San Giorgio Palace Hotel, the only prestigious 4 star hotel in Ragusa, located in a building dating from the eighteenth century, has frequently hosted important personalities of the time among them the presence of Don Luigi Sturzo. Located in the heart of Ragusa, a few steps from the beautiful Piazza Duomo, stands the majestic Cathedral of St. George one of the highest in the world of sacred baroque, enjoys the best location for those who want to go walking in the center of the city and visit palaces, museums and monuments. The dining room, with a breathtaking view of the valley of Santa Domenica, was built in a former convent of the Franciscan where stand the majestic stone vaults of Ragusa. The atmosphere is that of a charming residence, style marked and familiar atmosphere, all coordinated by a staff attentive, friendly and always helpful. Returned to its original beauty thanks to a painstaking restoration completed in 2010, the San Giorgio Palace Hotel offers rooms and suites of the most luxurious in the city and is a fine example of modern reception for the most demanding tourist. Worth noting is the old garden and the spectacular and unique natural tunnel entrance, 42 meters long, which, with its incredible freshness and eco make the path to the elevator full of wonder. We decided to do a road trip through Sicily and I came across the San Giorgio Palace Hotel. Out of all the hotels We stayed at over the course of our entire trip, this was by far are absolute favorite. In fact, we wish that we would have stayed here for an additional two or three nights. Hotel is perfectly situated if you are coming to Ragusa by car because you can park on the outside of the city and exit the hotel in the main area of the town making it very accessible to the Duomo area. The views from the room were spectacular, the accommodations were very comfortable and the breakfast was fantastic (make sure to ask the staff if you have special dietary requirements like being gluten-free because they likely have additional items stored elsewhere). Should we ever return to Ragusa, we will absolutely stay here again!

Excellent location in Ragusa Ilba – the historic hillside town. We followed the clear directions provided and were able to park right out front on the lowest level. This is a very unusual hotel in that it seems to have been created by combining a number of adjacent ancient buildings each built into the side of the hill including a monastery. The lowest level is on the road overlooking the beautiful valley below. The upper level is near the top of the town only a short walk to the Duomo and main Piazza. Entry to this hotel is unique and you can ask for a porter service but we did not need it. It is not difficult. There is a stone ramp from the road followed by a 40 metre tunnel that takes you to a lift deep inside the hillside and up to reception. It is actually very well done. We went for one of the Deluxe Double Rooms and it was fine: Clean and comfortable, but quite basic. It did have a door out to a small balcony as requested but that was the only window. There are good photos online, so I suggest that you should make a specific request when booking if you want a particular room or type of room. The breakfast was very good with a wide selection including eggs and excellent coffee.

While this is a lovely hotel well located near the main square it was not comfortable to me due to allergies. The sheets and towels are laundered with fragranced products, and we had to air out the room each day we returned after cleaning. I took a benadryl (diphenhydramine) each night to reduce the reaction during sleep. The air freshener is SO strong in the entrances that I had to breath through the filter of multiple layers of a scarf every time I exited the hotel, including the long tunnel on 0 level. Wifi is strong ( when it is working); breakfast buffet ok; Laundry services available; Lovely view of the valley. This is a beautiful baroque city with two Michelin starred restaurants.

Dear 955JanetB955, First of all let us thank you for leave a comment after your experience at San Giorgio Palace. We are delighted to read that you found the room clean and nice, and the service good. We are sorry regarding the inconvenience highlighted, about the fragrance, but apart from clean sheets and towels and from a complete cleaning, we do not use any other fragrance, to avoid that purpose. We trust to welcoming you back. In the meantime I send you best regards. Ersilia

We had a really enjoyable stay at the San Giorgio, the staff where very friend and when out of their way to make us feel welcome, we really rate them and would say that it's one of the best, if not the best welcome we have had in over 6 weeks of European travel.

Interesting hotel built into the side of a cliff. You can enter at the bottom and then take a lift to reception and the old town. Parking is available although a little difficult to manage Our room was nice but on the lowest level requiring a walk to get to. The town was beautiful , breakfast was great, and the service was outstanding. Worth a visit.
