We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and loved it very much. We had the junior suite and they upgraded us to another one with a balcony. The location is perfect, easy to walk to the downtown area, tons of shopping and eateries. The hotel staff was super nice and very professional. One thing to note, we did not have good WiFi and that was annoying however, the management went out of their way, trying to fix it. It seemed like it was an issue just in this room, I'm sure they will rectify it in the future. Breakfast was amazing, and the pool refreshing as it was pretty hot.

A beautiful hotel with a lot of good soft service but unfortunately not enough, in order to rate it with five points. Location is excellent. Outdoor pool and garden are very lovely. We loved the breakfast buffet and the service of staff. What an experience to sit on the terrace and enjoy the breakfast every morning with that view and that mild climate. After being a Leaders club member for over 14 years and visiting many many leading hotels around the world one thing I have noticed is that a very good breakfast experience is so often hard to offer. At this hotel they nailed it for three days. The fourth day we had breakfast in room and that did NOT meet our expectations. The bread option was not so good and no cheese platter or similar was served. But it was delivered on time and by a very polite man. On the last evening I called room service and for the first time ever something odd happened. The man who answered the phone told me he would call me back. About five minutes later he calls back and takes the order. This was pretty strange and also he did neither apologize for the inconvenience when he answered nor when he called back. We had a Junior suite mountain view and a Superior room with sea view and balcony. Both of them were very lovely. One strange thing…It was the first time there was no paper and pen in the room. One of the rooms had tissues in the bathroom and the other did not. When one of us forgot the slippers by the pool, the room attendant did not replace them with a new pair by the bed (which other Leading hotels normally would do). Do not waste your money and time going to the poolside restaurant. The prices are too high and service not good enough. Several excellent places for lunch or dinner are a short walk from the hotel. The front desk team are very good! The team at the front door helping with the luggage and car park are also very very good! A big plus is that the parking for your car is for free if you choose the side with no roof. The one with roof, 17€/night. Unfortunately did not have the chance to try the SPA, will do that next time :)

Always such a pleasure to return to the Royal, an old-world hotel that knows how to keep up with the times. We have been coming here for many years, and it has never let us down. Some previous reviewers have criticized the breakfast. We have stayed at a number of world class hotels scattered across the globe, and the Royal’s breakfast is outstanding, and certainly ranks among the very best! The beautiful pool area, right out of a grand MGM musical, is built on several levels, making it architecturally and aesthetically special, and at the same time minimizing any sense of crowdedness. Francesco, the pool manager, is your supreme professional. Any grand hotel would be thrilled to have him! As fine as the rooms and the common areas may be, it is the staff that really create a hotel’s personality. The Royal’s personnel is top notch. From the aforementioned Francesco at the pool, to Grace at the gift shop, Ivan at breakfast, and Fabio at the bar, everyone is extremely warm and helpful. A special bravo for Jose at the evening lobby bar who really knows how to make his clients feel appreciated.

Booked directly with the hotel. Fast & Easy. Staff was very kind. Large room, with early ‘900 fashion. We needed a baby-bed and wasn’t an issue. Great service, which includes complimentary water and evening housekeeping. Well positioned. Nice pool and parking.

Just came back from three nights at this grand old hotel which felt like I had walked onto the set of a Sophia Loren film from the 1960/70's. To say this has old world charm is an underestimate and it just blew me away in such an unexpected way, which makes writing this review so hard. First off, I suppose I must issue a warning; if you are expeting modern, state-of-the-art facilities then you really need to book elsewhere. If you are looking for the biggest rooms, the quietest pool area or a young, trendy crowd, then ditto. If however, you want to experience genuine old-school, under-stated elegance, super-attentive service, a hotel with a unique personality and style then you really need to come and stay. As I said, this review is hard to write; we had a room on the 3rd floor overlooking the sea which was small but functional; material-lined walls, wood panelling throughout with a reasonably sized bathroom. The wooden floors in the room creaked when walked on but there was virtually no other sounds from the corridors or below or above. Bed was firm but very comfortable. Breakfast was served in a high-ceilinged and ornate ball-room; white clad waiters with white table-cloths; wonderfully old-fashioned. The pool was free-form, salt water with a diving board...again, they don't make them like that any more and the ice flannels handed out during the day was a lovely touch. Sanremo itself is a lovely town with great restaurants and a laid-back vibe. I would highly recommend hiring a bike and heading off on the old (now covered) railway track...car free and safe, it takes in old tunnels and beautiful views. To summarise, we have stayed in some fantastic hotels around the world, many have been cheaper, had better facilities, better views, food and rooms. But I have never stayed anywhere quite like the Royal and we fell in love with this grand old dame and know we will return in the future to find this time capsule wonderfully unchanged.

