We stayed 6 days at the Royal. A historical belle epoque hotel with punctilious service. We stayed in a superior room with a balcony and seaview on the fourth floor. The room was sound proof with a silent airconditioning. Both room and bathroom were spotless clean. Fine dining experiences in Il Giardano restaurant and the casual Corallina. Both have a nice winelist. The breakfast was served on the terrace but the buffet was the low point for me.. rather standard for a 5 star luxury hotel. We enjoyed the pool but choose a spot a bit away from the busy road. The hotel is located on a hill away from the hustle and bustle of Sanremo in high season. Excellent experience and we will come back one day but in a quieter period than august.
Welcome to the Italian almost XIXth century exquisite charm. Going to Royal hotel is like going back in time and it’s refreshing. We spent three days there this summer and were charmed by the service at the pool and the restaurants. The breakfast was the low point of the trip being disturbed by the covid and it was not to my taste but I can be picky about food.
This is the kind of place with huge potential where you kind of shake your head because they just don’t seem to get how off the mark they are. They may have been something special in the past, they may have a fancy chef from Tuscany, they may have some wonky pool design from the 70s, they may say that they have super trained staff – but believe me, this is no more than a dilapidated 3.5 star experience - this is not luxury. Service in general is just very basic and sometimes unwelcoming. The exception is the pool staff and porters - but they work for tips. Most demoralising is the food – the scallops & the bass were overcooked – breakfast is just not that inspired. When you feel that your own modest cooking skills could be more tasteful than the restaurant you know you’re eating something quite basic with no refinement. We ate much better Ligurian cuisine in town. The place is so run down, the pool could use a good sweep and cleaning, the carpet on the stairs is so cheap and poorly laid that everyone is tripping on it. This is probably one of the better hotels in Sanremo - but a low bar considering what you can get in the region for the same price. We will not be returning.…
great hotel! we keep coming back. this was already our fourth time at the hotel and we will certainly go back. stunning location. great pools, also nice kids pool (our 2-year old loved it). nice pool-side lunch restaurant. true holiday feeling!
A bit disappointing Amazing building and location in nice Sanremo But it was not near a five star experience - seems liked they lived of their legacy and not trying hard enough to be the best possible experience in the present I felt a bit like if you visit the old strip in Las Vegas… Examples: service not very engaging, room service often not answering, worn down many places, weeds, gym not open until 13.00, impossible to get an iron to my room (offered an almost 20 eur fee for one shirt instead…), not possible to get a water boiler/coffee maker in the room (again then forced to pay overpriced room service). We had expected more and it was the lowest hotel experience on our Italy round trip
