Décor and furnishing in the main areas of the hotel from the early 20th century. I really liked that. The rooms are very comfortable with modern effective air conditioning and a good bed with very well fitted out bathroom. Breakfast is continental as you would expect and I loved the scrambled eggs. Some people have mentioned that if you want a second pot of coffee, there is a charge. They have failed to mentioned that the first pot you get, together with a pot of hot milk holds four cup fulls. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
There is a negative side to this hotel. There is a large bar that was hardly ever open. There are no drink making facilities in the rooms so the only way to get a coffee outside breakfast hours was room service and that cost about 10 euros or the bar at the pool side. Its 7 euros to hire a sun bed next to the pool. The sea water pool is super but be wary of the depth. There's a childrens paddling pool but the main pool is mostly over 2.5 meters deep. 3.5 meters at the deep end, so not for non swimmers. The hotel is by the side of a busy street which is very noisy into the early hours so don't expect a quiet night.

Staying with my Family and 2 teenage boys.
What I can say is ignore the negative reviews and see for yourself.
I was not looking forward to our stay after reading so many negative reviews.
On arrival no early check in,departure is 12pm so totally understand this.
My husband booked directly with the hotel and paid a deposit the rest due on arrival, our room for a family of 4 was amazing best we have ever stayed in.my husband is Italian and we have been going to Italy for the last 10 years.
Great aircon with a music and news channel Engish of course, which I will add is very rare in Italian Hotels.
Our balcony was huge amazing view of beautiful church and sea view to the side, simply stunning.
Breakfast well I did say to my husband lets not bother as the reviews had said it was so bad,I'm pleased to say we made our own minds up,and was pleasantly surprised, this is what made me submit this review,as it's so unfair to this Hotel.
Breakfast great something for everyone, scrambled and boiled eggs, ham cheese ,focaccia,Yes fresh fruit and tinned, cereal, yogurt, croissants,Yes I will say normal coffee awful, cappuccino amazing.
Pool area stunning, okay you have to pay 7 euros for a sunbed, and it's not included in the price but this is clearly stated during the booking process.
Go to the lido get sweaty without the pool and pay a lot more, that's a choice you will have to make.
Finally this Hotel is 150 years old and it is very well kept, rooms are clean yes it could do with a little update, this is something which would not stop me from returning to this Hotel.
Feel sad that this lovely gem of a place has got such bad press.
Today in the pool just listening to people arriving saying how stunning this place is,and my husband nagging me to write this review.
Make your own mind up,you will not be disappointed.

we regret not having met all your expectations. Perhaps you prefer modern hotels with all the up-to-date comforts and ikea-style furniture ... which is not us.

This hotel has so much charm and potential, but sadly fails to deliver on almost all counts. On arrival the initial impressions were good, with a very friendly car parking attendant on hand to help. Unfortunately the young male receptionist was unable to follow suit, and is lacking general customer service skills, with some training probably required. People planning to book should be aware of the charge to use sun loungers by the swimming pool...and it's extortionate at €14 per day for 2. This is not communicated anywhere before booking or on arrival. I can't understand why you would charge your own guests to use sun loungers, not to mention the fact there is only about 30, for 500+ hotel guests. Only after asking, were we told these could be reversed from 10am each day. However, when arriving at 10am, half were already reserved!? Breakfast needs a serious shakeup. The fruit offering is poor and not at all fresh. The coffee tastes revolting, which is an achievement for a hotel based in Italy. The only coffee worth having is an espresso on request, but we soon learnt we were only allowed 1 per morning... bizarre. Overall a serious disappointment. There is a desire to charge guests at every turn, which indicates a hotel business that is struggling. The staff don't appear to be happy, which is also indicative. The location is superb, so the potential is there, however there is a huge amount of work to be done.

we regret not having met all your expectations. The sunbeds and towels in the pool are written everywhere .... We hope to improve in the near future for his next visit to Sanremo.

We have spent 2 nights in this hotel and after the Nice and Monaco all the atmosphere in San Remo is very restful, including in this hotel. Looks like an old palace or castle from the historical movies. Nice rooms with AC and little fridge with 2 bottles of water. No kettle unfortunately, maybe because breakfast is included to price.
There are parking places in the front of hotel and in the backyard. You have to climb uphill because hotel itself and backyard are on the next levels.
The choice of dishes on the breakfast was unexpectedly poor, but you have not to eat so much, especially on the hot summertime.
The sea view from small balconies was fantastic, 5 points.
What was a bad surprise for us, was the hotel pool. It was open for everyone from the outside and people have to pay! OK, swimming for the hotel guests is free, but you have to pay for the sunbed and sunshade. This kind of robbery I met first time in my life.
The good surprises were made by the hotel stuff to our birthdays: a bottle of sparkling wine to me and roses bouquet to my girlfriend. Thank you!
Thank Tiit L.
