I have nothing but wonderful things to say about grand Hotel Cocumella! My husband and I recently took a trip to the Amalfi Coast to get married in Sorrento before honeymooning in Positano. When planning our elopement, we quickly knew Hotel Cocumella was our dream venue as it had incredible views, an unbeatable location, and beautiful property. The manager, Michele, helped us arrange the details of our elopement ceremony. As planning a ceremony abroad can feel daunting, we had many questions and probably called the hotel too often. However, Michele always responded to our inquiries with patience, and he went out of his way during the hotel's busiest season to coordinate the details of our ceremony. He found us a florist, a violinist, and arranged a private dinner for us. Hotel Cocumella's serene and intimate environment provided the perfect space for our big day! Our stay at Hotel Cocumella succeeded our expectations. The gardens, suites, and every piece of the hotel are absolutely breathtaking. The staff is welcoming, intentional, and kind. We were sad our stay wasn't longer, but we'll definitely visit again soon. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Sorrento!

Hotel's Favorite
We loved it! An absolutely breathtaking property with lovely staff that will treat you like family. Giuseppe is a masterful concierge who takes pride in his work. We had been hoping to utilize their exclusive yacht, The Vera, for a day trip to Capri. It’s available to rent privately or, if enough hotel guests are willing to split it, an individual rate. We had been messaging the hotel well in advance hoping to find a share group as the private rate was more than we wanted to spend. Unfortunately, when we checked in, no other guests had inquired for our dates. Giuseppe said “let me work on this” and sent us off to dinner. Around 8pm (working late!) he calls to let us know he hustled up a big enough group to make it happen. Amazing! And his restaurant recommendations were spot on - he read us perfectly. As for the Vera, what a once in a lifetime experience. The crew is amazing, the lunch spread was incredible, and I mean - cmon' we swam off the coast of Capri on “our own” 1880 sailing yacht for a shockingly reasonable price. The grounds are nothing short of enchanting as you walk through a citrus grove to a breathtaking plaza cliff overlooking the sun deck and Vera below. The pool is stunning. It’s our favorite ever. Lunch surrounded by orange and lemon trees is a must. The food is excellent. Breakfast spread is great. The breakfast and lunch manager is a total pro (I’m sorry I forgot his name!). The late night bar staff are familial and lovely. The room was cozy and unique (remember this is a former monastery and the property remains much of that charm). Shower was good. Location is excellent, a short 10-20 minute walk to Sorrento and the hotel shuttle is also speedy and comfortable and drops you just outside the main square. Given the beauty and sprawling space of the property, I’d prefer this location over one in town.

Unparalleled service, always with a smile and never a problem. Just spent 4 wonderful days with my friends at this gem of a hotel. It is a stunningly beautiful hotel, steeped in history, with a wonderfully Italian authentic feel, and lovely modern touches. Rooms were lovely, restaurants were excellent, and facilities were great. The choices of swimming either in the most beautifully situated pool surrounded by citrus fruit trees or in the bay surrounded by islands of Capri and the Vesuvius volcano. Giuseppe on concierge organised everything without a hitch, the reception staff are all smiles and effortless efficiency, gennaro on the bar was hilarious fun, all the waiters were charming. I’m very much looking forward to returning.

Avoid the Grand Hotel Cocumella at all costs. We booked the Seaview Suite with Terrace and a Junior Suite for my newlywed daughter and son in law. Upon arrival we were treated rudely by the front desk, and when we were shown to the Seaview Suite there was pink mold under the air conditioner over the front door and black mold in the 60's style jacuzzi tub in the master bath, which also had a dirty hard plastic enclosure which was supposed to be closed around your body when showering. When I went to put my clothes in the drawer it was dirty and filthy, along with the stained pillows in the room. The room had an odor best described as dead monks. The chaise lounge chair wheels were peeling as was the wood by the outdoor tub. When the manager came up to my room he agreed things were dirty and the bathroom needed updating, but they had been too busy. The Junior Suite has two miniature twin beds pushed together made up separately, which would maybe fit small children. We decided we did not want to stay, and the manager, Michele, said we would not be charged. He is a liar and we have been charged for the Junior Suite, and they refuse to refund the money. Avoid this hotel, the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria nearby is truly 5 star, was beautiful with great service, and cost us less.

Quite possibly the best hotel experience we’ve ever had. It is perfectly located in Sorrento with beautiful cliff side views, lush gardens (where you can always find something new), private beach access and only a 20 minute walk into the busy part of town. You feel away from it all, but can get into everything if you want to. The staff was inviting and attentive, and made us feel truly welcomed and that they were happy we were there. There are three restaurants and a pool bar, all great options if you never want to leave the property (which is quite a possibility). There’s also a tennis court, basketball hoop, and gym if you want to keep fit. There’s a spa, but we didn’t get a chance to give it a try. We never for a minute felt anything but relaxed and pampered.

