A 16th-century former monastery sits on the coast overlooking the Bay of Naples. A hotel since 1822, it is a tranquil retreat with beautiful flower gardens that end at the cliff's edge, fine cuisine, a swimming pool and a superb sailing boat which can be chartered. The ambiance is sophisticated yet relaxed and peaceful. Rooms and suites with beautiful walnut furniture, marble chimneys and frescoed ceilings. 15 Minute walk to Sorrento town centre.

It is difficult to understand how this is rated as a five star hotel. The building itself is beautiful but in need of updating. Our first room smelled of stagnant drains but fortunately the staff were happy to find us another room. I’ve never stayed in a five star hotel where the shampoo and gel are in containers fastened to the wall. No body lotion to be found and generally a feeling that the management are cutting corners. The pool area was lovely and staff attentive. The grounds were pretty but again nothing special. The restaurant which is Japanese and Mediterranean was very average. Location fabulous though. Beware that there are two ways to get to the “beach”, either down many, many steps or in a small elevator through rock! This may not deter others but I found it daunting! It was all in all a disappointing stay although through no fault of any staff.

We had a fantastic stay at Grand Hotel Cocumella for our honeymoon! Giuseppe (The Concierge) was incredibly helpful and kind. The hotel was originally a monastery, so you’re stepping into and staying in a piece of history. They’ve done a wonderful job of meeting modern needs but also preserving the history of the building. Our room was serviced daily and everything was in tip top shape. There is a beautiful sun deck on the property with spectacular views - there is also a pool, tennis courts, and gardens to be enjoyed while you’re staying as well. Breakfast was delicious with a large spread of options and the staff were very attentive.

We stayed with the Cocumella Team for our visit to Sorrento and the Almalfi Coast and truly had a memorable stay. The team went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We were welcomed with fresh strawberries from their garden (they grow many things on property including limes, lemons, pumpkins, and more). We desperately needed to do laundry as we had been travelling for 2 weeks before our stay. Our laundry was dropped off within hours of our arrival. The breakfast was incredible!! The food was so fresh and delicious. The setting is gorgeous. You also have the option of room service or dine in for breakfast. Guiseppe, the amazing concierge, helped us with plans to Ravello and with making dinner reservations. He is an absolute treasure and made our stay incredible. His efforts truly took out any stress involved with travelling and offered us an amplified local experience. Thank you for all you do, Guiseppe! The beds and linens were superior quality. The room itself was full of beautiful antiques. It was very quiet. Not a scratch to be found on anything. This resort is very well maintained. The beach is amazing too! Such a cool experience and stunning as well. The bar on site is very special. We had the best drinks there with the awesome bartender. The shuttle service into Sorrento was very much appreciated and saved us much hassle with taxis. We can’t wait to come back and stay again. We travel a lot and this is one of our favourite hotels around the world.

I almost cancel my booking due to their respond on children policy. However my wife cool me down and asked me to stick with the plan to stay at GrandHotel Cocumella as our based visiting Sorento, Positano and Amalfi. And we found out later, our decision was the best decision ever in our trip experience. This hotel was a 16th - century former monastery sits on the coast over looking the Bay of Naples. It has massive beautiful flower gardena that end at the edge of thw cliff. The view of sunsets is the best view ever we had seen in the world. Every day, the blue sky match with the blue sea of Bay of Naples, magnificent Mount Vesuvius and fibrant of Napoli from far. They upgraded me to Junior Suite Sea View when it js available. Thanks. It is stunning! The dining and breakfast also one of the best experience ever. What make this hotel is different is the people. Special mention to Giuseppe at the concierge, wow! He was the one take care the booking and make our life comfortable there. All staffs in the restourants also work to serve you with their passion and heart. Thanks to Mario De Martino, the Manager that keep his eyes to us. Our memorable experience ever.

My Wife and I came here for the last leg of our honeymoon having never travelled to Sorrento before. Before. We even got to the hotel I relied heavily on Giuseppe to essentially set up our entire stay there with things to do and places to stay. The entire concierge staff from Giuseppe, Joseph and Michele could not have been more accommodating. They picked the best restaurants for us to go to dinner, had the shuttle service picking us up at or dropping us off whenever we asked and even gave us a bottle of champagne to celebrate our engagement. Our room was spectacular, a duplex in an old Jesuit monastery and it almost felt like the hotel was a museum it was so beautiful. Last but not least Gennaro the bartended was one of our favorite people we met in all of Italy. Passionate about the drinks he made and overall just the friendliest and funniest person you’ll meet. He also made some of the best cocktails ever. 1000000000/10 would recommend.

Just got back from 6 wonderful nights in Sorrento. My husband and I took our 3 twenty-something kids there to celebrate our youngest kids college graduations! What a special place. The service there cannot be beat - 5 star! Giuseppe and his team are the best - friendly, attentive, funny, amazing with fantastic suggestions on activities and places to eat. They will arrange whatever you need! The hotel is an easy 15 min walk to town and they have a free shuttle to drive you there if your prefer. Beautiful pool with a bar & restaurant and a gorgeous beach. We got 2 duplex rooms next to each other for the 5 of us - plenty of space, comfy beds, great showers, mini- fridge, ironing board and blow dryers. Daily breakfast was great - lots of fresh fruit, omelets, assorted breads & cheeses, meats and the best OJ ever! There is a gorgeous patio to have drinks & snacks and the view is spectacular - AMAZING! If you are planning a trip to Sorrento definitely look to stay here - you won’t regret it! The hotel is gorgeous and the entire staff is perfecto!

Grand Hotel Cocumella has so much going for it that I cannot describe every wonderful detail. The two most outstanding features are the Lovely gardens and the dedicated staff. Shout out to Giuseppe the concierge who knows everyone and everything. I have never met anyone who is so knowledgeable in his position. Joseph at the front desk was extremely accommodating as well. He let us check in as soon as our room was ready. The entire breakfast staff were professional yet friendly. Strolling through the gardens was so relaxing and swimming in the Tyrrhenian Sea with Mount Vesuvius towering over was a real thrill.

The hotel is situated about 1 mile outside of Sorrento itself on the top of a cliff which provides outstanding views of the ocean. It is within easy walking distance of the town centre (about 15-20 minutes). There is a small beach and jetty area accessible either by an elevator (cost 1 euro) or a fascinating footpath through the cliff itself. Until the 1990s it was a [Jesuit] monastery and retains a slightly old fashioned and austere architectural style. The best part of this is that the walls are solid stone and about a metre thick so noise was never a problem - even when consecutive weddings were taking place. If you can never be separated from a wifi connection this can be a slight problem in the rooms, although reception is fine in the ground floor areas. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. We really grew to like the concierge, Giuseppe, who helped us arrange several day trips and taxi rides. The bartender and waiters were also super helpful and friendly. Breakfast is a nice European buffet - with an option to add omelets cooked to order. The dinner menu was slightly limited but every dish was extraordinarily tasty and well prepared. The wines were, of course, excellent. There is a rather nice outside saline swimming pool with adjacent bar. We did not use the spa or gym in the basement but they also seemed to be well equipped. It was overall a lovely place and one that I would return to in a heartbeat given the opportunity.

We stayed for three nights in Sorrento at Cocumella. The best hotel we stayed in a 15 day trip to Italy. Landscape, staff, pool restaurant were all outstanding. Highly recommended. We felt always as the main guest at the Hotel. Wonderful experience!!
