A beautiful, top quality hotel and experience. Excellent accommodation, stunning location, superb service, great food. Everything top notch. Only critique is many of the staff have a very poor knowledge of English, which is unfortunate when 90% of the clientele speak English.

We stayed at Il Pellicano for one week and fell in love with this beautiful hotel. The location is spectacular! A wow hotel with an eye for details. Friendly happy staff and a waitress at breakfast helped me practise italian. This is a perfect hotel for a honeymoon or a romantic trip and I can't wait to visit Il Pellicano... More

Il Pellicano is, since decades, a true beacon of excellence in Maremma both as a hotel and for the quality of its restaurants, Carrubbo and Pelligrill; not the mention the quality of its bar, expertly managed by Federico. By the way, you can taste here one of the best Martini cocktails in Italy. This is one of those supremely refined... More

A most charming hotel where luxury and service live in harmony with the beautiful surrounding nature. Not pompous, elegant and chich. Excellent cocktails, at the bar pool. Tried both the pelligrill and gourmet restaurant. Both excellent with a superb wine list

We visited this wonderful hotel after spending time in Florence doing the tourist scene. What a welcome part of our vacation. The scenery from and around the hotel is hard to put into words. One can a spend hours just looking onto the water and watching the waves and the birds. Definitely a place where one can unwind and relax.... More

The green pines, the darker cypresses , the blue all of the Tyrrhenian Sea : that's Italy. At the very South of Tuscany, bordering Lazio(i.e. Rome), is the island of Monte Argentario and in Porto Ercole , you find the glamorous hotel il Pellicano made of several terra cotta-colored villas on the hills. Everything is elegant, the colors of the... More

The hotel is marvelous only to be outdone by the staff. The hotel is located in a wonderfully scenic spot. The level of service was superb. We will return next year. We opted for the suite and did not regret the added expense. The hotel is one of the best hotels I have stayed in recently. Great attention to detail.... More

We loved this property is was a luxury hotel with a beautiful pool overlooking the sea and a platform right on the water to sun bath. The meals were all wonderful although a bit pricey. We enjoyed a private olive oil tasting in the cellar. I hope to return to this special property

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The elegant five-star hotel, located in Tuscany's Maremma region, was built in the mid-1960s as a love nest for Michael and Patricia Graham and it is today part of The Leading Hotels of the World. The home, called Il Pellicano as a tribute to the first time the couple met at Pelican Point in California, was initially a club for the Grahams' friends, but was subsequently expanded and opened to friends of friends. However, a few things remained the same: the pleasure of feeling at home and the glamorous and slightly retro atmosphere. The hotel's discrete luxury and the still-rugged Tuscan countryside attract the international jet set. Today, the cottages and the central building are suspended between the sky and the sea, with large rooms, windows and terraces where it's unclear where the indoors end and the outdoors begin. There are pathways and stairways, fragrant gardens and discrete corners, a restaurant with one Michelin stars and three Gambero Rosso forks, a heated sea-water swimming pool, a spa with a sea view to soothe both the body and the soul, and for those wanting to take a dip in the Tyrrhenian Sea, a white platform with chaise longue and immaculate parasols. ... more   less