La Cocumella in Sorrento is a charming boutique hotel that has a rich history. The hotel's exceptional Concierge gave us a mini tour of the hotel on our first day, explaining that the hotel was once home to Jesuit priests from 1637 until 1777 when it transitioned into a guesthouse, eventually becoming the first hotel in the area. The highlight of the tour was the wedding hall, where there is an ancient water well that now acts as a centrepiece to the room. The hotel has beautifully manicured grounds, great views of Naples Bay and a lovely terrace to view it from.  As well as the great Concierge, the staff were lovely, helpful and seem proud of the establishment. The hotel has three restaurants including its Mediterranean cuisine restaurant, Scintilla and the food served there, as well as breakfast, was very good.  While the Grand Hotel Cocumella has numerous positives, there were a few areas of concern. The rooms, whilst clean and charmingly decorated, felt very cramped for two people, particularly the bathrooms. One of us fell ill on the last night and the minute bathroom definitely exacerbated the discomfort. The view from the room also left much to be desired, it was basically a car park. Upon requesting an iron, we were informed that there wasn’t one, but that they could iron for us, for a disproportionate fee (a dress for example was 10 Euros). This was very annoying and felt quite unusual for a hotel of this caliber.  Service at one of the onsite restaurants did not meet our expectations. In the Coku restaurant, the first Robata restaurant in Italy, they insisted that both of us had to buy a drink in order to be able to sit down. One of us ordered wine, the other, a non drinker was told there were no soft drinks, which can’t have been the case as they have a cocktail menu and soft drinks are used as mixers. We decided not to stay there….This level of inflexibility and unwelcoming behaviour was disappointing and did not align with the standard of service expected in a boutique hotel. In summary, La Cocumella is a quaint and historically significant hotel with an outstanding concierge, staff and a great dining experience at Scintilla. However, guests should be aware of the additional charges for services like ironing and the limited space in the rooms. Also, experience at Coku left much to be desired, with poor service that detracted from an otherwise delightful stay Ideally, I would give it 3.5 stars because its definitely better than 'average', its just not quite 4 stars given size of room and the experience in the Coku restaurant.

We stayed at the Cocumella at the end of a 2 week tour around Italy and were disappointed. Before going into the details, I should say that all the staff were lovely. However, this hotel is rundown and needs some TLC! The lobby reeks of stale cigarette smoke and the corridors by the rooms looked dirty and sweaty - not what you would expect in a 5* hotel! Then, the rooms are small and outdated. We were “upgraded” from a two level suite to a new suite, however compared to other rooms we had stayed in that holiday this felt more like a Premier Inn than a 5* hotel! The beds were comfy, however the rooms felt bare and tired - the floor is cheap laminated wood and the walls plain. Additionally, we had to pay for water in the room, despite paying almost £700 per night - surely water is just a common courtesy in a 5* hotel? The interior of the hotel downstairs is also tired. The breakfast room feels like a 1970s prom, and we felt it didn’t accentuate the best parts about the hotel (e.g. the gardens and views of the coastline!). Additionally, I had a manicure; again, this was extremely underwhelming as the spa / gym area again feels tired. They couldn’t get the aircon to work in the gym - it felt neglected. There really is so much potential here if there was some investment! The hotel also kindly runs a shuttle into the centre of Sorrento everyday, however the shuttle doesn’t run between 1pm -4pm so if you go out for lunch you have to walk back to the hotel for 25mins. This is not what I would expect of a 5* hotel. The gardens, pool, tennis court and restaurants are lovely and really highlight the potential this hotel has. The Asian fusion restaurant by the seafront in particular is lovely and the staff are great. Overall, we were left with a bitter taste in our mouths having paid for a 5* hotel but not having received a 5* experience. If there were to be some investment into the hotel this could be THE place to stay.

I had the chance to end my summer vacation in this amazing hotel and stayed for 2 nights. The check-in experience was very fast, and the staff were very friendly. The hotel's pool and beach are beautiful. I had lunch with my wife at the pool and the food was very tasty and delicious. The breakfast is also very rich with tasty food. The hotel secures a shuttle that took us every day to the downtown. I need to send a big "Thank you" to Mr. Giuseppe Di Pietro the hotel's chef concierge who did his best to make our experience a great one

We stayed in this beautiful family run hotel for four nights. It’s location is perfect, 20 mins walk or 5 mins taxi drive from Sorrento center. They also provide a free shuttle transfer to town. The staff were excellent, with a special mention for Giuseppe who assisted us on booking trips and restaurants etc. The food was superb. Their outdoor restaurant served Japanese cuisine and had a spectacular view over the Bay of Naples and Capri. Rooms were spacious with excellent air conditioning. We had a suite that comfortably accommodated three/four people. Lovely pool and tennis court. Access by elevator to a private beach too. I would highly recommend this hotel 👍🏻
