This resort is ideal for families and anyone wishing to have a peaceful holiday of sun, beach, sport and great entertainment. The staff is super friendly and competent; sport, entertainment and support is great. The evening shows are very well prepared and original. The staff speaks english, german and some french, but the evening shows are mostly in italian. The shows are anyway mostly danced and singed. There's a diving center within the resort where you can rent diving equipment, reserve snorkeling trips and even get a PADI certification. This is among the best resorts I've ever visited. Definitely recommended to families with children.
This resort (village) has an acceptable size - not too big. The facilities are complete for a village close to the beach. The beach is fantastic (stone beach). The restaurant organisation for the three meals is amazing. We had the all-in formula, which I recommend. In such villages the evening shows can last up to 23:00. So there is little chance to fall asleep early because of the noise. The bar that is close to the beach had a big choice of beverages , and a nice area with shadow. The sport facilities are absolutely amazing and great choice: beach volleyball, tennis, football , sea sport….. We had a fantastic time and appreciated much the excellent service and that it was not a massive club. We met people who were there for the second time. No wonder.
I've been to a lot of Club Med resorts so had fairly low expectations of Ortano, but I was really surprised that it exceeded Club Med in terms of food and had some pretty good facilities. The staff were excellent, yes they only speak Italian, but guess what, you're in Italy so maybe it's up to you to make a little effort. Where it could improve is in organising the tennis club a bit better, have some better publicised competitions, and try and involve people more in group activities. But that aside, the staff were fantastic, gracious and attentive. Quality of food was high, particularly vegetables. Alcohol wasn't great but I decided to quit drinking anyway. All in all - very good and I would return.
I agree with the previous comments regarding the reception staff. We also had to wait around 2 hours for room to be ready and after this time we received horrible room from the big air conditioning system just outside our window, which was very noisy and it was so uncomfortable. It was impossible to open the window. Food and restaurant staff was very nice, helpful and pleasant! Access to the hotel is almost impossible when you don't have your car.
First the good things: the location is really amazing - beautiful surroundings, clear water (depends on weather), stunning views from the mountains which are next to the hotel (paths leading to the top of the mountains are quite steep), beautiful nature. The food is also quite tasty, although there is not so much to choose from. Animations team is strong and active, different shows every evening and during day time. The room was clean and spacious (we stayed in the 4 star building), but the shower was a bit small and we did not have a balcony (which is not a big problem). Now the bad part: there is a constant party going on in this hotel - really loud music and activities start at about 10:30 AM and continue to about 1 PM, then there is a 'break' and from about 3 PM the party starts again and continues to 7 or 8 PM. I understand that since the hotel is in a quite isolated place the management tries hard to offer hotel guests as much activities as possible, but people, seriously - putting two large speakers faced TOWARDS the beach, MAXING OUT THE VOLUME and forcing guests to listen to different bull**it like contests, radio talks, karaoke etc.? It is impossible to take a nap, read a book or simply take a sunbath because it is ANNOYING! Maybe for Italians this is normal, but I think for other people this is an overkill. And the thing is, that 80% of the guests are families with children, not teenagers or young couples, so I sincerely do not understand this approach. Next, the reception - there are some helpful people working there and there are some lazy and cocky people working there. Need a taxi? Call it yourself. Need to rent a car? call them yourself. Need to reserve a restaurant? Call them yourself. Are you kidding me??? And this is a 4* star hotel??? I have got more help in 2* star hotels than here! You should simply put a sign in the reception "please do not disturb us and use Google for any questions you have" - it will save you time!…
Fantastic location, perfect for families-very nice, competent and accomodating staff in particular Micaela at the reception is a real star! Her English is very good and her management skills impressive -we had a misunderstanding with the booking agency and she resolved the issue very professionally and making sure we were at ease and looked for a solution so that we could start enjoying our holiday right away!! Elba is a wonderful island and Ortano Mare the perfect spot for a relaxing holiday! Definitely worth a high rate recommendation.
We stayed 10 days with our 10 and 8 year old children. We had a great time due to the courtesy of the staff and the activities proposed to the kids. the pool is great, the nearby beach very relaxing, the sourroundings are beautiful. My husband enjoyed being able to dive again thanks to the club located at the hotel. The food was nice, with lots of choice - I was dlighted to be able to at fish every day. I would really recommend this resort for families! We are consideing returning next year.
We enjoyed our stay at the resort as a family (2 adults, 2 boys) and everybody felt comfortable; Nice & clean; Staff ist very friendly & helpful; the pool is nice & big, not suitable for swimmers; the food is good; the buffet always has a wide range of typical italian food and the salad bar is great; the resort is nestled in a bay and a really beautifully place. The beach is clean and impressive with the rocks on both sides;
Napoleon spent 300 days on this island, I only spent 7. But the friendly staff of the Village Club Ortano made me feel like an Emperor on vacation. An intimate and peaceful sanctuary for those seeking refuge from the hustle and bustle of our world. Favorite: All you can eat Tuscan buffet with wide array of fresh seafood. Downside: Limited wifi access, but that's probably why it felt like heaven.
Self-contained cottages for families, good sports facilities including tennis courts, swimming pools, cafe and restaurants, this is a great place for groups of families or friends to vacation together.