Location is excellent...right up the street from the Russian Orthodox church. Hotel is beautiful -- make sure to book a room with a balcony which completely overlooks the ocean (not a partial view). The rooms are very large and the hotel overall is very clean. There is very good air conditioning. The beds are very hard so we asked that they put a soft mattress pad on our very large bed...they did, and it worked. I did miss my down pillows at home, though. It is decorated in the traditional European "old world" style but nothing is worn down. The breakfast buffet is excellent...lots of meats, cheeses, scrambled eggs, fondu, breads, potatoes, bacon, sausages, fresh fruit, etc. Breakfast is served in a very large beautiful room overlooking the ocean/pool. You can sit outside but it fills up fast and sometimes with the largest bees I have ever seen! The seating outside is in a garden and with sun umbrellas. Here is why I didn't give the hotel 5 stars: Everything is 'plus, plus plus'. You have a dress that needs to be ironed? The maid comes and takes your dress to iron it -- "28 Euros for expedited service". The dress was a simple short white cotton dress. You buy a bottle of wine at the Coop grocery store...you pay a tip for someone to come up and open the bottle for you...no bottle opener in the room and no wine glasses. By the way, you can buy the best wines in Italy in the Coop for less than 12 Euros!!! The waitstaff in the dining room rush around to a point where it is noticeable. One young guy slammed right into me, looked at me, no apology, no "excuse me" or "I'm sorry" but what I did get was a loud expletive in Italian as he ran into the kitchen. I cannot write what he said but let's say it started with a "v" and ended with an "o". I have relatives that live in Verona so I understand some Italian and I certainly know the curse words. As a woman to be spoken to like that by some young skinny twerp was a bit startling. I am sure he didn't think I spoke any Italian. I did catch his name tag but have chosen not to relay it here. Another waitstaff member chose to clear a very large table right next to us by piling up dirty plates and silverware onto a side table practically touching our table as we ate breakfast, which was annoying. The remaining staff in the hotel were very nice and helpful. The most amazing part of this hotel besides the views was the pool. It is a SEAWATER pool so not just a "saltwater pool" which we have at home. The pool is very deep and they put rocks in the pool so with the water from the sea which probably is pumped in, cleaned and chlorinated, the depth, and the rocks you felt like you were swimming in the Mediterranean sea! It was delightful! Of note, there is a separate pool for children.

Our second stay at the Royal. This time without mout mask to fully enjoy a wonderful week. This grand dame perfectly pairs belle-epoque elegance and contemporary hospitality. We had a nicely decorated room, spotless clean, offering great sleeping comfort and a terrace with 180 degree seaview. The service is punctilious and oldschool. We enjoyed delicious meals in the Il Giardona and the Corallina restaurant. The buffet breakfast offers an extensive selection of savoury and sweet dishes (small suggestion : a bit more bread options).

We came here for a week and had a room with seaview and balcony. The hotel does not come cheap, but it is well worth the 5stars. The room is as clean as can be and beautiful (and with a magnificent seaview). Breakfast is perfect with lots of choice and all fresh. The gorgonzola is just to die for...so good. The pool is magnificent with lots of space. Service everywhere (bar, reception, breakfast, swimming pool, restaurants, parking valets ...) is just perfect: they know what you want before you know you want or need it. And always with a smile. They make you feel at home. The hotel is well situated, on walking distance from the centre of Sanremo and the shops and restaurants. But the motorway is also easily reachable to explore Liguria and all its beautiful towns. And Sanremo is just a place to fall in love with. Just as this hotel is. Highly recommended!

This is supposed to be a 5 star hotel. I can only say I’ve stayed at many better 3 star hotels. We thought we would treat ourselves after an awful two years. The TV didn’t work. The shower leaked all over the bathroom. The sheets were rough and nasty. The food was very poor given the exorbitant prices The pool area looked antiquated and grey. There were bodies everywhere and the pool was was overcrowded. All in all this was an awful experience and we left having paid for a further two days because it was too depressing to stay there.

This was our second visit although our first one with a dog! We have been to many five star hotels and each one is unique. This hotel also has its own personality. The staff are passionate and simply nice people, every single one of them. By the way, thanks to Grace for helping me shop! Our room had a breathtaking view of the sea. The room was big and the bed was perfect. We were all very comfortable. The pool is fabulous! I would return in a heartbeat just to lay at this pool and view the sea. Food is also on point. We were a bit limited because of having our dog but nonetheless we enjoyed many meals from the menu. One of the most memorable features about this hotel is their friendliness toward dogs, outstanding! I really had the feeling that he was truly welcomed. One barman actually served our dog his own hors d'oeuvres! Also there is a small dog beach across from the hotel. Sanremo is a special place and this hotel as well as the city are meant to be enjoyed. This hotel goes on our favorite list!
