But first the hotel. This hotel is in the tradition of family-run ski/summer hotels in the Dolomites. It's a beautiful property and it is run by so much care by the Schneck family. The hotel is kept in tip-top shape and is decorated in a traditional mountain style. We were there with a half-board option and very much enjoyed the excellent meals planned by Mrs. Schneck, plenty of options and all top quality.
Our room had a gorgeous view of the Sassolungo, it just couldn't be beat and every day we hiked in the Puez Odle Park. All of the other guests were hikers too. Quiet, ambitious walkers, and great sources of info for new hikes.
They prefer to book for an entire week, but if you are lucky they will have an opening. In Val Gardena I believe the week runs from Saturday to Saturday.
The only difficulty is getting to the hotel if you do not have a car. We took the bus from Bolzano (the 35)0?) and were dropped off in town. It was probably a 1 km walk to the gondola from the bus stop at the circle in Sta. Cristina (there's a Conad there). I suppose we could have called a taxi but we had just arrived and were a bit discombobulated. It appears there is a shuttle but it doesn't operate in the afternoon (?). Maybe ask if you do not have a car.
Even though we loved our hikes, the best part of the day was early morning or in the evening when the lifts closed and we had the mountain to ourselves.
We enjoyed the wellness rooms which opened at 4 pm everyday... indoor pool, outdoor hottub, steam room, sauna and sunroom. So relaxing!
Breakfast was delicious each morning. It consisted of a buffet with fresh baked breads, pastries, make your own pancakes, make your own fresh juices, scrambled eggs, sausages, hard boiled eggs, yogurts, spec, ham, and cheeses.
Dinner was the real treat: 4 delicious courses with choice of entries. Each night was a different theme: Italian, Tyrolean, fish on Fridays. We loved them all.
Staff was attentive and welcoming. We felt like family. Can't wait to get back!
Thank you for a great week,
What we enjoyed most about this hotel was its authenticity and family history as well as all the wonderfully carved woodwork, historically important artwork, and indescribably delicious cuisine crafted by Rita Schenk and her kitchen staff. Lastly, if you’re lucky, you’ll spot the hotel’s most amazingly fluffy cat strolling around the lobby.
We stayed in the alm suite room, which had a warm lodge feeling and a balcony view of the beautiful dolomiti mountains. The bed was very comfortable and we loved the towel warmers in the bathroom. After a long day of skiing, we enjoyed relaxing in the sauna and hot tub in the wellness center. By the way, the hotel’s ski room is super nice with boot warmers and ski racks!
Special thanks to Lea Schenk and her amazing staff who worked tirelessly to ensure our stay was perfect and that our honeymoon was truly magical. We can’t wait to come back again.
Our Notes:
1. Do not be late! The last Gondola is at 4pm. Alternative transportation is incredibly difficult to arrange and will be expensive.
2. We flew into Munich and drove a rental car to the hotel. The 3.5 hr drive was pretty. Be sure to get a vignette sticker from a gas station before crossing the Austrian border. Also, have Euros handy for the tolls.
3. Parking at the Col Raiser Gondola was easy and safe. Parking is complimentary if you meet the minimum hotel stay duration.
4. There is a cute gift shop in the hotel with local crafts. Be sure to visit it.
5. Wiring a cash deposit for the hotel stay is totally normal. You can pay the remaining balance with a credit card w
6. Take a day or two to explore the nearby towns and have lunch. We enjoyed walking through the Christmas markets.
7. The Sellaronda was really neat to do, however, it takes about 5-6hrs for a complete loop. Be sure to plan ahead so you make it back in time for the 4pm Gondola to the hotel.
Starting from the fantastic location in the Seceda area with views of the Sassolungo/Plattkofel, the Sella mountain range and the Odle peaks, to the Welness area, the very delicious food and the hospitality! Nothing is missing.
Breakfast is served buffet style, with all the treats for a perfect start. Dinner is presented as a menu, with different themes. The food is very high quality and very tasty.
The alpine hotel is perfectly located for a super ski day in the Dolomites. In the morning enjoy the empty slopes of the Seceda and then head to the Sella Ronda.
You can also go on beautiful snowshoe tours in the area from the front door.
An unforgettable experience.
We will definitely come back!
