his vintage Vespa to give her a quick view of the surrounding area! The Iris is situated right at the opening of the Vallungo outside of Selva, and is a great base for hiking in the area. We used the Iris as a home base to do some hiking up into the Sella group and the Alpe Di Siusi. It is in a very convenient location to get into Selva, or to drive into the other valleys in the area. As Americans, we travel a considerable amount outside of the US, and the most important thing for us is to stay at places that are warm and welcoming. The Iris fit everything we were looking for - great location, very nice owners, beautiful facilities, great breakfast and very nice rooms. We could not have asked for a better hotel for visiting Val Gardena. One more point. Wally and Siegi have always lived in the area, and gave us a lot of history about the Val Gardena and the history of the area. Most importantly, they let me play goalkeeper for their eight year old son, who has quite a good shot with a soccer ball! We will certainly be back - next time in winter as a base for skiing in the Dolomites!…
The studio room with kitchen made a great base camp for a week of summer hiking. The mattress needed flipping because one side was mashed down quite a bit. Streda Dantercepies is a good address and works in GPS navigation systems. The websites sometimes list the address as Via Dantercepies, which doesn't work in GPS. 86 is the correct address although the GPS may not have that number. Bells on passer-by cows in the morning make a pastoral wake-up. Siegfried & Wally are very pleasant hosts.
Warm and family ambiance, all the comforts, situated on the high and wild part of the village of Selva di Val Gardena, 3 minutes walking to the ski lifts. Highly recommended: the best stay from all points of view!
